Some of you may have heard a lot recently about mantis shrimp, so I won't get into all of the fascinating and impressive aspects of their biology, but here's some background.

These guys come in two main varieties: slashers and smashers. The slashers tend to lacerate and impale prey, and the smashers tend to crush hard-shelled prey. They achieve tremendous acceleration with their front appendages, about on par with a .22 round. Also, they get quite large:

I've heard the smashing type will break your aquarium glass. That ppl will put in air currents like they do with jellyfish to keep them from wanting to approach the glass.

Also, are those the ones that flick their claws so fast that they send a bubble powerful enough to knock smaller fish out? I remember seeing that particular talent, but can't remember if I'm mixing up two sea creatures here.
