Aight, I know a lot of you aren't really fans of the yellow oval batman logo. i agree with you on the point that it is kind of cheesy on the outfit; i prefer the big black bat. but i think that as a stand-alone logo, to represent the character, it is iconic. what does everyone else think?

It's the second most recognisable symbol for a fictional character ever. So, yeah.

Yep. Not just for superheroes, for fictional characters in general it's the most recgonisable logo and probably a single image even.

Well, me, IMHO, I prefer the yellow oval. I don't find it cheesy at all.

I prefer it as well. Which is why the Batman Returns suit is so awesome because it's the only suit in the films to use the late 80's Jim Aparo yellow oval.

I like the oval, especially on the Burton era suits. FM gave a good reason for it in DKR, and the shape of the bat looks better, I think. (With the possible exception of the Batman Beyond logo)

I never did get why some people are so pissy about the oval. As a graphic, it's just vastly superior to the ordinary (and frankly, quite boring) bat. These are the same people hated the Burton movies, and hated Nicholson's Joker because they weren't realistic enough. Silly people, and I have very little regard for their opinions as far as comics and/or movies are concerned.

^ No, some people just don't want to see the oval in the new movies but that doesn't mean they're pissy about it altogether. Most bat-fans love the oval it was there when we first became fans. And if you're gonna group people and say you have little regard for their opinions over such a small matter....then you're an idiot

The Holy cross and the Red Cross are more widely recognised, I think.

The Red Cross, yeah, but I was talking about fictional characters only.

Jesus...I'm not sure where he fits on a spectrum between fiction and nonfiction. Some will say the the carpenter, teacher and protester existed but that many things the Holy Cross represents are fictional, while others truly believe that Gods son died for our salvation.

Oh, it's up there. Probably right after the Taco Bell logo.
I was watching that cartoon the other day--that was a funny show. I was surprised it made me laugh. Man, I miss Ghostbusters...:(

But the oval batlogo? Single greatest piece of advertisement ever, if B89 is any indication.

Taco Bell? wtf

While we're on the topic how weird is the Chinese Col Sanders? It's not right if he doesn't look a a racist old plantation owner anymore...

^^Man, you can't do that to the Colonel. He needs to be a "good ole boy." As for the taco bell thing, I figure a fast food chain logo is probably more widely recognized than a movie logo from the mid-eighties. Not that it's better, just more recognized.

Yeah but Taco Bell? It barely exists outside the USA. You have heard of McDonalds right? :cwink:

Walking into Taco Bell is like watching a parody of Mexico.

ROFL

Let's get back to the oval symbol. I love it! It's great in the comics and Burton's movies. The new films don't need it though. I wish Shoemaker hadn't used it in Batman Forever then it could just be a staple for remembering what Tim Burton gave us. The Batman Returns suit is still my favorite of all time

the oval doesnt translate well on film..just seems out of place. I prefer BB's

The yellow oval is right up there with the Superman sheild, it's unique and looks awesome, and yes it translates very well on film, it looked great on Keaton and Kilmer.

It says...Batman! It's his symbol, man. The plain bat looks like a tacked on generic halloween decoration.

Bring back the yellow oval.

Agreed. Like when the movie poster came out, some couldn't tell what it was they had to look at it at first then they got it and were like, ah man, that'scool. It was much more than a symbol.

Like Nicholson said it's one of the greatest pieces of pop art ever. It's a greatselling tool too.

Might be wrong, but didn't B89 rely on the oval image instead of the name 'Batman'?

Like the DVD cover for example. It was like saying this image is so powerful and recognisable, no name is needed.

I grew up with that symbol, I really like it.

Even tho I love BB's logo but you can't beat Batman 89's logo.

One good thing that franchise did, and maintained, was the variation on the logo. The B89 one above, the snowy Returns one, the Forever question mark one and the B&R one with the Robin over the top. The unused fifth one looked cool too.

Yeah got to love the Oval, its the best logo by far, it has more charisma than the simple black bat from Begins.
