Ryan us trying to be the leading man and only has found success in comedies and rom coms. I dint think he is meant to to be a big 'star' because it's been a decade.
There are actors that are famous without becoming "superstars", really it all depends on audiences that warm up to an actor/actress and find him/her likable.

Reynolds has been acting for years now and a bomb like GL won't necessarily affect his career which is something most struggling actors can't say, Brandon Routh for example hasn't had that same luck, while he's in many movies in supporting roles it'll be a while for him to get the lead in a movie.

2012 sees TDKR, the Amazing Spiderman, Man of Steel, and the Avengers. All four are established franchises...all contain the TOP TIER superheroes or in the Avenger's case all the B-list heroes in ONE FILM. 2012 will kick 2011's superhero movies in the a$$... I knew 2011 would be boring. 2012 will rock.

I just worry Snyder will screw up Superman; I worry the Amazing Spiderman will be too much of a rehash of the first Raimi Spiderman. I feel like it's going to be the same exact movie except his girlfriend will be called Gwen instead of Mary-Jane and one green villain (Goblin) will be exchanged for another green villain (Lizard)...

Yeah....history will record that 2011 was the year of risk-taking for CBMs as Marvel and DC tried to start up new franchises and introduce (mostly) new characters for established franchises (like X-Men), while 2012 will be the year of the rock-solid dependable names (Spidey, Supes, Bats, and revisiting Marvel's elite in The Avengers).

That being said, there's still a lot of risk involved in the 2012 films, not least of which is whether or not mainstream audiences will just get tired of the superhero genre as a whole and just walk away.

I love RR and wished him success with this film but I think that RR the action star is over. He shouldn't be blamed for GL bombing but I think that he will be. GL was a test and he failed it.

It hurts me to write those words but I think that they are true. He'll still get movie roles in indies and comedies but I don't think that he'll ever be the mega star that hollywood thought he would.

Is it really over for him to be a big star? I mean most of the action/big-budget movies he's been in have been terrible (Blade 3, Origins) and he's the best thing about them. Also its not like he was what made GL bad. I still think he can do it, but it has to be a good movie to begin with.

You're speaking as if things are fair in hollywood and in life. RR has been hyped up for years and has yet to have a big hit to his name that he is mostly credited for. I know RR is talented and deserves another chance but I don't see him getting it nor do I see him becoming a bar star. He just hasn't lived up to the hype. Period.

He's had low budget movies that have done decently and he has done well as a co-star and he will continue to get work for that very reason but GL was he coming out party it failed, which means he failed, which means bye-bye huge movie star status.

I'm tired of pretending it's going to happen. It's not going to and I accept that and I still like him regardless. I'm not being bias either, I think that Captain America is Chris Evans final shot of getting big roles like it and getting to do better smaller movies. I really like him and I'm rooting for him but if it fails I will be saying the same thing.

Chris Evans will nail Steve Rogers. Book it.

I love him and think that he will nail the role too but the movie must also be halfway decent.

He should call up George Clooney for advice.

Yeah, after Batman and Robin George Clooney's career is over. He'll be forced to get back to E.R.

Yeah, right. After he was nominated for several Oscars (winning one) afterwards, I think his career is hardly over. Next year he might be playing Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Woooooooooosssshhhhh......

What's with all the talk of Reynolds' career?

Clooney is an actor who can basically do whatever he wants, as he's known and loved worldwide in spite of Batman & Robin.
It's too early to declare Ryan's career as a leading man over. And Green Lantern is not yet the bomb someone is claiming it to be. It will make more money than Watchmen and that movie didn't end Snyder's career either.

Clooney can do everything? any proof?

thanks

His filmography as producer and director is a good enough proof, IMHO. And he can even rejects roles like the Lone Ranger in a Bruckheimer movie.

in the last 10 years was he in a 200 million movie?

Are people really arguing how big a star Clooney is

and for the record all the Ocean's films made over 200 mill

The three Ocean's movies. And whether or not his movies make 200 million dollars doesn't have anything to do with him being able to do whatever he wants. Especially when what you want to do doesn't cost 200 million dollars.

True, and I have to wonder how much Oh Brother and Perfect Storm made? What about Michael Clayton and Up in the Air? I don't care enough to look it up. I'm not a Clooney fan BTW and I think he is one of the rare stars that doesn't have to constantly work or be in a string of successful films to still be popular.

I don't think Reynolds is close to being at that level. However, I also don't think Green Lantern will sink his career. In part it will rest on who gets the blame for the debacle and I don't think it will be Reynolds. Another thing is Reynolds's bread and butter is romantic comedies/comedies so headlining an action film considered a flop probably isn't going to slow him down. He's also shown range in the horror and I guess thriller/drama genre with Amityville Horror and Buried.

If Deadpool does get made and does well, I think that will largely absolve Reynolds of any residual taint from Green Lantern.

Seriously. The man has it made. So what if he hasn't been in a billion dollar grossing movie. Is that what you have to do to be a star? Is that really how absurdly, unrealistically high your standard for being a star is?

You can't be a bigger star than George Clooney. FACT/thread

Johnny Depp would like a word with you.

Will Smith wants a word with both of you.

Routh probably won't ever get a lead role in a movie because, from what I've heard, when he isn't playing Superman he's pretty wooden.

Yeah Clooney is a star. As others have pointed out there are those bigger than him but still Clooney is a hugestar
