Blake Lively or the lead villain's silly look won't ruin the film for me though. As long as everything else is good.

I don't think Hammond looks silly as much as he looks gross. I hope his appearance doesn't turn off the audience.

Hammond looks great. True to the comics.

^He's disgusting there, too.

Well, he's not exactly supposed to be the man of every woman's desires.

Yes, I certainly do. According to reports, Lively beat out actors such as Kerri Russel and Jennifer Garner among others for the role and both the studio and film makers were impressed with her audition. They were also impressed with her work in "The Town" (the Ben Afleck picture). Apparently Lively has the ability to realistically play a role like an older drug addicted mother in "The Town" as well as a the charming, emotional and sexual young Pippa Lee (in the movie of the same name). Recently, Lively was named "Breakthrough Performer of the Year" by the folks at CinemaCon and has only received compliments from the directors she has worked with. I believe that your negative comments are baseless and unless you can come up with some real proof that she can't act you really need to stop making these comments 'cause they are just full of it.

Too many people are biased against Lively because she looks very young and is best known for her role on Gossip Girl. IMO, she was great in The Town and will surprise some people when they see this.

There's nothing wrong with a comic villain being repulsive. In many repsects a repulsive villain can be more effective than a "cool" villain.

I'm a bit concerned people will think he looks goofy. Obviously we all know he looks true to the comics, but the average person hasn't heard of Hector Hammond. That said, Peter Skaarsgard (sp?) is a good actor who can hopefully bring a performance that gets people to buy in.

People have been complaining about Lively since day one, and the really sad part is most wouldn't know a good acting performance if it bit them on the ass. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the GL trailer was the first time most of them had seen her.

This!! And at least Hammond's eyes don't look like they are saggy as well because of the 'condition' of his skin on his face. I think that would make him look pretty stupid in the movie.

Thing about it is that she can play a very mature character in spite of here true age. The character she played in the town was a 37-year-old mother in "The Town", while previously she played a teenager who winds up having to grow up early and marry a man 30 years older than she in "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee". Now she has to play an older character again in Carol Ferris. I think it was her broad range in acting characters of different ages that caught their eye had helped her land the part.

i think they should promote this in the new trailer. that he looks true to the comics. because this is whats important right? not that he looks good on screen but that he looks true to the comics.
the general public will think he looks goofy because they dont know that this is how he loosk in the comics. should they have it on the poser? that this is how Hammond looks in the comics?

sarcasm out

I agree with Rachel, Hammond is disgusting but not in a cool way. I just cant look at him and go "hey, the villain is cool, he's making me wanna watch the movie".
Ras, Scarecrow, Joker, Megatron, Doc Octupus, etc were cool.

Fortunately we also have Parallax which will make up for Hammond.

As far as Hammond just being so ugly to look at it will turn off viewers, I don’t think making him supposedly look "cool" or “badass” (i.e. a more cliché easily recognizable villain) would work, he’s primarily a victim and that is what he looks like a victim.

Rather than the supposed main visual villain people are trying to project onto to him, Hammond’s inevitable “appeal” will be in the psychological drama rather than a visual one, more specifically the parallels to Jordan’s own life and the struggles with fear and the will to overcome it. Where one human fails, the other triumphs etc.
That is where he’ll become interesting and “human”.
And the trailers aren’t going to capture or develop all that, not in these quick snippets.
Trailers have plenty of shots of - Parallax tearing after Abin Sur, rampaging through the city devouring people, leaching off the characters energy, hovering over the Earth and expanding through the cosmos towards Oa etc.

That’s where the visual money shots are as far as one “villain”.

And the trailers have plenty of that.
They are two different types of “characters”.

Another element people are ignoring is Sinestro, yeah we know what’s coming for Sinestro because we “know” the comic, but don’t assume people who don’t read the comics aren’t also looking at this same guy and listening to his same speech and thinking **** this guy is going to be trouble!

That anticipation, that look, that set up caries a lot of weight, and it’s intentionally put in the trailers.

There isn’t just one type of “villain” people.

It's nothing to do with Hammond being repulsive. He looks stupid. He looks laughable. He looks stupid and laughable in the comics too. A lot of things in comics look stupid and are silly. But in the comics, you can get away with stupid and silly things.

He just looks like a laughable, B-movie villain. He doesn't look menacing, at all. He doesn't look cool, at all.

It's a good thing Parallax looks awesome.

If you haven't noticed, he's not attractive either.

If you haven't noticed, he's not attractive either.

But Parallax looks cool. He looks like some giant alien demon thing. His design is worthy of a big budget blockbuster superhero movie.

Hector Hammond looks like the bastard child of Ron Jeremy and the Elephant Man.

He doesn't look cool, at all.
Again, who said he was supposed to look "cool" you're not supposed to want to be him or think how "badd ass" he is , he's a victim! How do you not get that?
There are different types of “villains”.

Good post. I guess that's the right way to look at Hammond.

Parallax looks really cool to me.

Huh? What has wanting to be him have anything to do with whether a design of a character is cool or interesting?

I certainly don't want to be the Joker. But his design in TDK looked good, it was interesting, it was an appealing look.

Or the Aliens in the Alien movies. They looked friggin cool. Or the Predator. Or a number of other examples.

Hideously grotesque can be cool, it can be interesting, it can be appealing.

The design of Hector Hammond is none of those things. He looks like a lame, B-movie villain who has no place in a big budget blockbuster superhero movie.

Yea he's a tragic figure. He isn't supposed to be a bad ass villain etc etc. Yea... so? I know that. His design still looks incredibly lame. He looks like someone out of those SyFy made for TV movies.

Yea he's a tragic figure. He isn't supposed to be a bad ass villain etc etc. Yea... so?
So that's exactly what he looks like a tragic figure, they got it right, yet you’re trying to project a role on him he isn't meant to have.
There are different types of “villains” and the movie has several. If he looks ugly, tragic, pitiful, like a victim it’s because he’s supposed to.
He's not meant to be "cool" like you want .

Has anyone noticed how many characters in this movie have big heads ?

Ryan Reynolds has a naturally large head, Mark Strong has a big head and the character he is playing (Sinestro) has even more, Guardians have large heads, Hector Hammond has a gigantic head, I wonder what will General audience think about this ?

Ugh you're still not getting it.

I don't want him to be cool as in, bad ass cool. I want him to look cool as in, I don't burst out laughing when i see him.

He's supposed to look tragic, ugly and pitiful yea. He isn't supposed to look laughable. Which he does. Like I said, he looks like a friggin SyFy made for TV villain.

Which is your opinion, and one I completely disagree with. I think Hammond looks phenomenal, he's disgusting and I love it.
