I don't know if you guys are aware or not but this week, NBC is airing Leno episodes from `92, `93, `95, and 2000. Tonight they're airing a 1992 episode with guest Tom Hanks.

This is a good way to make people tune in. Ever since the writer's strike began I haven't been watching late night tv, but I'll definitly check out tonight.

I watched. I hate to say it but Leno has actually gotten better over the years. Everyone says that he was funnier back then, which may be true of his monologue, but the show itself is much better now.

Leno sucks all around, old school or new school. Letterman's where it's at.

Letterman was cool when he hosted Late Night. Now he's just alright. Conan is the best talk show on television right now.

I don't know where they classify against each other, but The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is tops over them all. I only wish he did an hour-long show.

I saw it last night and I thought that the idiots from the Tv channel here were "to blame" for that. Ok, I'm calm now.

I totally agree:up:

Isn't Conan suppose to replace Jay from 2010? I heard 2009 will be Jay's last year.

2009 is Leno's last year and when Conan takes over.

EDIT:

Although there's rumors that FOX has offered Leno a deal which he is considering. So, in 2009 we may see Leno hosting his own talk show on FOX.

Oh, I see. That would be great news. I don't understand why they want to replace him though.

Leno has been hosting for 15 years and every year he becomes less relevant. It is true that he has the #1 talk show, but thats only because he is on at 11:30pm and because Letterman ain't what he used to be. Fact is that Conan, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert are more relevant than Jay Leno. So, NBC is making the wise decision of letting Conan take over in 2009. The ONLY thing NBC and us have to worry about is Conan making the same mistakes Letterman made. When Conan takes over the Tonight Show he can't approach it like Late Night BUT that doesn't mean that he has to completely change. We love Conan for what he does. Drastically changing that MAY or MAY NOT work. He has to be careful.

I like Conan, but I'm thinking that he might approach the show just like Late Night and that's kind of weird, I don't know...But what about the rest of Jay's team: Kevin, John, the band...Will they go with him as well?

I'm watching old school Leno right now. I think it's from 1995. He just talked about the OJ case so yeah, it's definitely old. lol Jennifer Aniston is a guest.

Yes.

1995 was Leno's best year.

If Leno gets another show, I'll follow him without a doubt:cwink:

And Letterman is staying on until summer 2010.

Leno didn't want another situation the last time the Tonight Show gig was open, but with his constant jokes about NBC primetime being in the toilet and not speaking on the subject (just being positive for Conan) the word is he will go over to Fox or ABC. NBC passed on him twice to host the Emmys, giving it to Conan. One reason why these "classic" episodes are airing is because a portion of the Leno audience is watching the Letterman reruns since its new to them. So with the strike, Leno has dropped to second.

Letterman is a dinosaur.

the word is he will go over to Fox or ABC.

ABC already has Kimmel. So, it'll be FOX who gets Leno.

Exactly. And I think it worked. This week was the first time I've seen Leno in about a month.

Letterman is a dinosaur, the man who replaced him on Late Night will now be his competition. That is wrong. Letterman has something on Les Moonves.

That won't stop ABC. Remember they were close to bringing over Letterman and cancelling Nightline with Ted Koppel. Who had been there for 20 odd years. ABC can easily cancel Kimmel and Nightline (even though NL has better ratings now) if it gets them bigger numbers. Jay still is # 1 and even if Jay, Dave and Conan have to split the 11:30 pie, Jay probably would come out on top. To counter all the jokes Kimmel made about her, Rosie O'Donnell said on The View that Leno will replace Kimmel. Years ago Fox offered a crazy amount of money to Conan but Conan stayed out of loyalty and that to start he would be in less homes.

Nonwriting Tonight Show Staff Laid Off
Source: Variety
December 1, 2007

Friday was the last day for most of the 120 staffers on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," who left with an early Christmas bonus check and no guarantee of a job when the strike ended, reports Variety.

"Do we have a job when the strike ends? That's what everyone keeps asking," one former staffer told the trade. "They've guaranteed no one a job. They just keep saying, 'The letter explains it."

That letter is a notice from NBC's human resources department that says, "If your services are needed, we will contact you."

Variety adds that while some higher-level executives received severance packages, other staffers received only Leno's traditional bonus of $100 times the number of years the staffer has been on the show.

"We haven't heard from [Jay Leno] since the second or third day of the strike," the former staffer said. "He called on speakerphone while we were in our daily meeting and said, 'Don't look for other jobs , no one's going to lose their house, we'll get though this.' Two weeks ago, we got the heads up that we had two more weeks (of pay) and that's it. Everyone wondered, 'Is Jay going to come through?' And nothing happened. Conan makes less and he said, 'I'm going to pay for my people.' "

Still on the payroll are the exec producers and a skeleton crew to answer phones. Leno was not on hand for the layoffs. Instead, Leno's assistant notified the staff yesterday that they would get their Christmas bonus early.

Letterman's company, Worldwide Pants is paying the staff for his two shows (Late Show and Late Late Show) until the end of the year. Carson Daly is going back to work to ensure his staff is paid. So what is Leno doing?

This doesn't look good for Leno. Conan will be coming out looking like a hero while Leno sits on the sidelines doing nothing.

Even the Christmas bonus formula. The guy pulls down around $30 million a year, plus whatever he makes with his other projects. I think he could up the bonus a bit more, especially this year.

The bonus is a joke. 100 x the number of years you've been working? He could definitely do better than that.

Wow. Definitely ups my respect for Conan 1000 percent.
