One Scene that I know X2 screenwriters would have done better

For the most part, we'll never know what Bryan Singer and his writing team (Michael Dougherty, David Hayter, or Dan Harriswould) have made X3. However, from listening to DVD commentary on X2, I do believe they would have written a better conclusion to the "Dark Phoenix Saga" that was both respectful of the original comic book and make it even better. Here's a quote from one of the X2 screenwriters on the DVD commentary:

“In the [comic] book, it’s such a beautiful moment where it’s just her and Cyclops. And she says ‘I got too much power; I can’t handle it; I have to go.’ She basically uses a giant gun to kill herself right in front of Cyclops. I wanted to take that one step further and have her bring Cyclops up to her. And say, “I can’t be allowed to live; I can’t allow this to go on.” She uses Cyclops’s own beams to destroy her – which I think is what made the studio nervous about doing it because it was really disturbing, upsetting, and psychologically scarring for Cyclops; but I knew it would kick ass for the X-Fans. So like I said it got cut along the way.”

I'm pretty sure they mean that Jean would remove Cyclops visor and telekinetically force Cyclops to open his eyes. So Cyclops is helpless and has to watch himself kill the woman he loves.

The X2 screenwriters cut this scene from X2 because they felt that "Dark Phoenix Saga" was too soon in the movieverse and because of Fox's hesitation. I do think this would be a great ending for Jean destroying herself rather than have Jean ALLOW wolverine to kill her.

I swear to God, Fox should NOT be allowed ANYWHERE NEAR the creative process...

Talk about a missed opportunity for a perfect ending... :(

now that would have been so much more better and sadder and a gooder ending to Logan just stabbing her.

Both X men and X2 had much better endings than this movie.

It started out great, progressed fine enough but ended horribly. Bad endings can ruin an otherwise good movie.

Awesome way to end it. Sad, but great, moving and a big tragedy.

That would have been amazing!!! I hate Fox! They do this to X-Men and I miss Futurama :(

Agreed - on both points.

That ending would have been amazing to see - I like that even more than the comics.

Jean could pull off his visor, begging him tearfully to use his optic blast. Scott refusing, keeping his eyes shut. Jean: 'I have to die, Scott - it's the only way. You can make it quick. Please, help me do what's right.' (only better dialogue than that). 'I love you Jean' he finally says. Beat. He holds her and opens his eyes....

yeah, seriously. That would have been an awesome ending. For the love of crap. Stupid Fox. Stupid Singer for leaving us with these morons to make what should have been the best of the series...

...actually, I can't stay mad at him; he's a good director and a true fan of comics. And he left X-men to do Superman, which I can't really blame him for.

You guys are now just finding this ending out. Yeah, all I could think about during the final scene was Cyclops doing that to her instead of what we got. Would've been so much more moving.

How do you guys think Paramount would have made the X Men Movies????
I wonder cause they made a damn good job with spidey.

She shoulda come up out of the water right after they all started worring just like the comics

Jean: take these off. I want to look at your beautiful eyes one last time.

Scott: JEAN! No..

Jean: I have to. Its the only way. I'm a danger to myself and to the world itself. I have to do this. Please...Scott. You must understand.

Scott: ... -long pause- ...I do...Its just...there has to be another way.

Jean: I'm sorry.

Scott: -taking a deep breath, he slowly takes off his visor, but he keeps his eyes closed-

Jean: open your eyes...

Scott: Only for you. -scott opens his eyes slowly and Jean holds back his optic blast and stares deeply into his eyes. They kiss and after a moment, Jean pulls back-

Jean: Now.

Scott: Jean!! Don't make me do this. Don't- Jean stops holding back Scott's optic blast and once they kick back in, a beam of red shoots at her- NOOO!

Jean falls into his arms and whispers her final words...

Jean: I love you.

Scott: I love you. -he watches her die and he holds her close to him as he weeps-

What ya think?

^ better than SNIKT im going to cry AGAIN!! (even though im supposed to be tough)

I could write it in deep descriptions, but right now, I gotta do some homework.

It's also obvious from this quote that the screenwriters understood that Cyclops was an integral part of the Dark Phoenix story.

Wow. That would have rocked in a Batman Returns kind of way.

Stop giving me better reasons to dislike X3!

Seen I spy? I highly recommand it. good movie

She plays a really good/bad, good/bad. good/bad, good/bad, good/bad, good/bad. good/bad, good/bad, bad, bad, bad secret double/super double agent.

Yeah. It was confusing at first but there were some shocking moments with what she did with her role. She even uses her accent in this one which is... pretty cool.

I think there should be a sequel to I Spy. Really good movie. I recommand it and she kicks more butt ... than in X-Men. Expecially with a knife...and a gun... and she wears black leather, similiar to her X-Men suit, but its a bit more revealing...especially her first scene in the film.
