And you really think that most of the comic fans who read Spider-Girl for years upon years are so ignorant and stupid to not be able to know the difference?

I own like 120 to 130 issues of Spider-Girl. Trust me there is going to be a big difference between Mayday and Arana.

Nobody is telling you to buy the Arana series. I'm not going to buy it either because, honestly, I'm not interested and have never been interested in Arana. It's only a slap in the face if you let it be a slap in the face. The MC2 Universe dies if you LET IT die. Apparently there weren't enough readers or letters to save the book from another cancellation. Spider-Girl ran a VERY long course and told a lot of really fun stories. It's the longest running female character series Marvel has ever had.

I will agree that Arana's book will probably only last a a year, maybe two, and then be cancelled. And who is to say that Mayday won't come back in some capacity down the line again? Maybe someone else besides Tom Defalco will pick it up in the future. No character is dead unless the fans let them stay dead.

Take this thread for instance. Fans of Ben Reilly. The guy died in Peter Parker Spider-Man # 75 and, honestly, when I read that I thought I was never going to see or hear this character referenced in a Spider-Man comic ever again. Guess what? Kind of got proven wrong on that one because there are writers and creators coming up that were long time fans of the character themselves.

I'm a huge fan of Mayday and the MC2 universe. I would LOVE to see the character continue on forever but if the sales are not there, well, what can you do? And, no offense, it's not like Mayday has a copyright on the Spider-Girl name. Marvel does. Seriously, you are taking it a little too hard and I know you're not the only one. Dead is never dead...unless you let it be...so don't let it be.

All I'm saying is why name the series Spider-Girl instead of simply 'Arana' or any one of a hundred other names? And why launch it almost exactly as soon as DeFalco's Spider-Girl ends? It does seem like rubbing salt in the wound a bit. I'm not so much lamenting the end of Mayday Parker due to dismal sales. Anyone can understand that and that's purely business. What I don't understand is this.

There's two lines of thought here...

1) We just saw Arãna become "Spider-Girl" at the end of Grim Hunt, so strike while the iron is hot, which is what Marvel is doing...

2) Give it a 6 month break between two different characters with the same name to avoid making "new readers" think that it might not be the same person whose comic they haven't been reading all these years...

Obviously, Marvel feels the former is the way to go...

Been re-reading the clone saga. Sure some of it is just silly, but I love Ben. His character is awesome. BRING BACK BEN!

I agree! Been reading the Clone Saga Epic trades. Shoehorning Ben as the new Spider-Man aside, they made a great character.

how much impact MJ's "I never want kids" has on Ben Reilly. Baby May was an importand part at the end of the Clone Saga, if MJ was not pregnant Peter never would have left Ben alone with Gaunt in "Revelations". And that is one of the smallest possible impacts I can think of. There are so many other things that would change the outcome of the clone saga drastically.

I donno. She planned on not getting pregnant. Lots of people plan not to get pregnant but still do later.
Revelations could still have happened.

Yeah, but you still haven't answered our question. In what context did he appear? Are you talking about that spread with Spider-Man standing over a bunch of defeated Spider-people, like Ezekiel, Venom, Kaine and someone in what looks like a Spider-Ben suit or are you talking about something else? I'm a Reilly fanatic. I need clarification.
