I can kinda agree. But then again, it's a piece of brightly coloured jewellery that is basically a plot device. It's as colourful, superhero stuff as you can possibly get.

I think i've mentioned this before, but people talk about it being like a Lightsaber from Star Wars. It's really not. A Lightsaber, at the end of the day, is a laser sword. It's not really the same as a piece of jewellery that brings the wearers imagination to life.

Hopefully people can see past it and accept it. Because if you can get past the inherent sillyness of it, the power ring is pretty frickin cool.

Arent WB and DC the same company or does WB have the final say?

DC Entertainment is a part of Warner Bros.

Good points. I agree.

Got Milk?

they should have gone with the practical milk, the CGI milk just looks like it's floating on his face

Every time I start to feel worried about some aspect of this movie I just think to myself "It could've been Jack Black" and everything's cool again.

They should tie up GL merchandising with Mountain Dew.

It could have been Jack Black? What's that about? Was he in consideration for the role?!?!

I heard Justin Timberlake was in the running... but Jack Black?!?!

Robert Smigel wrote a draft as a comedy a couple years ago with Jack Black attached to play Kyle and Ben Stein (I think) attached as Ganthet.

Jack Black almost starred in a comedic version of Green Lantern written by Robert Smigel. He'd be Judd Plato, a slacker who receives Abin Sur's power ring after eating a live coyote in national television and is sent to Oa to help the Green Lantern Corps fight Legion.

Kilowog tells the story of Legion through constructs of singing puppets.

There is a part of me who wants to dismiss that test screening but at the same time I can't help it to be somewhat worried.. Test screenings are hard to gauge bc sometimes they are accurate, sometimes not. For example, test screenings forced WB to change 'the ending to 'I Am Legend' and the score to Troy. sometimes not for the better.

It's true, the movie would have been really screwed up if it was a complete comedy starring Jack Black. People who have said nothing but negative things about the movie should know and remember it.

Ugh... yeah, I remember the Jack Black nightmare. I was ranting like a nutcase over that one. I didn't know Ben Stein had anything to do with it though. That makes it even worse.

So glad that movie didn't happen. I remember that *****e over at CHUD arguing FOR the movie too. I'm sure they're still trashing GL over there every chance they get, because the concept of a character having a power ring is SOOOOOOO stupid and a failure on so many levels.

Which I guess is why no one ever read The Lord of the Rings and why the movies were such massive flops and critical failures.

Oh, wait.

You can't really compare the ring in LOTR to the ring in GL though.

I think you can to some extent, though. The CHUD guy's sole argument was "it's a piece of jewelry, so it's dumb." If I recall, he didn't appear to have any knowledge of its abilities beyond that. His thought process was basically: THOR HAVE HAMMER! HAMMER COOL! HAMMER SMASH THING! LANTERN HAVE RING! RING MAKE HIM GIRLY MAN!

Really? haha well that guy is an idiot then.

But what I mean is, in LOTR the ring isn't used in battle scenes, it isn't the weapon. The ring is there to be destroyed, basically. If Frodo started shooting Orcs with a laser from the ring, or started forming constructs from his imagination with the ring, you could compare them.

Wow
Trailer just aired on Uk tv for the first time, slightly different version than the others, looked awesome, more subtle improvements in the CGI too

Finally showing in The UK
Can't wait

Why does the CGI look so terrible for this movie? For a big budget flick in 2011, it looks atrocious.
The CGI isn't bad, there's just way too much of it. Everything is green and glowing, people have their whole bodies replaced, etc. Some scenes are basically the equivalent of an animated movie, because nothing is real.

It's typical Sony Imageworks biting off more than they can chew.
