Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the cast of Robert Pattinson’s second Batman movie, PEOPLE confirms.

The Batman Part II will pick up after the events in the 2022 movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Pattinson, 39, as Bruce Wayne/Batman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson is in "final negotiations" to join the film. Details of her role haven't been disclosed.

Zoë Kravitz, who starred as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman, is not expected to return for the sequel, Variety reported.

With the caveat that (a) they could be doing a wholly new, original character, or (b) genderbending an existing male character; there's not that many female Batman-adjacent characters for a big name like ScarJo.

My guesses:

• Phantasm/Andrea Beaumont: The only thing that makes be doubt this pick is that the Batman films tend to go with the more well-known characters, and I'm not sure if Phantasm fits that.
• Huntress/Helena Bertinelli
• Vicki Vale: She and Batman are investigating whoever the main villain is.
• Highly Unlikely, but I'm Not Completely Ruling Out: Batgirl, Batwoman, Leslie Tompkins, Zatanna, or Pamela Isley.

On the one hand, I think Reeves would absolutely crush an adaptation of Phantasm. On the other hand, I feel that might work a little better as a story if Batman is more seasoned, because then the surprise is that much more surprising — i.e. how’d he miss that it was always Beaumont?

Phantasm is such a good dark mirror for Batman; you can dress it up however you like.

Swap Arthur Reeves with Harvey Dent.

Phantasm starts targeting mobsters (or suspected Court members) seeking vengeance. Even Oz Cobblepot needs Batman’s protection—making Bruce question what good Batman is doing if the police are hunting him and he’s protecting criminals. Maybe Bruce initially thinks it’s Andrea’s father. Or maybe she has help from Lincoln March— another who’s been burned by the Court.

And, then, enter Joker

I don't see us getting a live action Mask Of The Phantasm remake. I think Reeves is just going to use the idea of an old flame of Bruce's being the central antagonist and make that idea his own (which he should absolutely do).

We get very little info about his past, so frankly we’re going off vibes and almost anything could be included and work. I read Battinson as a mega virgin but it’s not like that’s actually textually in the film.

I don't think that the core point of Andrea is the fact that she's an old flame.
This Bruce has trained and maybe had travelled, but the main characterization of Part I is that he still is a boy, a reclusive boy that has been more and less always in his castle.

So, I think that Andrea could be just a childhood friend (but maybe that's too Rachel Dawse?) or she is just a woman linked with his family and the whole flashback plot of Mask of Phantasm is here set in the present day.

But again: doesn't it resemble too much on Selina from Pt I and Sofia from The Penguin?

He's not weak like Tobey's Spider-Man or Bale's Batman.

The way he hold his shoulders at the door of the Iceberg Lounge compared to Batman is why Pattinson holds the crown as Bruce/Batman now.
