Comics Official Fans of Reilly Thread

I know quite a few fans who won't let him forget it, that's for sure. I think that if JMS was better with continuity, his stories could be great. I actually think he's an awesome Spidey writer, it's just that he has some bad ideas sometimes.

IMHO, JMS is a great writer... just not a great Spider-Man writer. It seems like he wants to recreate Spider-Man in his own image, but forgets the character has 40 years worth of established backstory and continuity. He's the kind of writer who's great with creator-owned books that he starts and ends, but when it comes to iconic characters who have had many writers he can't be buggered to do one iota of research.

That's pretty much every Marvel writer these days. It's called "creative freedom".

Yeah but JMS is, "creatively taking the p1ss". Look at that whole totem BS he did, Sins past and the fundimentally ******ed error of getting May's maiden name wrong. I mean seriously, does he not know who Ben Reilly was? I hear the name Ben Reilly and I automatically think of Ben and May. Mistakes are forgivable but major and frequent botch ups, is simply unacceptable.....and JJJ's Ulcer, I agree with you, man.

what i don't understand is HOW writers in control of iconic, flagship characters (or any character for that matter) simply don't do the research.

a few hours on wikipedia and a few other sites really go a long way....

Don't hate JMS, pity him, as Mr.T does to fools. But it's the editor's fault... They are the ones to tell the writer, where the continuity slips are...
BEN LIVES ON FOREVER... in our hearts...

Guys, 2 weeks without a post? C'mon!

And although it's not clone related, I'd just like to share in the excitement that a review I wrote was quoted in an official press release! Woot!

Now clone related stuff; where the hell is Armada? This guy keeps gettin' dissed!

they reeeeally need to bring out a ben reily marvel legend...i mean seriously one in his scarlet spider costume then the varient culd be his spider-man costume...i might of said this before not tht i can remeber...but its tru dammit!!

I delved back into some of my old 'Clone Saga' comics yesterday and read a couple of them.

I found that the brotherly interaction between Pete and Ben REALLY added something to both the grand storyline but also the the smaller moments.

There were essentially two stories out of one person and it was intriguing to read. Which makes Ben's death even more tragic. It's as if, when Ben died, part of Peter died too. Something we haven't really got back in recent times.

Deep. I miss Howard Mackie's writing.

On the whole, Mackie's writing was good- it's just the ending [May's resurrection/Gathering of 5 travesty] that brought him down to the depths of hell.

Those are the kinds of incidents that make me wonder if I'll ever forgive Peter David or JMS for The Other. Howard Mackie pretty much did flush his sterling track record down the porcelain pee-hole, but I don't feel as resentful toward him as I do the aforementioned screwups. Maybe those are just the effects of time.

The Other...i must admit....i sort of liked [the premise anyway] the execution however....

There are always screw ups- time SHOULD heal.

But...if it's bad writing, it's bad writing, right?

I'll say this, it's comforting to know that I always have my nice cozy little nook in the Ultimate-verse to go to, no matter what happens in 616. :woot:

I liked the Gathering of five and The Final Chapter, except for the return of May.
I hated the Re-Boot.

When did the new Spidey Handbook come out, and how much is it?

Okay, you guys are gonna love this...

Last night I dreamt I was surfing some political blog I go to (I won't say which in case it goes against any of my fellow Reilly lovers) and there was a very out of place article called 'Spider-Ben'. Curious I read it and it was crazy... it talked about how there were plans to bring back Ben Reilly for real in PAD's book a few months ago, but they were nixed at the very last minute by editorial edict (and instead Pete just used Reilly's ID as a compromise, which did really happen). What's even more insane, is that apparently this editorial reversal was so last minute there were even pages that were penciled, inked, colored and in some cases scripted and lettered (although not all). The article contained a link to these pages so I clicked it and the story I got was that it took place just after Pete went anti-reg, but before Cap died. He's in the underground Avengers bunker and Cap says he has a surprise and turns on a giant TV monitor and there's a blonde man who looks like Peter in a SHIELD-esque outfit. Apparently Ben Reilly had been working as a covert agent for the anti-reg side behind the scenes for months and was sorta like the Winter Soldier except still good... less morally ambigious and not brain-washed at all. Of course Pete was shocked. That was about it for the pages. Ofcourse I'm pissed this was reversed by the editors, but it was still cool to see. Then in the dream it gets really strange. I'm typing about this with a header like "OMFG Reilly was supposed to come back!" or something on these very forums and a gruff man suddenly spills milk all over my laptop and short-circuits it! I look up and it's Norman Osborn! He's holding out a mirror with coke on it and asks me if I want any and I rebuff him and say "Sorry, I'm not a junkie." I then grab a 40 ouncer and start pouring it over Norman's head and telling him this is for my "homies" Ben Reilly and Harry Osborn. And that's when my alarm went off. Like I said the dream sorta made sense until Norman spilled milk on my computer. Then it went surreal. Oh well. Still the coolest dream I've had in ages.

Anyone else have any Reilly dreams?
