Eh, I realize that Dragonforce can play...I just dont enjoy what they do. I gues I just expected that after 30 years of prog metal the style would eventually...you know...progress. This is why I much prefer stuff like Coheed And Cambria or Tool. It takes the idea of prog and redefines what it is for todays audience. Dragonforce would have been something cool in the mid-80s. Eh...at least they play solos, which was dead for a long time. I definitely prefer them over say, Fall Out Boy...so if kids like this then ore power to them.

Dragonforce is a very cool band. I have all of their albums and will buy the newest one next week when it's released. But yes, they are very, very cheesy and I don't think they're meant to be taken seriously. But they definitely take themselves seriously.

I know it's obvious but the guitarist Herman Li has stated that a lot of their complex guitar work is inspired by nintendo game music.

Oh, I agree. They do rock. They're cheesy as all hell, though. "Manly Metal". LMAO! I think they were dead serious when they first started out, but lately I get the sense that maybe they've caught onto the joke they're pretty much regarded as in terms of their image and have gleefully played into it and fed it to keep it going.

Manowar:

A few years ago on their website they had an offer where if you bought a certain amount of merchandise they would send you a gold ingot...which was fudge covered in foil. Thats right, Manowar was offering to pack your fudge. At this point they had BETTER be onto the joke...though...uh...Manowar rules...because they are True Metal, and wont hesitate to remind you of it.

I wouldnt put Dragonforce in Manowar's league because they dont realize that they play cheesy Metal. In fact, what they do isn't nearly as cheesy ("Achilles, Agony And Ecstacy in 8 Parts"????? come on...). Some bands even TRY to be as cheesy as Manowar (Dream Evil's "The Book Of Heavy Metal" comes to mind) but no one can compete with the sheer gouda that is Manowar.

Went to see Manowar in Germany a while back, they're awesome live. Definatly worth going even if you're not a massive fan. Only wish I could have gone to their performance in Bulgaria this year, lasted for 5 hours, they ****in rock.

Heh heh. I noticed that too. Some of the dorks in the audience didn't look much better. I thought for sure I could see the audience nerds playing Air Guitar Hero along with the band.

I like them. Their not my favorite, but I enjoy how they don't take themselves too seriously, and when you need something over the top epic, Dragonforce is the way to go.
