Yeah jumping spiders are a bit cute up close. I used to be aracnophobic a bit (didn't want to be around them, but no passing out, or anything extreme like that), but forced myself to get over it in my mid-teens. Oddly enough, I've only been bitten once, and it was by a jumper. I was half asleep, and felt a tickle on my arm. I brushed it, and felt something hard roll down my arm. I felt a tiny pinch, and knew what happened, but it didn't hurt. My mom on the other hand was hospitalised reaching for my bro's bottle (before I was born) when it fell inbetween the beds headboard, and wall. They never figured out what type it was either.

That story reminds me of when I was a kid. My bed had a headboard with a mirror and a light. I was half asleep and suddenly I feel something crawling on my face. I reached up to turn my light on, sat up and brushed my face lightly with my hand, and a centipede fell down into my lap.

And....suddenly I have an intense itching sensation...all over. :csad:

This is a juvenile form of the Cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopus) after being parasitized by Tetrastichus julis, a parasitoid wasp which lays its eggs inside the larva of the beetle. They eggs hatch within the larvae and begin to feed while it is still alive, before they burst out and kill it.
These parasites are often used as a biological control, as the Cereal leaf beetle is considered a pest and regularly feeds on crops.

I'm not squeamish usually, but that beetle is the stuff of nightmares! I would cry if I saw that in person. EWWWWW! :wow:

I will not be satisfied until that larva infested beetle is destroyed by a BFG9000.

Okay that does it. How can I possibly feel comfortable knowing that the Treehopper and Almiqui breathe the same air that I do? If those things are not launched into the core of the sun, I will cry.

The most harrowing encounter with a spider that I've ever had occurred on Thursday (third week in a row that I've seen one)

This is pretty much what happened:

Dude.....WTF??? :csad:

Why?!?!?!?

I often find myself asking that very same question. I think it's because the universe is cold and indifferent.

It's good I guess that it does kill these things if all it does is damage crops.
