The problem with Ryan basing his Hal on Han Solo is that some people are just born with that rugged swagger. The young Harrison Ford was born with that smooth 'Ive seen it all' attitude and it's not easy to replicate that.

Quote from Inside the Ryan Reynolds backlash article posted by Blackman

"Overall, Ryan Reynolds' most recent movie, Green Lantern raked in about Dh200 million at the international box office. Pretty decent amount, you might be thinking?"

As of Jul. 27, 2011
Domestic: $114,086,252
Foreign: $33,300,000
Worldwide: $147,386,252

They wish it would get up to 200 million worldwide.

My problem with Reynolds is he seems like Reynolds in every movie. That I've seen anyway. He doesn't 'disappear', he has the same expressions, speaks the same, etc. If Hal had actually seemed like Han Solo, as Reynolds compared Hal to him in every interview, I would've liked him more.

Sinestro is the one that that really stood out to me... I'd see a sequel just for more Mark Strong.

Not all actors need to disappear to be effective. Look at someone like Liam Neeson. You can always tell it's Liam Neeson. He rarely changes his voice etc. Still a legend.

Not saying Reynolds is on Neeson's level though.

And in The Nines he played three different characters really well. A hot shot hollywood star, a gay screen writer and a family man video game programmer. I'd say that is his best acting performance to date. People need to check it out.

Looked it up, sounds interesting. I should hunt it down.

"Indeed, despite the weak box-office performance of "Lantern" in the U.S. and in a limited overseas launch, Warner Bros. has not scrapped the idea of a sequel. With an outline already in hand, studio executives are mulling over what changes would be needed to make a follow-up work. Robinov said he would like to see it be "a little darker and edgier with more emphasis on action."

I wonder how legit this is. And what changes indeed would they be looking over. Hopefully the right ones.

oh no...they're applying the TDK filter...to something that really doesn't need it...

I knew someone would say this. You're aware that every superhero movie isn't either Fantastic Four or The Dark Knight, right? They said "A little darker" which, if applied to Green Lantern still isn't nearly as dark as Dark Knight.

I wouldn't mind a little darker, but coming from WB, I tend to think that his statement was an euphemism. And of course I wouldn't want "fantastic four" campiness either. What I was trying to say is that Green Lantern has such a rich universe, such a great mythology and identity that if a first statement was to be made regarding improving Green Lantern, I would have felt better with something like "let's make it more space epic" and not "a little darker". But yeah my point wasn't clear I'm sorry.

Yay. Should be interesting to see what they plan to do with the GL franchise. I'm hoping it's more of a Hal & Sinestro story with them on a mission in space, but who knows. Some people are saying a requel would be the best bet. Hope to see GL on the big screen again though. :D

There won't be a sequel. This is typical studio babel trying to cover up their tracks of making a terrible movie.

This thing hasn't even made a profit. This is the definition of a complete bomb.

I do think the character should get another chance but not following this movie thats much is certain.

Totally agree with #1... but I loved Godzilla :cmad:

I was only like 11 at the time though... every actor in it annoys the hell outta me now lol

Guys, that Robinov comment is about trying to maintain hype for the film as it still hasn't been released in every market yet. Don't get your hopes up, it's studio spin.

So what, Hal becomes even more of a conflicted *****e?

if they want the sequel to be a little darker and more action, than go full on sinestro corps war. 2 armies with power rings fighting each other will be enough action for anyone.
