Rise of the Silver Surfer PG Rating: DISCUSSION

I didn't know you could get away with brief nudity in a PG film, lol. The rating sounds suitable, given that description. Thanks, Albafan

yeah but the mpaa have to say things like that to cover their asses, most if not all PG films are suitable for young kids, jessica herself said the film was suitable for a 6 year old.

The film is probably fine for all kids but it obviously could'nt be put out with a U rating!

PG-13 is thus a sterner warning to parents, particularly when deciding which movies are not suitable for younger children. Parents, by the rating, are alerted to be very careful about the attendance of their under-teenage children. A PG-13 film is one which, in the view of the Rating Board, leaps beyond the boundaries of the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, or other contents, but does not quite fit within the restricted R category. Any drug use content will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. In effect, the PG-13 cautions parents with more stringency than usual to give special attention to this film before they allow their 12-year-olds and younger to attend. If nudity is sexually oriented, the film will generally not be found in the PG-13 category. If violence is too rough or persistent, the film goes into the R (restricted) rating. A film's single use of one of the harsher sexually derived words, though only as an expletive, shall initially require the Rating Board to issue that film at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive must lead the Rating Board to issue a film an R rating, as must even one of these words used in a sexual context. These films can be rated less severely, however, if by a special vote, the Rating Board feels that a lesser rating would more responsibly reflect the opinion of American parents.

PG-13 places larger responsibilities on parents for their children and moviegoing. The voluntary rating system is not a surrogate parent, nor should it be. It cannot, and should not, insert itself in family decisions that only parents can make. Its purpose is to give pre-screened informational warnings, so that parents can form their own judgments. PG-13 is designed to make parental decisions easier for films between PG and R.

U rating?????

ya know what i mean, the film could never be put out with a U rating for obvious reasons, one its not winnie the poo, two the content is to complicated, and three the fan boys would die of an heart attack

I don't know what a U rating is?????

I know what a G rating is....

U = G

Or at least that sounds like it, but the way U is being described- to that poster, are you from out of the US?

sorry is like there different ratings in the states to the uk?

G rating is that like guidance of mild caution?

Thought so, Alba- Stretch is from the UK, I think.

Their "U" is our "G"

rape, graphic muder, vulgarity, and nudity

Uh, who said they were expecting that? We want INTENSE stylized action, not Sin City.

The thing on the apple quicktime site's a typo. (seriously)

I'm just going to go with the Apple site as that is the only thing I've seen that has given it an actual MPAA designed rating.

The script, direction, acting, etc. will speak for itself, not a slightly different rating.

I guess I must be an oddball, because I went to R-rated movies when I was four all the time. I have no issues letting children watch those movies, but since I am not the parent of my neice, cousins, etc. I respect the parent's wishes. I would have no problems with my kids watching R-rated stuff, I mean I turned out semi-sane.

"The thing on the apple quicktime site's a typo. (seriously)"

"Seriously?"

If you're so sure...then you must have made the typo or work there or something huh?

How do you know it's a typo? How do you know it's just not...PG-13?

I have not seen any tv spots that say it's PG yet.

All three sites that I gave lastnight were MPAA ratings of PG13.......

Hey man, don't get an attitude. Give me a chance. A couple things. First, that page has had that rating since the TEASER debuted. I seriously doubt that this thing had a rating in December. Second, it's the EXACT same rating reasons as the first movie. That's how I'm so sure.:woot:

Never had an attitude.

And sequels can have the same ratings as the other movies.

Spider-Man has always had the same rating.

No webhead, not the ratings themselves, the rating REASONS: Sequences of intense action and some suggestive content. I doubt that it's the same REASONS word for word.

All the Spider-Man films have been:

"PG-13-Stylized Action and Violence"
