Why is it so hard to believe that a CBM that flops would get a sequel, or at least a reboot within a couple of years or so....?
Anyone ever heard of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer? No? How about Punisher: War Zone? Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance? Daredevil 2?
GL was a flop simply because it had a huge budget which it cannot hope now to recoup. In terms of actual b.o., the modest numbers fall roughly in the same range as the movies listed above --- and all of them got/ are getting sequels or reboots.
Hell, if you go outside the genre, there's *tons* of movies that didn't make enough money to even pay for a bucket of popcorn, and yet they earned sequels or even whole franchises (see: pretty much any horror movie ever made).

Also, regarding the whole sequel on Earth vs. sequel in space/Oa argument:
WB learned pretty quickly that GL's space opera budget was *hugely* bloated and overblown, due to all the Oa scenery. If/when they make a sequel, it's pretty much a given that WB will slash the budget down to a manageable level this go round....meaning that location shooting on good ol' Earth is a helluva lot cheaper than a CGI Oa.
And in all fairness, the bulk of GL stories *do* take place on Earth. GL Corps series spinoffs notwithstanding, Hal and John and Guy and Kyle have spent most of their adventures here on terra firma. All things considered, Hal Jordan is a superhero, not an astronaut. That means his place is right here on his home planet.
