Falcon and Winter Soldier "On Your Left" - FALCON / SAM WILSON aka the New Captain America

i think the shoulders need a tweak

and yeah something is slightly off with the cowl, i can't put my finger on it, but it just seems off. but still a good foundation they have. like cap's suit in ultron getting tweaked again in civil war

The whole head sock thing has never looked right, even with other comic book characters. They should have stuck with just the goggles or gone with a fully-enclosed cowl.
Agreed. He’s not even protecting his head. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable that thing must be to wear.

They've met aliens, super soldiers and literal gods. I'm sure the reaction would just be "Oh a vampire."
They never had a reaction to any of the others

I would think that if not Sam, someone else dropping the line "oh, Earth has Vampires now!" like when Thor responded to Strange "Earth has Wizards now."

Frankly I think the suit looks a little goofy in live-action.

I think it’s appropriate that his first outing in the Stars and Stripes is as a capital S superhero, bright colors, ripped straight from the comics, goofiness and all. The same way a lot of people want this for Superman.

I think it sells the moment harder from a story standpoint.

Just like with Rogers, in later movies, I think they could make him “cooler” with more muted colors and more tactical design later on.

Yeah, but would vampires expand Sam's Big Three to four? Androids, aliens, and wizards...plus vampires? And later, mutants? Celestial gods? Sam's world is gonna get a whole lot weirder in Phase Four.

To me, this was Mackie's best acting in the MCU so far. Massive improvement from Altered Carbon season 2 as well.

Not sure that I love the new costume, but hey it's fine. I don't hate it either so that's probably a decent place to be. Might end up calling Sam Captain Falcon more often than not. Mostly because I'd really kind of miss the Falcon name being connected to him.

He had a good arc in his show and props to him for doing everything he can to make fighting with the shield work. Can't pull off quite the same stuff, but can rely on his skills and tech to do some unique stuff so that's fine.

Really will be interesting to look back on Sam's journey whenever it actually ends. Obviously it's ridiculously early to think about the end since he's just inheriting this title. But from Cap 2 to...wherever the end happens to be he'll have had quite a run.

I think he's going to be amazing as Captain America! Though I do wonder why he isn't wearing any head protection. I mean, that's an easy target for a marksman.

He is Captain America.

So is Steve Rodgers. Saying Sam Cap on a message board is utterly innocuous to be honest.

But when people say, Captain America, Steve Rogers is who they think of. That's just how it goes. For instance, there have been others who have taken up the cape and cowl, but when you hear Batman, you think of Bruce Wayne.

it may be recency bias but sam has catapulted his way up to the top of the list for me. he is now my favorite MCU hero.

I absolutely love Sam’s new suit but a friend of mine said his mask looks like he stuck his head into a condom and it broke at the tip and now I can’t unsee it. :funny:

bingo, the legacy characters will always be foremost in people’s mind, no matter a replacement or successor.

This year is the 80th Anniversary of Captain America (Steve Rogers) society recognized that. Steve will always be associated with the title.

The same goes for Bruce Wayne is Batman, Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Clark Kent is Superman,Tony Stark is Iron Man.

Sam's come a long way from being introduced as a sidekick. Mackie (and the writers) have done an absolutely perfect job at conveying how much of a badass asset he is. My favorite appearance of his was in Civil War. Loyal to Cap and the team no matter his disagreements about Bucky.

Sam would just put the celestial gods in the Aliens category.

Why doesn't Sam Wilson have some kind of nanotech built into the Wakandan Captain America suit so that the Falcon wings disappear when he's on the ground and fighting, a bit like Iron Man's armour in Infinity War that could disappear/ retract? Otherwise it could get in the way and could be bulky or trip him up/ unbalance him.

The wings do disappear/retract into the jetpack, and they can retract fairly quickly (they showed it during the fight with Karli, he had extended them into the ground to help brace against one of her attacks and then as he begins to counter her moves, pulls them quickly back in). Or do you mean the jetpack/housing shouldn't be as bulky as it is? Remember, his wings aren't what ultimately propels him through the air, it's the jet pack (the wings are more... stabilizers/assist with his manuverability), but also the jet pack houses the Redwing drone when not in use. I think there's always going to be *some* bulk to it for those reasons (though I do feel like the Wakandan tech is slimmed down at least a little bit from his previous Falcon jetpack) - but he's used to that, he knows how to fight with it on his back and has done so for years, I don't think he'll get tripped up much by it.

I like Mackie in the role and think the show did a good job selling that he has the heart and spirit required to take the mantle. I'm game for more.

That said, I was disappointed in 3 things that hurt Sam's ascension:

1.) The Suit. It's ass. Probably the worst I've seen in the MCU and that's really unfortunate. It really undermines his big entrance, similar to Daredevil's at the end of his first season. I know it's comic accurate but it is ugly as hell and looks cheap. It was doubly underwhelming that the suit was supposedly Wakandan made. They must have made it quickly.

2.) He doesn't get a fight, and that 'could do this all day' moment. Maybe this is just me. I wanted to see Sam take down a super soldier by himself. I wanted him to get absolutely battered, but win because he's effing Captain America. He's too often flanked by other people and I could have done with some more solo shine.

3.) The writing just isn't quite there. It's not awful, and didn't kill the show, but I'm always put off by some forced banter or weird decision. Sam's speech is less significant for feeling unmotivated in the moment, and for being aimed at generic white elites that we don't know. Likewise, as sweet as it was to see Isiah remembered with a section in the museum, it seems bizarre to omit of all the other forgotten soldiers Isiah was so passionate about.
