That's great news.

I'm still waiting on the flyweight division though. Hopefully they get the ball rolling on that by the end of 2011.

This is great new! Here are the sticking points:

1.) Winner of Benson Henderson Vs. Anthony Pettis will fight the winner of Gray Maynard Vs. Frankie Edgar.

2.) Bantamweight and Featherweight titles will stay with their current champions and be rebranded as UFC champions.

3.) The entire roster will carry over along with all employees.

4.) On January 1st at UFC 125 Jose Aldo will defend his title against a currently unnamed opponent.

5.) The UFC will now do four cards in 2011 on Versus.

and in other news Manbearpig was cut from the UFC as well as Cote.

kimbo vs lesnar maybe?
:funny:

but seriously, what's next for lesnar? taking a couple of months off and then challenge the number one contender for the belt?

He's got that nasty cut on his face it will take a while to heal. I doubt he will be back any sooner than next May.

UFC and WEC merging next year. WEC 52 is the last event, and the winner of Bendo/Pettis will fight the winner of Edgar/Maynard to unify the titles. Jose Aldo is also defending his title at UFC 125.

Here's the news from Dana.

This is great news, you rarely ever get a bad show from the lighter weightclasses period & the WEC has some good talent that will transfer over well into the UFC.

Looking forward to this, I hope with the addition of more talent, divisions & titles we'll see even more PPV events.

Great news

I think like any fighter who has been TKO, KO'd or took alot of visible damage ie cuts they are typically suspended from the UFC for 90 days then they must have a checkup by doctors & a CT scan before being cleared to be signed up for another fight.

I think he can still train though, though obviously he wouldn't be allowed to spar or even roll with people incase his stitches re-opened.. basically anything except something where he could be reopened up.

Saying that though, Diego Sanchez took a pasting & even worse a beating from BJ, including one of the worst cuts I've ever seen in MMA & he was back fighting Hathoway inside 5 months all healed up.

^^
I think he's medically suspended for 6 months.

Looking forward to see if Ben Henderson can hang with the UFC 155ers.

which is why Im a bigger fan of those divisions so Im all for it...what does this mean for TV coverage? will they stay on Versus and Spike?

It looks like there will be 4 events on Versus in 2011. They'll still have their deal with Spike for TUF, UFN, and a few of the numbered cards.

Overall in the short term it's fewer free/cable events. Under the WEC banner they had 7 or 8 shows, when you add the 2 UFC shows that's 9 or 10 cards on Versus for 2010.

Who Lesnar? Got a link cause I don't believe that for 1 second.. it wasn't that bad of a beating.

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Brock-Lesnar-17522
Brock Lesnar -- suspended 45 days, with no contact for 30 days; 60 days, with no contact for 60 days for left cheek laceration; and 180 days, with no contact for 180 days (may be cleared early by ophthalmologist)

He could fight sooner if he heals well, which will probably happen.

Start believing.....

Lesnar, who suffered a first-round TKO loss to new champ Velasquez, is suspended 180 days with no contact for 180 days due to possible eye injuries, though he can be cleared early by an ophthalmologist. Regardless, he faces a 60-day suspension with no contact for 60 days due to a left-cheek laceration. Even if the 60-day suspension hadn't been levied, he had faced a 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons.

Whoa..

Hang on though:

suspended 45 days, with no contact for 30 days; 60 days, with no contact for 60 days for left cheek laceration; and 180 days, with no contact for 180 days (may be cleared early by ophthalmologist)

So hes out for 45 days with no contact for 30 of those 45.. correct? & 60 more days with no contact for 60 days.. correct? then a potential 180 more with no contact for those 180 days.. correct?

45 + 60 + 180 = 285 = Approx 10 months

45 (30) + 60 (60) = 105 = Approx 4 months (Having no sparring or rolling for 3 out of the 4 months)

Article is kinda worded poorly. I doubt that 180 day suspension will even come into effect, if it does or is partially completed he must have taken a blow directly to his eye &/or had poor vision in said eye in the post fight checks.

If I recall Anthony Johnson had something similar after an eye poke in a fight, the blow/poke impaired his vision I believe to a point where he had to get some form of laser surgery to remedy it.

I'd say Lesnar's next fight will be in May/June'ish unless there are complications with his vision in the injured eye.

question:
with UFC and WEC merging, the conterders for titles or top 5 fighters for each weight divisions are going to change right?

I'm wondering how that will play out with the top "money makers" fighters and the title shots. I mean, would Dana want a top seller fighter from UFC against the top fighters from WEC in the same PPV? UFC vs WEC?

How will this merge affect or benefit UFC?

Well, WEC only has 3 divisions right now, and 1 of those overlaps with the UFC (155). The winner of Henderson-Pettis will fight the winner of Edgar-Maynard and unify the UFC 155 belt and the WEC 155 belt.

135 and 145 will basically be the same, but they'll get the benefit of more exposure, etc.

Interesting thing to look for: who in the UFC 155 division will drop to 145?

O.U.C.H. :wow:

Just goes to show you just how dangerous elbows can be if they connect, I don't think it was this big though when he first opened him up. I think it was made worse/bigger with the abuse he took just before Herb stopped it cause the blood was pissing out of it at the end.

Diego's cut is the worst I've seen in MMA from the headkick BJ threw, absolutely brutal. It looked about 3 inches wide & about 2 inches deep.

No discussion of cuts is complete without a mention of Marvin Eastman.

I don't want to post the pic, but look it up if you haven't eaten for a few hours.

Like Joe Rogan said, it looked like a goat's vagina.

I don't mind him so much, he is a fan and seems to have a genuine interest in MMA as an industry and a sport...ill take foolish enthusiasm over dry *****ebaggery like Joe Buck any day

Rogan's a good announcer/analyst. He's pretty good at BJJ too.

Goldberg is annoying, but he 'dumbs down' a lot of things on purpose. He's really not as stupid as some people think.
