Sounds to me like that's how much it costs to add another scene and compress the schedule to make the release date. It won't matter if the added scene brings an extra $9 million in box office, though. Maybe they are going to add a CGI sex scene or something?

Like they mentioned, it's a combination of 3D conversion, hiring out to other VFX houses, and overtime/wknd pay...to make that release date. Basically, the effects of being swamped as zero hour approaches...happens on a lot of films when extra time is given/taken on stages other than post.

Variety said:
There are several explanations for why the studios persist in an approach that regularly leads to cost overruns and inspires dire warnings from their f/x vendors.

"Movies this year, like the movies last year, are more spectacular, the vfx are more ambitious than ever before," de Faria said. "The stresses that it places on production management are very real. I feel them every day, but our job is to develop new tools and new systems for dealing with that."

He said post skeds that used to be 21-26 weeks are now 36-40 weeks to accommodate visual effects, but in order to keep that responsiveness, they can't get longer.

Alonso said Marvel tries to do its movies in a 32-36 week post. The short post schedules, he said, are dictated by release dates announced before there's even a shooting script. "So you are always chasing your tail. You work backwards from that release date, then you add production not being ready to shoot or location complications and you shave the weeks you push from post."

:hal: That is awesome banner. I hope we get a high resolution of this.

Would this help? by actually posting the image on the forum?

I like that so many GL Corp members are in one poster and it looks good, but there is something not correct about the respective proportions, here Tomar Re should be taller than Hal. Boodika is looking too small, weird proportions.

Looks like someone took all individual photos and made a poster using Photoshop.

Movie studios do that all the time with making banners, posters, ect.

That is definitely an awesome banner, wasn't expecting one with that many corps members on it. I do wish Salaak was on there, though.

AWESOME !!
:awesome:

This poster is beyond awesome! The characters look great together!

Really, i dont know how someone can think this is going to flop. It would be a shame and audience would loose an awesome and rich franchise for movies!

Go GL! Show the trolls and disbelievers your power!

underwhelmed by the banner. not only the proportions but Sinstros face looks like a ****ing barbiedoll!

Showtime and Filmnerjamie. do you remember how much money was spend on the extra money shots in SUperman Returns? i remember some news that Singer got more money for some extra action money shots.

I remember an extra 2.5 million was spent on the bullet to the eye sequence and some other shots. Is that what you're talking about?

Ha ! I thought that Stel looked like Darth Vader !

I gotta say...a while back when this movie was given the go...I was skeptical...thought it was going to be goofy because I kinda' find GL a bit silly.

But from what we've seen so far, it looks like they're really taking this seriously (in a good way) and swinging for the fences with it. The fact that they're working the VFX to the bone to get this stuff right, and went to such lengths to get those corps characters so detailed....from a comic-fan's perspective, I can't see anything not to get excited about. I think the more they play up those alien corps members and that whole world, the more attractive it'll be to wide audiences, because it has a real "don't **** with us" vibe about it.

Obviously we have yet to see what the whole movie will really be like. But you can't help but appreciate the effort and attention that we've been seeing just from the character and alien world designs. I'm actually hoping this movie does really well, if for nothing else but the sake of the people who worked on it. And from a comic perspective (albeit an outsider like myself), it looks to be one of the most 'faithful' translations, outside of Watchmen.
