Well i'm not trying to change anyones mind, just expressing my opinion.

Honestly, what is there about Hal Jordan in all the trailers we've seen that makes him stand out? He's a bit cocky, but he's also a bit unsure of himself and he wants to save Earth. Yea... and? I've seen that type of character a million times over.

That's true to a point, I don't think WB have done a great job of differentiating Hal Jordon with other characters.

Going around various movie blogs I can't believe how much people are hating on this film, especially after this trailer which is a vast improvement over anything we've seen. Calls of too much CG, hammy acting, F4 like cheesiness, my mind boggles at the amount of hate geared toward this movie.

Are you talking about the actual articles and blogs, or the fan comments? Because it's been mostly positive from the former. Let's face it, fanboys flip flop like crazy. If the move will end up being good, so will the reaponses. That's why I'm waiting for the first leaked review; I can't wait for it!

Might I add that people didn't go 'goo goo' over Thor until now. It's marketing was fairly weak too.

Compared to Thor, Cap and even X-men comments about GL are just down right vicious, it's almost as if people are offended by the character. GL fans are on board, movie nerds are the ones who seem to be calling for its demise.

Seriously. I think GL has received more hate than Bin Laden for goodness sake.

it all due to ignorance. I mean Green Lantern isn't any less absurd than Thor (excluding the actual Thor mythos.)

As someone said, let them hate until the first review.

It is strange to see that amount of hate. It's hard to pinpoint why really.

I mean after the first trailer, I can sorta understand. It really was that bad. But even after this second trailer and the wondercon footage? I don't get it. Doesn't look perfect by any means, but it doesn't deserve this much negativity.

It already would have had an uphill battle, but with that first trailer on it's back it's gotta climb a mountain.

And nothing gets more hate than the TF films by the by.
Or Fantastic Four, Or DareDevil, or ghostrider...etc

Why are they being like that? The movie looks decent at the very least.

What's wrong with that? Dont TF and Harry Potter have just as much and people love them and go watch them?
My fear is Hal, to be honest. He looks cool and all that, sure. But in terms of actual character, he seems to be overshadowed by the other GLs. Kilowog and Sinestro just seem much more memorable and cooler than he does going by everything i've seen so far. Obviously you can't tell what a character is really like from trailers, so I'm not jumping the gun. But at the same time you need something from the lead character in the trailers that makes you go "Yea, this guy is awesome, I wanna see his story". I don't get that at all. I'm more excited about Sinestro, and i'm sure i'm not alone there.

Supporting characters should be memorable and cool too, but not overshadow the titular/lead character.
Kilowog is kinda cute and Sinestro is all kinds of awesome, but they re both new to the general audience so they dont know who Sinestro is going to be for example. He's just a cool mentor for now.

Given the amount of Sci- Fi films that have been well received in the last 2 years it should have been the easiest to market.

To be fair it's not pure sci fi though. It's got fantasy thrown in there too. And the whole thing where his powers come from a brightly coloured ring. I can see how that alone might turn people off.

But still, not the vitrolic hate to the degree we are seeing.

He's a second tier character (to anyone that doesn't read modern dc comics), with "magical ring powers" and "his weakness is yellow." That's the public conversation going into this film. CGI costumes and funny looking aliens...

Anyone (especially WB execs) could tell you this isn't the easiest sell, but it possibly has big rewards. And like I said, that first trailer set it back a few more steps than it already was to begin with.

Take the fantastic four and put them in wonky cgi costumes and even it would go back a step as far as initial reaction.

Haven't noticed a whole lot of widespread hatred myself, aside from people complaining about the first trailer and Blake Lively. And that's right here on this very board. Certainly no more than Captain America. I think the situation is a tad overblown.

I question whether the yellow weakness will be in the movie, at least not at the beginning.

I think the movie can be a success. Besides the sci-fi elements, Hal Jordan's like the relatable everyman which tends to appeal to audiences.

At it's core it is sci-fi, there shouldn't even be debate over that. Sci-Fi being in the golden period that it's currently in should have made this character an easier sell, regardless of how he gets his power. The term 'space opera' has been used endlessly for this film, second tier character or not, all they needed to do was show that from the start and chances are it would have won people over far more easily. WB made hard work for themselves here by not showing that first.

Yes i obviously know that, I mentioned it in a previous post.

But a trailer still needs to do the job of making you go "Yea, this guy is awesome, I wanna see his story".

It fails, for me. I wanna see this movie because of Sinestro and the other GLs, not Hal Jordan, the titular character.

You know I actually think fans of the comic are the ones looking forward to seeing Sinestro and Tomar and the other alien corp members. Average joe moviegoer will be seeing it because Reynolds is always fun to watch.

.
i dotn think the public knows hes weakness is yellow

If some people and some Comic book fans continue to hate the movie (GL) and spread negativity even before the movie comes out it will definitely affect the collections, I am surprised that many people are happy with most of Marvel movies (yes, they are good but not great, and if some think that Iron Man and Thor are the best Comic book movie out there, then I can say that continue with the same standard.)

Most reviewers are OK with Marvel movies too, now the problem is that they apply different standard for DC movies.

IF GL bombs, forget about other DC properties as Superman is still in legal battle, and Batman cannot continue forever without Nolan.

Just Keep watching and supporting your favorite Marvel movies. That is all you will get for years.

Maybe. But Reynolds isn't exactly a massive name. Not yet anyway. His biggest hits are The Proposal, which was because it was a Sandra Bullock rom/com, and Wolverine Origins where he had about 10 minutes screen time.

What?

And Batman certainly can continue forever. Nolan isn't the be all/end all for Batman. And it would be a ridiculous mentality to think that.

Batman reboot will go ahead regardless, the character is too big a brand to simply put on ice, Superman is a grey area, the likes of Flash, WW etc will be put on hold indefinitely. GL really is WB's first step out into uncharted superhero waters, they kinda have to get it right.

Batman went on after Batman&Robin, he will outlive Nolan too.
And the DC movies in general went on after Steel.

The CGI will make or break this film.

It's starting to look better, but that shot of the Lanterns watching Sinestro speaking looks like a bunch of action figures.

I think they should have used a darker film filter perhaps so the CG characters don't look so obviously fake.

I don't think the CGI is so bad that it will cause the film to fail. Other films have succeeded with similarly mediocre effects.
