I always thought WEC was owned by UFC, like a minor league or just lower weight class thing.
 
WEC was operated as a "brother" promotion to UFC.....both have the same owners, but are now being merged
 
Happened a few days ago but I only noticed there now, Gonzaga is released from the UFC & quits MMA.

Apparently hes only gonna be competing in BJJ/Grappling competitions.

I was hoping that he'd go to Strikeforce or Bellator to help out with their heavyweights. Both orgs have really thin heavyweight divisions, and Gonzaga could have made for some really interesting matches. Being on his back against Cole Konrad would force him to use his BJJ, and he'd make a credible opponent for most Strikeforce guys who are just sitting around twiddling their thumbs right now.

It's sad that Vitor's sister got kidnapped and killed. That would have an effect on anybody in any line of work. I can't imagine working through something like that.
 
Yeah, that's pretty F'd up. Even though most people would think the anger at the loss of his sister would make him a better fighter, being unfocused on his technique would cost him matches. Kudos to him for continuing on, and being as good of a fighter as he is.

Dude chooses to act like a 12 year old bully. Not clever, not funny. GSP is going to beat the living hell out of him.
 
Jon Fitch and Jake Ellenberger are fighting at UFC 126. I guess Ellenberger calling out Fitch on Twitter gains him the fight. I'm a big Ellenberger fan, but I think Fitch takes it. Ellenberger just may be the best prospect at welterweight right now, but nobody can stop Fitch except GSP and maybe Kos. Fitch is like a damn machine.

Mir- Lesnar III has no way of furthering his career. Also, I think he wants Nelson for either the fact that he thinks he is the highest guy next to JDS and Cain so he can get a title shot faster or he actually wants an easier fight to improve.

Mir-Lesnar III shouldn't happen for a while until both have explored other fights in the division.

I think since the JDS fight, Nelson has proved he is no chump & isn't gonna be a stepping stone or an easy fight for anyone, he went 3 rounds taking a pounding from arguably the best striker in the heavyweight division. He is capable of hitting hard, has a black belt in BJJ, a good chin & his cardio doesn't look that bad for a guy that looks like hes McDonald's no1 customer.

If Brock hand picked Nelson or Dana hand picked him thinking that Brock will steamroll past Nelson & reinstate some of Lesnar's 'unstoppable force' credibility he'll be in for a hell of a shock when he fights him.

Hard for me to say that Nelson's good because I've disliked Nelson ever since that win over Kimbo on TUF.. I don't even like Kimbo, but I hated that fight being stopped for the reason it was stopped.

Lesnar should have at least 3 more fights (that he obviously must win) before he even glances in the direction of a title shot; Kongo, Cro Cop, Nelson or Nogueira.

He needs to learn howto compose & defend himself correctly when hes under pressure. He takes his eyes off the opponent & just covers up.. which isn't smart in a fist fight as anyone whos ever had one will tell you.

Fitch frustrates me sometimes in the same way that GSP does from time to time, moreso Fitch though. It frustrates me when a guy that looks as talented as Fitch does in the cage won't take things up just 1 more gear and try to finish his fights.

He looks capable of finishing them if he would just take that little extra risk & open up on guys when he has them under his control.

He'd probably have had a title shot by now if he'd finished at least 1 person in a good fashion since his lose to GSP.

I'm glad Gonzaga and Cote got fired. Gonzaga refuses to improve or try and go to the ground. Cote blatantly cheated against Tom Lawlor.

UFC and WEC merging is good news. Lighterweight guys will get much bigger paydays and more exposure now.

The bad news is that a lot of lightweight fighters from both companies are pretty much on blast right now. One more loss could mean a pink-slip, like for Jamie Varner.

Fitch doesn't have KO power in his standup or ground and pound, nor does he have good subs on the ground. What he does have is great wrestling for MMA and great positional BJJ. That doesn't lead to a lot of finishes, but I'm glad he doesn't try to force things to be entertaining like Chris Lytle. I'd rather see a technical guy that's a little boring than see dudes with sup par striking "stand and bang" for the fans.
 
Chris Lytle has won his last four fights and he's won I think 5 out of 6. He is something like 9-9 in the UFC, but he's been on fire as of late.

I just don't see Fitch improving like he says he has. I don't see him bringing a skill set to the table that will beat GSP.
 
Not only can Fitch not beat GSP, but he's got no shot at 185 if he's serious about competing there.

On another note, BOY did Koscheck get pissed when the "male nurse" razzed him about faking getting hit by illegal knees. Hahaha.
 
The wild card pick on the show, yet again being submitted by guillotine chock, i say Dana, as the other fighters said, made a mistake putting him back in....

I'm not saying I want to see him standing with guys who have a clear striking advantage & will more than likely knock him clean out.

I want him to fight to his strengths ie his grappling & wrestling, but I want him to cause some damage & inflict some hurt on his opponents. Recently he has won his fights purely because of his wrestling, hes kept his opponents grounded & point scored with small strikes when possible.. this is why I think Fitch hasn't had another crack at GSP already before Koscheck.

Fair enough it is MMA & out wrestling/grappling an oppenent is a form of martial art/winning.. however its also a fight, I wanna see at least abit of desire to try & hurt your opponent, submit or try & end the fight before the end.
 
Am I crazy, but did anyone else hear Kos say, " I learned how to grasp with the Vaseline in my ass," when he was arguing with the medic?
