maybe Norman brainwashed him and turned him into Menace! :wow:

joe q avoids the question of a possible ben reilly return in his weekly cup o joe column

JM: Okay. But it’s pretty interesting in that many of the reader questions, we see hope for a crack in the wall to bring back Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider. Now back in the day, this dreaded "Spider-Clone" was pretty much universally reviled. But now, he seems if anything, fondly remembered. Is there an expiration date on things that once seemed a "bad idea"? And did you like New Coke?

JQ: I think the problem with the Clone Saga wasn’t so much the idea, it was that it went on too long. Marvel knew they had a sales juggernaut, and decided to keep it going long past where it was originally planned. Here’s an interesting aside to all of this: Ralph Macchio was speaking to Howard Mackie (one of the writers on the Clone Saga) the other day, and Howard had just come across the original outline for the story which was only meant to be three issues long.
Anyway, the thing to remember is that the Clone Saga sold amazingly well, and was perhaps the best selling Spider-Man story in history. Let me add to that that we get more requests to have it compiled into one large collected edition than any other project in Marvel’s history. Seriously!

Someone should ask Joe Q in the next question thing about getting on that compilation of the Clone Saga. I love my issues, but I'd much prefer a huge ass collection to read through than hundreds of seperate issues to unbox and search through everytime I want to read a specific moment.

Instead of a book (which would be implausibly huge), a DVD, like '40 Years of Amazing Spider-Man' would definitely be possible. Someone should ask him about releasing the Clone-Saga on that sort of format.

Low cost to produce and a 20 or 30 dollar price-tag and that would fly off the shelves. Even those who came after the clone-saga would pick it up out of curiosity.

I'm just surprised that they haven't gotten one out as it's the most requested trade...Marvel is a funny place :D

Isn't there a French version out?
I just wonder, how hard is it to just translate?

Considering that a French version would've been translated from the original English...I'd say that wouldn't be too hard.

im hopining panini comics will put out an english one here in the u.k seeing as they publish the french one....then you can all import!!!

lol... what is Ben eating? And when did Ben and Brock get so chummy? I'd think Brock would have a beef with him after Ben schooled his ass in "Exile Returns." Here it looks like they're watching the game... having a bud...

*sigh*... I miss Ben.

just found the pic, and loved it hard, its brill, I wonder what they were talking about

its from "Planet of the symbiotes". Pete, Ben, and Eddie were resting up at Pete and MJ's place while the city was being invaded.

yeah I have the issue, but i wonder what those two are talking about in that panel, and what are they watching lol

Tv: We'll be back to the Victora Secret fashion show after these messages.

Ben: "Noway man those thing can't be real!"

Eddie: "You two have Spider Sense, I have silicon sense. Im telling you they're real!"

In my wildest dreams as a writer if I ever got a hold of SPider-Man. I would love to write a story where it is a flashback to a event that Ben was involved in that had reprocussions in the present. And in the story it was by his actions that Peter figures out how to stop the plot from taking place in modern times. A final goodbye deserving of Ben.

They've kind-of done it already. Ben faced this guy who could age and degenerate people to death and then later Pete faced him. It was in sensational spider-man (the 1996+ era series, not the newer one), issue 30 or thereabouts -- i think, im really not sure. Ok he didn't learn too much from Ben's actions but there were lots of talk about them and flashing back to Ben's death. I really liked that run after Ben died but before Byrne's run and Osborn got into magic. We had a married peter teaming up with X-Man and Elektra and fighting ninjas and kicking ass and being a really cool spidey. Unfortunately they wanted to bring May back and kill off MJ and really screw things up... *sigh*

That was SORT of done a long time ago. Around six months after Ben died, Todd Dezago did a "Sensational Spider-Man" story where Spidey faced DK again. DK was a guy that only Ben had faced before, so Peter didn't know what to do. However, DK was mourning over the loss of his brother and Peter was still mourning his brother too, so they bonded over that and DK calmed down and returned to his cell. It was a good tribute to Ben (and even had a few new flashback panels of Ben too).

It's too bad nobody even acknowledges him anymore. Dezago was probably the best about giving Ben post-mortum respect.

WHich issue is that? If it has any Ben flashbacks it becomes part of the collection.

Nevermind found it. It was issue 17, and it was like a bonus story.

Sorry for the double post but i have a judgement call question for you Fans of Reilly.

Alright, so I am collection EVERY appearance of Ben. EVERYTHING, and I have recently found there are some very random issues I missed initially. On this list of ones I am potentially missing is Venom: Hunted #1. Now I have looked through a scan of the comic and the appearance is one panal, just his head... and it is describing all of the humans that have been possessed by sybiotes. The head looks like Scarlet Spider, but it must be Spider-Man without the web lines drawn or sybiote spidey. Does anyone else have access to this issue to give me some feedback? Is itt really Ben and I just read the reference wrong?

I also need some clarification on a few listings on the first page:

Giant-Size Spider-Man #5 - Just a Gwen Stacy story with the Jackal?

Green Goblin #s 1, 3 & 13 - Correct me if I'm wrong but Ben does not appear in Issue 1 does he?

Marvel Milestone Edition: Amazing Spider-Man #s 129, 149, 150 (reprints) - Where does he appear in issue 129? Or is this only essential to Norman Osborn?

Marvel Tales #s 9, 24, 29, 38, 98 & 99, 106, 113, 121& 122, 126-128, 192, 209 (reprints) - What are these reprints of? How do they include Ben?

Spider-Man vol. 2 #s 27 & 28 - To what degree does Ben appear in these issues?

Spider-Man: Dead Man’s Hand #1 - I've read through this and Ben doesn't make an appearance, or have I missed something?

Thunderbolts Annual ‘97 - Again, where does Ben appear in this issue?
