Yeah, Andrew, absolutely amazing. That article of yours was half the reason I took such an interest in Spiderman comics over any other.

Hey Rez,

I don't get a chance to come to the site everyday so I'm sorry that I didn't get to your question sooner. Looks like someone beat me to it. Yeah, the Peter that let the virus loose was The Jackal's 'Peter'.

Thanks for the kind words about the column and I'm glad that it propelled your interest in Spidey!

This is actually to reply to someone else's statement in another Ben Reilly thread in here. But I thought I followed Ben's run as Scarlet Spider and "Spider-Man" pretty religiously... Was there ever a time that he got ahold of a "symbiote"? It's been nearly ten years or something, so my memory on this is lacking, anyone got the cover art to this issue?

This mentioning of it in MA or NA dealing with this symbiote problem and Ben Reilly getting mention (by name i don't know, and if so I don't know how) not only peeks my interests but is a good sign that maybe the door is open for him to come back since Marvel is no longer trying to pretend that it didn't happen. Though Spider-Girl is arguably some kind of continuation of the clone saga.

yeah he bonded with carnage to create spider carnage, it was an o.k story, I always liked the conversation he had with pete at th door where his inner monologue is telling him to rip peter to shreds

Web of Carnage. What a great, underrated gem of a story.

I especially loved the tension between Carnage-Ben and Peter in the Mackie-written Spider-Man issue. The symbiote is playing on Ben's subconsious resentment of Peter and his uncertainty that he is the real one "kill him now. Then there won't be any questions... then you will be the real one, no questions asked." Plus the ongoing subplot of Peter trying to get to Seward and Ben lashing out at him about this. Really tense scene with Peter dangling off the building there too, and Ben struggling with whether to save him or shred him to pieces...

I can't believe the same Mackie who wrote this wrote such utter shiite down the road. :oldrazz:

Thanks, the covers are now bringing it all back! I've always said, regardless of whether you loved or hated the intention of the clone saga or Reilly, it was some of the best writing done for character most of the stuff from the 90's was. And I certainly liked how they wrote Ben to be a little bit more hard-nosed than Peter.

What ever became of Carnage anyway?

Yea Carnage is probably still floating around in space somewhere :hyper:

Yea I agree, I also loved JR Jr's artwork in the third issue. He gave Ben a really gritty and dirty look when he was unmasked and struggling with the symbiote. Ben looked like a crackhead :oldrazz:

Hey folks. Just wanted to let you know that I've just updated the Hype of Reilly column (the column that details my progress with turning Life of Reilly into a book, for those of you who didn't know).

It's been a busy couple of weeks and it's a pretty big update.

Hope you enjoy!

would ya mind hookin up a fellow cloner from the states? :O

I meant to add this in my last post but after this latest stunt (BND) to get Spider-Man back to bachelor status. Had they played it right Ben would've probably ended up being that free-wheeling single guy that they were looking to establish. It was a perfect opportunity to move him to another city, introduce some new villains (like their apparently doing in BND) and just run with it from there and so on.

I read some article years back which talked about one of the reasons Marvel decided to off him was that there is no room in the MU for 2 heroes with the exact same powers or style... to me that's a load of crap. We've got or should I say had the original Captain America and US Agent. Iron and War Machine it's up for debate how similar Solo and The Punisher are too?

And the boys over at DC seem to get away just fine with having multiple and or alternate versions of the same character i.e. Green Lantern & Sentinel, Superman and Earth-22's Kingdom Come Superman and don't forget Superboy-Prime who now calls himself "Superman-Prime" or the Supergirl & Power-Girl deal as well as "Flash", "The Flash" and "Kid" Flash thing going on.

I could go on and on, the overlying point is it can work with some good writing and a few open minds. The popularity of Ben Reilly speaks for itself.

Oh man, you are awesome! Your article got me back into the Clone Saga after a very long comic hiatus.

In other news, BND makes me care less and less about comics (unless, Reilly comes back of course). I guess that's how most Spidey fans felt after initially reading the Clone Saga. Irony is a *****.... Hey new smiley!

Wow. Thanks.

Just found out today that I'll be adding editor Eric Fein into the mix, as well. I wasn't expecting it, but it was a nice surprise and a pleasant addition to the mix. I'm having a heck of a lot of fun talking to the various writers and artists, but editorial has a unique perspective and more information so Danny, Bob, Glenn and now Eric will really help to fill in the blanks.

I'm very happy with how things are shaping up and I can't wait to get this into people's hands.

I can't wait to get it into my hands.............................along with a cs tpb (damn lucky french)

They collect AoA and Onslaught in TPB, but why no clone saga? :(

I had no idea you were working on expanding LoR into a book, Andrew, but I'm greatly looking forward to it now. Can't wait to pick it up. Are you aiming for a mass release, or will it be something we'll have to order online?

That's great news to just here, that it's not a complete "NO" on Ben coming back. Over ten years of protest might just payoff somehow, hopefully sooner rather than later. :yay:
