Petition for Fox to Sell Rights to Marvel

Depends on how rich they are, hundreds of millions or billionaires? If I had 50 billion in the bank, I'd spend 175 million to make a sequel...a real sequel. Or make one now, sit on it and release it when the rights are almost up.
But I'm tired of MCU worship and the notion that only they do good comic book films so Im probably not thinking clearly.

You know what I am sick and tired of? Fox making Fantastic Four movies. Because they have yet to make a GOOD one, or one that didn't crap on the source material in some form.

I don't "worship" the MCU but their record on their movies at the box office and critical reception speaks for itself. Sorry you are so bitter about it.

I've noticed that if you boil down pretty much every instance of MCU hate what you're left with is "I hate it because it's popular and/or more popular than what I like."


Fox hate on the other hand is entirely justified, they have not produced one single faithful or even good film with the Fantastic Four rights, in fact they made two really bad ones and one that is legitimately the worst rated Marvel franchise based film ever made. The reason people don't want Fox to have another shot is because they gave them three, and all three times made it worse than the previous film.

Marvel Studios had yet to make a film that's rated rotten in RT. In fact their lowest rated film on the site is ten points higher than Fox's average for Marvel properties, even including X-Men. There is objective, real word evidence that shows Marvel is legitimately better at making films on their characters than Fox.

In the span of 10 years, Fox put out 3 F4 movies that both critically and financially didn't do to great, the last one being a nuke on the franchise.

But we do exactly that.

Fox screwed up the Alien franchise 4 times and we gave them a chance with Prometheus and once again with Blomkamp's Alien. Fox screwed up the Predator franchise 3-4 times and we are willing to give Fox another chance with Shane Blacks upcoming predator film. WB screwed up the Batman franchise with BF and B&R and we gave them a chance with Batman Begins. Fox messed up the X-men franchise 2 times and we gave them a chance with First Class.

So really Fox hasnt done anything here that they and other studios havent done before.

The positive foundation to build on already exists in the comics. Fox isnt incapable of making a good F4 film. Fox has been turning out good films for 80 years. They have been failing to make a good F4 film because they have been half-assing it so far and making bad decisions. If they actually buckle down and get a good director and give the film a good budget they could make a good film. So no I dont think a 4th failure is guaranteed.

Exactly.

And F4 might have a good film in its future at Fox. Like I say above Fox has been turning out good films for 80 years. Its beyond proven that when Fox tries hard they can make a good film regardless of genre and story. So they are capable of making
a good F4 film. The only reason they havent so far is because theyve been half-assing it. The same way they half-assed X3, Wolverine Origins, Alien 3, A:R, AvP 1&2 and the countless other films they likely half-assed in the past 80 years. But when they actually try they turn out good work.

Not that I'm disagreeing, per se, but some of the Sony hack stuff revealed that studio execs bring up some nutty stuff. They (Sony execs) heard a rumor online that Marvel was involved with the Deadpool film and actually checked with Marvel on that. Deadpool was never a co-production, but they heard online it might be and had to find out. When execs talk about who to maybe consider for a film it reads exactly like a fancast on a forum. Fassbender and Elba everywhere. They also do, believe it or not, take a look at internet chatter from time to time. They also read all of the trades, and the trades (at least one of them) briefly mentioned this petition. (Quite a few of the leaked emails were just execs sending links to the trades and websites like Slashfilm).

Amusing that such an apparently insignificant and utterly meaningless petition seems to have ruffled a few feathers hereabouts.

I like most of Fox's X-Men films for the record, but I signed this petition (took less time than to type this post) as I think Fox are a lost cause with the FF. 3 Strikes imo, with the last not even getting remotely close.

Will it make a difference? Probably not, so I don't get why anyone is getting bothered about it's existence.

Don't like it? Just ignore it, as Fox likely will.

The first movie definitely made its money back which equals a success; the second one barely did and I don't know why they didn't go for a 3rd movie. Perhaps because it wasn't as successful as the first or maybe because they had no more stories. I didn't like RotSS but I did like the first one.
I am not a Fox worshipper, they messed up royally by not doing this seriously and by hiring Trank/not firing Trank when he couldn't live up to the task/or intifering in his creation.
Do I think Fox can do it right, maybe? The ideas in FF 2015 were interesting. The actors deserve to be in a real movie to show their talent.
Maybe Fox doesn't care about this franchise and is more into Xmen...I wouldn't blame them. I just don't like how people wanted this to fail just to benefit Marvel and now it continues with "let's sign a petition to force Fox to do what we want".

I didn't want this film to fail to benefit Marvel. I wanted it to fail to benefit the Fantastic Four. This film was never going to do them justice. They took fifty years of characterization and threw it out the window. Even if it somehow ended up a good film (which it was very evident to many of us early on it would not be) it was still unrecognizable to me as an FF film.

If Fox would have given fans the Fantastic Four film they deserve no one would be talking about wanting the rights to revert. How many times does Fox have to screw this up? Seriously?

Sorry, but if you think the ideas in this reboot were interesting you probably don't much care for the Fantastic Four. Child abuse victim Ben, drunken escapades leading to powers, and Doom with the magical power to do whatever the screenwriter for that particular page wanted... those are just awful.

The first FF movie was a modest BO success but a critical failure. This directly impacted the take on the sequel, which lost money for the studio.

Per BO Mojo ROTSS earned $289M WW on a $130M budget. If you calculate FOX's BO take at 50%, the studio got $144.50M. Subtract out Marvel's take (estimated at 5% of BO gross, or $14.5M) and FOX breaks even.......if you don't include promotional costs, which can run well upwards of $50M for a summer tent pole.

FOX took a bath on ROTSS. If not, we would be talking about the horrible Story FF trilogy.

2005 FF may have made a modest profit, but to label it as a success based on that alone is wrong. X3 also made a lot of money, but it was recognized as a failure by many due to the lukewarm reception from the critics and fans, and in DOFP Singer tried to undo the storyline from that movie. I personal believe that none of the 4 Fantastic Four movies should be considered successful in any shape or form. If people want to use box office as the only barometer to measure success then we can start calling Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction an excellent movie as well.

Fox has to realize the same thing.

They're out of options. Their goofy FF is dead and so is their dark and gritty FF.

I don't give a **** about "benefiting Marvel". I want comic book properties that have such a rich history like Fantastic Four to get the good movies they actually deserve. I want good comic book movies where the directors, producers, writers, and the studio care about the properties they are adapting and not just trying to hold onto the movie rights every seven years.

You might be trying to make this about a studio war but I don't care about one big corporation vs. another big corporation. I care about superhero movies being done right.

Silver Surfer was a dumb movie, so much so I gave up watching it. A film being a critical failure doesn't take away from its box office success...Transformers movies are proof of that. MOS is rotten but it was still a success.
With every comic book movie I see many people saying thry didn't get this or that right so I tend to take such complaints with a grain of salt. Fox did do a moderately good FF movie with the first one, missed the boat with the second one, and failed miserably with the third. It seems they don't want to do the film's but feel they have to to keep their rights. I doubt any of us will know what occured with this film, whether studio interference or Tranks incompetence, either way they need to get it together at least part of the way so they can have some success with these movies like they did in 2005. Or maybe they should just put them on TV.

Um, I want to see the FF fight Black Panther and Spider-man in Civil War.

I want to see their stories and characters mix up while expanding Inhuman/FF, Dr. Doom, snd Skrulls

These aren't mutants. These characters mix very well and compliment each.

And could you imagine if Fox still had Daredevil.

It's almost physically impossible for Fox to do a superior version.
