Official Silent Hill Discussion **

It's not what it was about but you would still get that feeling though.

It's meant to be more personal to the characters in the story. The town tailors to the living. The fact that ghosts appeared with missions for Murphy to solve, who have no connection to him, it was just weird lol

I can totally understand your point. I do think it's interesting to see how some people can, more or less, share a connection, even in their own Silent Hill. when you think about it, it was already the case in SH 2.

And in the Room, it wasn't even Henry's Silent Hill.

I like that it can be about more than the person herself.

Downpour just utilised the concept in the wrong context. I get the shared connections and dragging others into a personal Otherworld of the one who has it manifested it. But it made the town feel like a ghost town with mysteries to be solved in order for the dead to move on into the afterlife lol
The connection was crime and punishment and freedom, of course. Murphy came across things were he had to ammend himself for the crime and darkness he had within himself, by becoming something of a do-gooder around the town. I liked that. But it made things feel less Silent Hill, to me. It had a point though.
I just hope we don't get something similar again because it worked with the context of Downpour.

They could to something similar, but less litteral. Like they did in shattered memories, where you could see ghosts and learn about their story, but you couldn't mix with them.

Here's the thing I get.

Silent Hill was originally the site where native Americans would flock to, to communicate with the dead. So it's not out the norm to see ghosts about, like Mary in SH2.

That's what I wouldn't mind. Mary and Joshua were the ghosts of the respective main characters, James and Alex.
Lisa was a ghost and a monster combined. They appeared human, but were really dead. Like Harry in SM. They were ghosts, but you couldn't tell until upon realisation.

There are definitely hints of ghost presence in previous installments, so really, that doesn't bother me, as long as it's done well.

Bur you never quite knew if they were actual spirits, or simple manifestations of the conjurer's mind lol

I agree with you, but the same could be said of the side quests in downpour imo. What if they are only products of Murphy's guilt? There are several of them that could definitely be representatives of his mind.

Could be lol

All the crimes he solves might be from stories he heard in prison?

Maybe, or they could be representatives of his mind, of his guilt.

He has the chance to solve crimes of the past and allow the victims of those crimes to move on from their "prisons". He redeems himself and they reward him for being noble.

I reckon, they are indeed the spirits of the dead, who have been called back from their purgatory, through the power of the town and Murphy's state of mind. The two elements meet half way.

I wonder if thats how the game will be, or if its just a teaser. No more third person camera?

Also, "simple" is not a word i think of when i hear Kojimas name.

I figure it'll be a mix of first and third person.

And I was referring to the game mechanics/concept of this teaser as being simple, and not in a negative way; all you're doing is basically

Walking down a hallway from one door to the next in an endless loop as the story unfolds with each repetition.

Its simple but it's damn effective. Judging by the events taking place, that's where Hideo is getting his freak on, lol.

Oh haha yea I know, I just heard someone else say the same thing about how its such a simple concept and to see Kojimas name at the end was the real shocker.
