Wow, what a performance from Cain. Lesnar looked friggin pumped for the fight until Velaquez caught him with that short punch that Lesnar completely leaned into while going for a takedown.. followed by his spinaroonie.
Didn't shock me to see Cain try & take Lesnar down, I had a feeling he'd try to stick him on his back if Cain became a little worried by Lesnar's either punching power or his ability to power a takedown.
The difference in this fight & the Shane Carwin fight was that when Lesnar was in trouble, Carwin was throwing fight ending bombs one after the other after the other.. he connected with about 6 of them and threw about 15..very inaccurate and energy consuming. Whereas in this fight, after Cain hurt him with that knee Cain threw mildly powerful punches that where more accurate than powerful, they where enough to get the fight stopped & keep Lesnar guessing and indeed wobbled.
Lesnar expended alot of energy not only in his first onslaught, but just trying to keep moving when Velasquez had him down. So unlike in the Carwin fight, when he did try to grab hold of a leg, Cain just pulled his leg out.. combined that with eating alot of punches he was wobbled & tired.. the cage held him up when he briefly got back up.
I had a feeling Velasquez might be a future champion.. I just didn't think he'd be the man to beat Lesnar.
Credit to Lesnar though, he came out like a freight train. He barrelled into Velasquez getting 2 takedowns & got some good solid shots landed in the clinch, including a flying knee of all things.. coming out like this I think kinda proved his downfall. When he got Velasquez down Cain had half a butterfly guard if there is such a position, Lesnar I think thought he was in some danger of being kicked off so he was very impatient & tried to advance position immediately without controlling Velasquez, which in turn allowed Velasquez to bounce back up.
