Surely this movie will make the people of Metropolis seem even more stupid than they did before. If superman has been gone for five or so years. Then so has Clark Kent. And then suddenly both of them reappear simulataneously and resume there lives. Even if you had been tricked by the "no glasses, slightly different curl of hair" nonsense, surely Lex Luthor or a rival newspaper or something would think "Hang on a minute..."

Well, you're just the educated one, aren't we. Close thread.

Obviously Martha has covered for Clark and they come back at different times anyway.

But no-one ever makes a big deal out of the fact that Clark always disappears and reappears just before and just after Superman saves somebody.

It's Superman, you know? You just have to go with it to enjoy it.

It's always intresting what people will accept and won't accept when it comes to suspension of disbelief.

That is what they should have for one of the sequels. Thye show braniac is super intelligent by way of him not falling for the disguise for a nanosecond.

that's assuming that all of Metropolis (including Lex) knows that Clark Kent even exists.

as far as the movie is concerned...only Lois, her family, the people who work with him and his mom know about "Clark" and you have to think...if you're working with this tall geeky dude, are you really going to connect him to a superhuman that you'd be lucky to even see fly down the street, let alone get a really close look at him?

at this point i dont think alot of people in metropolis know who clark kent is anyways. as for his closer peers, good ole ma kent covered for him while he went and played hooky. well
thats the impression i get

Thats why they should have one or the other reappear a couple of months before hand. Clark could come back to the Planet and try to live like a normal human being for a few months, but that would require this to be post-crisis Clark.

Another way of doing this would be to have Superman hear the plane crashing all the way in Smallville and rush off to save it. Then after he dcides to be Superman again, goofball nerdbag Clark would come stumbling in a short time later.

I don't see how this response was necessary. And you are wrong anyway, according to the novelization.

And the "people" of Metropolis probably don't even think Superman HAS a secret identity. They would probably think he is all over the world saving people, doing "Super Deeds". The only one's who you can even remotely point to are those who know him. And, again, in the novelization the only one who really pays attention to the fact Clark was gone is Jimmy.

That could make a pretty kickass scene.... Clark. Quite super in fact.

It would. Clark could be helping his mother set the table for dinner with Ben Hubbard, plane engine blows up or whatever, Clark hears it with his super hearing, and being unable to simply sit there takes off and saves the day. It's only after that incident that Clark now realizes he has to be Superman again.

He shouldn't show up at the daily planet, BS with everyone, and that same day Superman returns to action. That is f^cking stupid and bad storytelling.

Then you didn't like the Donner films I imagine?

superman doesn't wear a mask so the general public assumes he doesn't have a secret id

Not that certain aspect no. It can be done much better IMO. Lois should have realized that sooner rather than later in the sequel. It's stupid.

The Donner film was good for it's time, but there was alot of things that could have been improved on.
