Not a bad issue, although it raises a lot of continuity questions fer those of us who've read all the Ben comics till now. Also, the X-Men were off as Storm an' Wolverine had the wrong appearances.

Geez, some people are never satisfied. :whatever: And I'm jealous. How come you get your copy now? I looked at the preview and it looked awesome. If the issue's not good enough for you, give it to me! I'll gladly take it off your hands! :oldrazz:

woooooo!!! I just got the misprint!!

went into my (l)cs today (havnt been there for 5 months or so cos of uni) and asked him meekly about it he said he was gonna send them back tomorrow but tht i could have one as he knows how much I like ben reilly (i always go on bout him but didnt think i went there enough for the guy to actually remmeber me) just reading it now I AM SO HAPPY

still gonna buy a couple of the actual issues later this week to boost sales numbers

wasn't wolverine all feral when he was aroudn the x-men at that time

and wasn't storm off chasing cable around?

does this take place before onslaught because i remember ben's first meeting with the x-men when he goes to drop something off at the mansion.

wolvie has bone claws but isnt feral yet which would suggest its before onslaught?

its a decent story, not sure why bens mind wuld be harder than wolvies for sinister to mess with

just glad to have a new ben story, and im looking forward to issue 4 of this to see what it is sinister is making, my geuss is a mimic like clone which combines the powers of the original x-men and maybe spidey too (altho prob not spidey) or a spidey clone mixed with a symbiote....not sure, but i sure as hell wanna find out!

it does suggest that it is before onslaught though because pete has moved out of ny and is back in town for onslaught.

maybe they are trying to put it right at the beginning of scarlet's career as spiderman.

it does mess up continuity as mentioned before as ben does meet up with the x-men later on.

apart from this and storm's costume and wolverine's feral state, i can live with it.

Does Ben read like ben though, does he have his grittier sense of sarcasm with his overamped down trodden lifestyle?

oooh I dunno I havnt read the real spider-man (ben :P) stories for a while now.....

he knows who carnage is so it would suggets it is after spidercarnage, and I dont think it says pete is out of town he just says pete lost his powers....

I might email gage again to say thanks once more

I sent him another email....maybe piled on the praise and gratitude a little thick lol.....also mentioned that I hoped he would be able to use the character again.....more people email him thanking him after reading the issue if he gets enough positive feedback from people he might feel inclined to try and include benny boy again somewhere down the line

Pete lost his powers in Portland, so it's after The Final Adventure. And it messes up Ben's first meetin' with the X-Men 'cause they did all that introductory stuff then. So I guess it's before Onslaught. Guess we'll hafta wait fer the Marvel Chronology Project ta catch up and find out where they place it.

Just because he knows Carnage doesnt mean it takes place after Spider-Carnage, I could be anywhere from after he became Spider-Man (again)
Remember, both Ben and Pete fought Carnage when Traveller freed him in RavenCroft.
Also i'd think Ben would be more reluctant to go see Carnage after the Spider-Carnage fisaco.

I've only read the 6 page preview (damn all you lucky bastards for getting the early error copy), but let's look at the facts...

Blizzard.... Snowy weather means it's starting around the time the 'Media Blizzard' story would have happened.

Ben mentions Pete lost his powers.... so it's after MJ visited him in NY during 'Final Adventure' and saw his new look.

Cletus Kassidy becomes cancer stricken and gaunt (no, not the villain) during 'Web of Carnage'. Here he's still fine. And Ben would have mentioned the symbiote taking him over and the symbiote would have been attracted to him if it occurred after (as symbiotes are attracted to stronger former hosts... look at the Venom symbiote and Pete).

Ben's first encounter with X-Men so waaaay before the Onslaught debacle occurred.

Ask me it takes place snugly between 'Media Blizzard' and 'Mark of Kaine'.

I think you mean Return of Kaine, Mark was when Ben was Scarlet, and Spider-Cide was still running around as amnesiac Pete.

the nice man emailed me back again "Glad you liked it. No current plans for more Ben Reilly stories, but you never know, especially if this one is well received. Thanks for your kind words and support!

Best,

CNG"

I just called my LCS (which is a half hour drive away... ugh) for them to hold on to a copy of X-Men/Spider-Man #3 and the new ASM. But the new ASM was sold out. That's okay, cuz the X-Men/Spidey issue is the real prize this week.

The conversation on the phone went like this...

Comic-guy: The new Amazing Spider-Man is sold out, sorry.

Me: That's okay. I can see Obama anytime I turn on the TV. But Ben Reilly... I haven't seen him in 12 years!

Comic-guy clearly not sharing my enthusiasm: Uh... yeah... the Spider-clone. Sure, it'll be here.

Hehehe

I'm going to the comic store.... I'm going to the comic store.... Happy day!

I got 3 copies. I had the Obama issue in my bag, the regular cover, but after readin' dialogue on it I decided to pass.

Maybe the issue will get an Obama bounce from all the new people coming into the store. Maybe they'll buy other Spidey books. One can hope.

dunno if Ill actually be able to get to a comic shop before i go back to manchester now :( dunno how else i can buy extra copies

**** you and you're extra copies. I would make do with one? I ordered this two weeks ago but the shop didn't get enough, have to wait another week.

unlucky man, i want extra copies so that it sells out and hopefully sends a message to marvel

Man, not a lot of discussion about this issue here. And next to zero on comicboards. I guess it was overshadowed by the Obama hoopla. But I thought it'd make a bigger splash here.

Okay, spoilers ahead... And no fancy spoiler tags, so if you don't wanna read it, scroll....

Anyway, I thought it was great, even if it took all of ten minutes to read. I loved when Sinister looked into Ben's mind and slapped him away calling him a "mockery of life." Reminds me of the dismissive way Norman treated Ben in the last part of 'Revelations.' Carnage was a bit off (I think Gage confused him a bit with Venom, with that whole eating Wolvie's claws bit), but I didn't care. Sinister confronting him while entering his cell and immediately taking him under control reminded me of how Traveller did the same. I was sad there was no John Jameson or Ashley Kafka cameos, but still good to see Ravencroft for the first time in a decade or so. Gage didn't get everything right, but enough so it rang true. Poor Ben. He didn't want to believe he was the clone again. Oh, and this story takes place after Ben confronts Lady Ock and Seward wakes up from his coma, because he mentions to the X-Men that Peter lost his powers and he didn't find that out until the Spec issue when Pete and MJ came back to New York. So, maybe it occurs between that issue and 'Web of Carnage.' Now hopefully we don't have to wait 12 more years for another Ben story. I'd give it a 9 out of 10.
