Who is Ozymandias in Watchmen?

While Zack Snyder (300) is expected to reveal his Watchmen cast at the San Diego Comic-Con this week, a handful of actors have already been leaked.

You can now add to the line-up Matthew Goode (The Lookout, Match Point) as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, as revealed by IESB.net. This is in addition to Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan, Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl, and Malin Ackerman as Silk Spectre.

Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" – which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight.

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the watchmen?

Not a bad choice, but what happeened to Jude Law? I thought he was a lock for this.

no idea I was thinking about that myself

yeah i am not turned off by the idea of matthew goode but it would be even better if jude law had never been mentioned because he was ideal in my opinion

it is almost hard to believe how young snyder is casting this flick when everyone is supposed to be heroes coming out of retierment but i wont actually judge until i see some film roll

anyhoo the casting is pretty decent so far i am not too excited about laurie jupiture and i think the initial rumored cast was the best

keanu and all (he just would have fit the role well but crudup will rule)

so yeah promising but i really have to see little children because i have not heard earle haley speak since bad news bears so i have no idea how much confidence to have in him in that regard.

give us something brilliant snyder

make wisconsin proud

FAVRE!

And after all that time and effort people went in guessing and submitting their own suggestions Snyder assembles a cast unknowns. Have to see how WB markets this.

Was hoping Jude Law would get the part

I like Matthew Goode, so I have no problems with this at all. He's a very talented young actor.

But, I was expecting Law, so I'm a little confused.

Law was the one choice we could all agree upon, and I thought he was a lock! I wonder what he's saying now, being a huge Watchmen fanboy!?!?!?

Matthew Goode definately looks the part more, facially anyway, than Law, but one has to wonder where he went. I mean, he's a huge Watchmen fan, made it clear he WANTED to be in the movie, was almost universally agreed upon, and was, as far as we know, offered the role.

The best possible explanation is that Snyder decided to Goode was simply better for the part than Law... but it's more likely that he simply wanted to keep the casting budget relatively low and didn't want to hire stars...

I dunno. I trust Snyder, for the most part, but the recent casting news is testing it... Patrick Wilson sounds nearly inspired for Nite-Owl, Jackie Earle Haley should do great as Rorscach, Billy Crudup sounds okay for Manhattan (though I would have preferred Jason Patric), and I guess I'm cool with the Matthew Goode casting, but Malin Ackerman...? Eh. I don't know. Maybe she put in a kickass audition.

I'm surprised too, but I'm going to wait until Snyder actually reveals the cast himself to judge.

Okay. Officially, Snyder is an idiot!!! Where is Jude Law?! Where?!?!?

I dunno. The more I think of it though, the more I like this guy for Ozy than Jude Law... I mean, Jude Law looks nothing like Veidt, and I actually find it really hard to visualize Jude Law acting like him and speaking those lines... Matthew Goode I can see, though.

Wow. Arguably the Biggest Movie Star In The World in Tom Cruise at one point to this. Quite some jump.

WATCHMEN sure is shapin' up to be the Biggest B Movie In The World at this rate.

For years, we've been told that Jude Law would sell his soul to appear in a Watchmen movie, being such a huge fan an' all... Rorschach tattoo and everything.

That someone with his Hollywood clout hasn't fought tooth 'n' nail rings alarm bells with me - perhaps his being such a true fan IS the reason he actually didn't want a part? Mebbe he didn't like what Snyder's got planned, especially for Ozymandias?

Killing him off, for one thing...

I'll be shocked if Law doesn't wind up in the film in some way or another. I mean, his love for Watchmen is WIDELY known... how many actors have repeatedly stated a dream project and stuck with it? That being said, I never thought he was a particularly good FIT for any of the lead characters. Mostly, it's his voice. It would be one thing if he could change up his voice and pull off an accent, but I don't think I've ever seen him do so. Given how distinctive his speaking is, I can EASILY imagine him as either Rorschach or Viedt, both of which, looks wise, he can kind of pull off. But once he opens his mouth... I don't know, just doesn't fit. Hope he's involved in some way, though. I just can't possibly imagine what.

Yeah, the cast is B...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I don't know who this person is. I don't know whether he is a good choice or a bad one. All I know is this: he looks YOUNG. I don't know how he is supposed to play someone in his forties (albeit a man who looks younger than forty).

make up?

after all: i cant think that too many people would be unhappy if thomas jane was cast as the comedian, and hes at least 20 years younger than the comedian is by the end. (assuming Blake is about 60 years old by the time he goes flying out the window)

I would rather a solid cast of no stars than spending half the budget on actors salaries.

as for Jude law, we dont know what hes doing: he may have been cast in a different role, may have priced himself out of it, may hate the script, may not be able to fit it in to his schedule, may love the script but have decided he doesnt want to do it. May never have been asked to do it anyway.

I was looking forward to Jude Law, but this guy looks much better.

But the Comedian has many scenes as younger in the script but Ozymandias has much much more than he is older. And it is a different if he has scenes as 30 and 40 or 30 and 60... And also we dont if Thomas Jane will play the Comedian... :whatever:

Matthew Goode is also from England... :oldrazz:

No, Thomas jane was what we call an example.

its still easier to make a younger person up to look 10 years older than it is to make an older person look 10 years younger

Hahaha so the AICN report only had one actor right. :word:

Okay. Officially, Snyder is an idiot!!! Where is Jude Law?! Where?!?!?

If he is involved, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him cast as the Black Freighter sailor.
