Paul Gulacy, the best Batman comic artist ever!

Neal Adams did that? Nice. I wish they re-did the older comics on a thicker type of glossy paper and possibally re-did the color.

On second thought, that would take too much away from the old look that you come to expect with old peices of work, just a thought.

I can't stand him.

I'll second that. I don't think he's very good at all.

Although he definatley has a unique vision and the way he sets and lays out his panels is very interesting. He should direct a movie

Oh baby......

he's good, nowhere near best ever. there is something weird about the way he draws eyes, never was crazy about him.

And most of pics posted aren't even his best, except his work on Prey

I like some of his Galucy's stuff....but I think he's taken a little TOO much from the movies (ala B&RINO to name one off the top of my head)

I think Blueberry is probably right.
I have the brazilian issue but I can't look inside it now because it's at my father's house, in another city... :o
It's a nice issue (take a look at the link to read how many talented artists participate) and an awesome cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz.

I am right. I checked. It's from page 54 of Batman 400 by Brian Bolland.

Since no one's brought it up, I have to mention one of THE best Wolverine stories out there, Wolverine: Bloodlust. This was my first introduction to Gulacy's work outside of covers. He's a very talented artist who should get more work.

Alan Davis drew Bloodlust

Yeah, I've always admired how he sets things up. Very cinematic.
I just don't like the way he draws figures.

Well, he draws a Batman-Keaton style..........I kinda like the effort.

Personally, MY Batman is Jim Lee's............Lee is the best Batman artist of the past 5 years.......but, it's been my experience that the name Neal Adams is legendary.

Jim Lee, who's Batman is my favorite........he himself says that the definitive Batman artist is Jim Lee. That's good enough for me.

Btw.....teh art has been pretty bad on GOTHAM KNIGHTS. The latest issue was an upgrade though.

I admit it. His art very much looks like a Keaton Batman. I like that. It is something different and it shows the cinematic edge to his art all the clearer.

For the love of God, man, if you haven't read anything illustrated by Neal Adams, you are really missing out. :(

Paul Gulacy is a very underrated artist, and I too have most of his Batman work.

Glad to see all the talk about Gulacy here, especially since my new book "Spies, Vixens, and Masters of Kung Fu: The Art of Paul Gulacy" comes out this month. In the book we explore Paul's entire career (including a big section on his Batman work). There's of course plenty of art, quite a bit never before published (sketches, thumbnails, paintings, and personal works). The book will be available in three formats: A limited and signed slipcased edition, which includes a 16-page color bonus section; a standard hardcover; and a trade paperback. The slipcase and hardcover editions will be available at most comic shops or directly from my publisher, Vanguard productions. Here's the link:

The trade paperback is availble also at Amazon, here's the link:

Paul and I have been close friends for a number of years. He's a great guy and very appreciative of all his fans. My wife is a colorist at DC Comics and she colored his work on Catwoman and the just released Ras Al Ghul mini-series, so I know he's a great guy to work with too.

While compiling the book, his fans were all over wanting to talk about him. People like Quentin Tarantino, David Goyer, Gene Simmons (yes, the guy from Kiss), Steve Rude, Mike Zeck, plus his co-workers Doug Moench and Jimmy Palmiotti. I even got Jim Steranko to write the afterword to the book. So if you like Paul's work, please pick up a copy, it's got everything from Master of Kung Fu to Year One: Batman/Ras Al Ghul, and plenty of surprises too.

Thanks for the chance to plug.

^^Awesome.... awesome. I am wetting my pants. That book is going to be awesome. I can't wait.

He cannot draw a face to save his life and his Robin is just downright ugly.

^^I don't know what you are talking about. Are you refering to his Robin from my first post or the one that was posted by batmaluco? If you are referring to the one that was posted by batmaluco, I agree that one is not too good. That is from 1986. Look at his other pictures of Robin.

I recently e-mailed Paul, and gave him the link to this forum. He e-mailed me back. He didn't want me to post the e-mail but he called every single one of you that said he can't draw losers. And boy do I agree with him. Okay, he may not be the best in your mind but he is in mine, and many others. I was also saying that he is underrated and that he should get more oppurtunities to draw Batman.

He was also given the oppurtunity to draw the Batman Begins comic adaptation, but he turned it down. I wish he wouldn't have. The one that is out sucks. He would have done it so much better.
