Atlus has updated the Persona 5 official website with character pages for newly announced characters Makoto, Futaba, and Haru, offering official descriptions and artwork for the three and their starting Personas.

Get the information below.
Makoto Niijima (voiced by Rina Sato)

Persona-5_2016_05-16-16_001.jpg

A third-year high school student who attends the same Syujin High School as the protagonist. She is a student council president with a sharp mind and irreproachable conduct.

She is level and calm with a strong sense of responsibility and ability to take action, but is a natural-born honors student who is overly serious and refuses to compromise. However, she has her own troubles as well, which will eventually trigger the awakening of her Persona, and thereby cause an incident…

Joanna
Makoto Niijima’s starting Persona, Joanna. A unique Persona in the form of a large bike.

The front of the bike looks similar to a woman’s head. It has the same name as “Pope Joan,” who legends say was the first female Pope during the Middle Ages.

Futaba Sakura (voiced by Aoi Yuki)

Persona-5_2016_05-16-16_003.jpg

A girl with superhuman computational abilities and ingenious programming capabilities, but in addition to being naturally extremely bad at communication, she became a shut-in after a certain incident.

She is the age of a first-year high school student, but no longer attends school following her middle school graduation. Through what opportunity will this shut-in girl meet with the protagonist and friends?

Necronomicon

Futaba Sakuraba’s starting Persona, Necronomicon. A Persona that bears the name of the grimoire engraved with a multitude of information and techniques.

It has an appearance that would be broadly defined as an unidentified flying object, and seems to be a symbol of Futaba’s unknown power.

Haru Okumura (voiced by Haruka Tomatsu)

Persona-5_2016_05-16-16_005.jpg

A third-year high school student who attends Syujin High School. The daughter of the president of a major restaurant company.

She grew up in a wealthy family, and is elegant and naive, but on the other hand often observes others. Although usually good at communication thanks to her gentle appearance and people handling skills, she finds no value in human relations, perhaps as a result of the environment in which she was raised, and avoids close relationships with others.

What kind of incident would trigger the awakening of her Persona ability?

Milady

Haru Okumura’s starting Persona, Milady. A lady Persona who wears a beautiful dress embroidered with lilies. But beneath her elegant skirt hides a powerful weapon. She has the same name as the woman who appears in the Three Musketeers.
Persona 5 is due out for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan on September 15, and in North America in 2016.

That's a pretty big gap between NA and JP, but I guess it's not a surprise really since Atlus has never been known for simultaneous region releases.

Kind of glad tbh. Now I don't have to put off or rush through FFXV.

cover art is nice! love those beautiful black raven wings. :ilv:

yeah, I don't mind the delay until next year.

plenty of games coming out this fall, including FFXV.

Why promise 2016 for so long? That is my major problem. Still can't wait.

Why promise 2016 for so long? That is my major problem. Still can't wait.

To break your heart, to match the broken hearts theme of the release.

But really, from what has been said on the NeoGAF thread is that the promise of 2016 for regions outside JP has come from Atlus's NA office, which apparently is notorious for having no idea what the hell is going on with the head office and gives out wrong info all the time. I have no idea if this is true or not, but this is what a lot of people are saying there. I really haven't followed Atlus as a company that closely before.

P5_06-10-16_001.jpg
Atlus has new Persona 5 information and screenshots introducing its story, omnibus format, Palace dungeons, high school life, Velvet Room inhabitants, and more.
Get the information below.
■ Story
“When I protected the woman from the man harassing her, he got hurt and pressed charges.”
Whether it was for a small sense of justice, or possibly a different reason, the truth was distorted at the self-protection and convenience of rotten adults, and the protagonist began a “criminal record.” During his probation, the protagonist, who lives in an old-looking cafe in the metropolitan area, one day has a strange dream.

Dressed in a prison uniform, he is apprehended in a blue prison. On the other side of the prison bars are twin guards, and enshrined in the back, an old man with a strange face, always hanging his head in thought. When the protagonist went to sleep, he called—or invited—him to the mysterious blue prison known as the “Velvet Room.” It is a place that lies between dream and reality, and spirit and substance. It is a room that only someone bound by some sort of contract visits.
Although the Velvet Room accommodates the hero in the form of a prison, the old man says, “the state of this room is the state of the mind of the contractor himself,” and that the young man is a “captive of fate.”

Ruin awaits this one in the near future. And nothing can be done but “rehabilitate” against it. “Rehabilitation to freedom”… that is the only way to avoid ruin.

“…are you ready to take on a distorted world?”
—The twin guards of the Velvet Room.

P5_06-10-16_002.jpg

—Igor, an old man who imposes “rehabilitation” on the protagonist.

P5_06-10-16_003.jpg

—The protagonist visits the Velvet Room from behind a jail cell.

P5_06-10-16_004.jpg

■ The Start of the Phantom Thieves

The “rehabilitation to freedom” imposed by Igor on the protagonist was to become an excellent thief.

And from there begins the world reforming Phantom Thieves who steal the hearts of evil adults.

—The objective: to steal the distorted desires of adults and reform the target.
P5_06-10-16_005.jpg

—Before long the crimes of the Phantom Thieves are noticed by the police and government, and develop into a major incident.

P5_06-10-16_006.jpg

—Mysterious spirits runs wild.

P5_06-10-16_007.jpg

P5_06-10-16_008.jpg

■ The Palace

The protagonist and friends use a mysterious smartphone application given to them by Igor called “Isekai Navi” (Other World Navi), and infiltrate the other world of the heart, known as “Palace,” and reform evil adults.

The other world of the heart, “Palace,” is another reality seen in evil persons with warped hearts. Within the various extreme interiors of this other world, including old castles, art museums, and pyramids, the protagonist and friends aim at its hidden desires known as “treasures.”

—The Phantom Thieves’ objective is to steal the distorted desires in the depths of Palace. Various obstacles will stand in their way.

P5_06-10-16_009.jpg

—In the art museum-style Palace, there is a gameplay mechanic that lets you freely jump into the artworks.

P5_06-10-16_010.jpg

—See through suspicious areas with the eyes of a truth-distinguishing Phantom Thief and deceive the eyes of the enemy in disguise.

P5_06-10-16_011.jpg

—Through stealth actions, you can hide and initiate surprise attacks.

■ Student by Day, Thief by Night

Before the protagonist and friends are Phantom Thieves, they’re high school students who attend class and after-school activities, use free time for dates and part-time jobs, study, and play games.

Players can fully enjoy a year as a high school student, including events for each season like swimming, culture festivals, and social studies field trips.

—The protagonist’s room is in the attic of a cafe at which he lodges. He can also invite friends over.

P5_06-10-16_013.jpg

—Similar to previous Persona games, taking class seriously will increase your knowledge.

Something good might also come out of scoring well on tests.

P5_06-10-16_014.jpg

—An overseas field trip…?

P5_06-10-16_015.jpg

—Players can freely decide what to do after school. Maybe you want to take the girl on your mind to a movie in Shibuya, or possibly go home and play games. It’s up to you!

P5_06-10-16_016.jpg

—Something similar to the favorability system we’ve seen before is alive and well in Persona 5. You can also become lovers.

—There are various types of part-time jobs. You can even provide help with an election speech.

■ Omnibus Format Episodes

The episodes of Persona 5 play out in an omnibus format. Each story is independent, and before long every incident will connect and tie together to the truth. What kind of ending awaits this story depends on the player.

■ New Characters: Phantom Thieves

(These are the same descriptions we translated in mid-May.)

Makoto Niijima (voiced by Rina Sato)
A third-year high school student who attends the same Syujin High School as the protagonist.

She is a student council president with a sharp mind and irreproachable conduct.

She is level and calm with a strong sense of responsibility and ability to take action, but is a natural-born honors student who is overly serious and refuses to compromise.

■ New Characters: Velvet Room

Igor (voiced by Masane Tsukayama)

P5_06-10-16_003.jpg

On the other side of the prison bars is an old man with a strange face always hanging his head in thought. He imposes “rehabilitation to freedom” on the protagonist, and gives him the “Isekai Navi.” He’ll see for himself whether the protagonist can use his abilities to be released from jail.

Caroline and Justine (voiced by Aki Toyosaki)

P5_06-10-16_026.jpg

Twin prison guards that accompany Igor. They both look the same, and each wears a solemn eye patch on one eye. These two call themselves the guards of the Velvet Room, and generally receive the imprisoned protagonist with a sharp attitude and tone. Also, the twins vary greatly in punctuality and sometimes argue over treatment of the protagonist.

Siliconera has learned today that Persona 5 won’t include both English and Japanese voiceover options, but Atlus will instead stick to English in-game text and voices for their localization.

According to Atlus, a stable of talented voice actors have provided the English voiceovers while Atlus’s own localization team offers an English script that “provides a faithful and engaging play experience.”

Here’s some off-screen footage that was shown at E3 2016 today [thanks, Persona Central]:

If you’re curious about the talent behind Morgana’s English voice, Cassandra Lee Morris appears to have teased that she is the voice for the character.

So, once again: All we are confirming at P5 launch is English dub. I'm looking into the possibility of JPN vo as DLC, but no news there.

The above is the tweet from John Harding, who also shared “regarding expectations, know that is a massively steep, uphill request.”

As some of you may know, there’s a lot that goes into bringing Japanese voiceovers to the West, which also includes licensing, and titles such as Persona 5 that are rich in voice talents makes it that much more difficult. Nonetheless, it’s good to see that Atlus is listening to their fans and we hope to see Japanese audio brought over to the West in one way or another.

Every time I see P5 it looks better and better. Really impressive step up from P3 and 4 and those were already great games.

This wanst really on my radar but Im interested in it bc it looks like Catherine

This will be absolutely, 100% nothing like Catherine. It's a pure JRPG with a lot of social interaction stuff. Unless you just mean visually.

When I said it looks like Catherine, I meant that literally. Catherine's art style is what appealed to me initially and its the same exact aesthetic that this has

love the discript discibed from the makers .

Atlus released their E3 2016 trailer for their upcoming RPG Persona 5, featuring a look at its story and various party members in action.

Atlusreleased their E3 2016 trailer for their upcoming RPG Persona 5, featuring a look at its story and various party members in action.
Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled high school students – the protagonist and a collection of compatriots he meets in the game’s story – who live dual lives as Phantom Thieves. They have the typically ordinary day-to-day of a Tokyo high schooler: attending class, after-school activities, and part-time jobs. But they also undertake fantastical adventures by using otherworldly powers to enter the hearts of people. Their power comes from the Persona, the Jungian concept of the “self”; the game’s heroes realize that society forces people to wear masks to protect their inner vulnerabilities, and by literally ripping off their protective mask and confronting their inner selves do the heroes awaken their inner power, and using it to help those in need. Ultimately, the group of Phantom Thieves seeks to change their day-to-day world to match their perception and see through the masks modern society wears.

Persona 5 will release in Japan on September 15, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The game is headed to North America and South America on February 17, 2017. Check out our earlier report for a look at newest party member Goro Akechi, and details on the “Cooperative Characters.”

Persona 5
is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in North America in early 2017. At E3 2016 oprainfall was given a first look at ATLUS’ upcoming RPG. The game was recently revealed in Japan as the company took over the Tokyo Tower to deliver the official launch trailer. We were treated to a closer look at the game and were shown unreleased gameplay and details players can come to expect.

The scene opens with footage of the cat Morgana hanging out in the protagonist’s bag. This is where she will usually be as she comments on the various activities you participate in. She is usually hiding out of sight, since pets are not allowed at school.
The protagonist has a certain number of days to complete a mission before he is expelled. This countdown can be found in the top right corner of the screen and will be shown in red the closer it gets to zero. This wouldn’t be such a problem if there weren’t so many distractions around town. The player will be able to do lots of activities, including going to the batting cage (where ATLUS humbly wrote their name on the bat), attend a part-time job, or even go to the movies. Additionally, there aren’t any gun retailers in Japan, but the player will be able to purchase air soft guns as weapons. These activities, if done currently, give you the points to upgrade your skills. There are five skills: Knowledge, Guts, Charm, Kindness and Proficiency.

The dungeon we see explored is the Kamoshida Palace. The halls are crowded with shadows that the player will be able to sneak up on to cause starting damage to the enemies. Sneaking is fast and allows the player to hide behind desks and corners with the press of a button. Outside the palace are the twins from the Velvet Room, Caroline and Justine. We were not shown how big of a role they play, but it could be a way to swap out party members before entering the dungeon.
Players will come to puzzles in the dungeons that need to be solved to progress. You are given the option to solve them on your own or use a “Third Eye” that shows you clues, players can use this at their leisure with no real downside. Additionally, map pieces can be found in various spots that (we assume) if every piece is collected show the entirety of the dungeon.

An interesting scene was shown during a battle where the protagonist negotiated with the shadow to have it join the party. Also, you can activate a “baton pass” in battle, which gives the character’s turn to another party member.
The gameplay demo ends with a bath tub scene where the male characters bullied Ryuji Sakamoto and made the water too hot. In conclusion, the footage shown looked absolutely stunning. The enemies and environments were fully realized and given a special amount of detail to add that ATLUS charm to the series.
At this time, ATLUS does not have plans to release the footage shown.
