So what's the context here? Who'd Castle kill?

during civil war... some villains were hunting down spider-man (sent by tony) and punisher murdered them in cold blood... I believe it was Jester and Jack-o-Lantern (i feel like there was a 3rd too).

Now, I admit I haven't read a lot of Captain America comics, not have I read any of civil war. But...why does Captain America care? They were villains, like Castle said. The Cap was a soldier in the greatest war of all time.

What is Cap's stance on killing anyway? I can never find a clearly defined answer.

Cap believes in the justice system... not vigilante law and order "judge, Jury, and executioner"

While Punisher did kill Jester and Jack-o-Lantern to help Spidey, Cap didn't kick his ass for that. He kicked Punisher's ass for murdering some other villains (Goldbug and Plunderer) infront of Cap and his team.

Punisher killed them in cold blood. Those two were just there to see if Cap would recruit them.

oh that's right.... i forgot about that. But that also happened right after he came back from his killing spree with spidey didn't it?

Yes. It happened after Cap had already sent Castle on a mission. Those two villains show up to the Secret Avengers hide out to see if Cap would recruit them, then BAM! Castle kills them as everyone looked stunned.

I really like that Punisher was a part of the Civil War, since he pretty much never gets to participate in event crossovers.

Despite Cap hanging out with Wolverine constantly. :o

I thought Wolverine's killer desire got tamed after the amnesia, and living with the X-Men for over a decade of his life.

Like most character traits with comic books that have multiple writers over many decades, this sort of thing is entirely dependent on who happens to be working on the book at the time. Castle had a "morning beer" when Matt Fraction wrote The Punisher, and never drank a drop when Garth Ennis wrote him. Brian Michael Bendis wrote a scene with Captain America telling Wolverine that it's never okay to kill, Ed Brubaker had Captain America killing here and there (and in the movies Cap kills quite often). Some writers have tried to explain that the Hulk never kills, while others have written that he's killed thousands of innocent people over the years during in various rampages.

So there's a lot of conflicting ideas and that can lead to some pretty bad hypocrisy from certain characters, if you consider it to be all one long string of continuity. Personally I've always found the idea of Captain America not killing to be really silly -he's not Superman, he was a solider in a war, of course he kills people- not on the level of Frank Castle, but definitely here and there when the situation calls for it.

In Wolverines books, I think he's murdered pretty much everything. He kills everything he comes across without mercy and Cap rarely says anything other than 'Oh you."

The movies don't have Cap wringing his hands about killing. I mean, he doesn't like it, but he definitely does it when it needs to be done.

I think the big factor in this case was the fact the 2 villains came to cap to be good, and join them. Punisher killed thetm in cold blood, just because.

Cap os ok with kill or be killed, but hed rather see them change their ways. Goldbug and plunderer were doing just that... the right thing.. and punisher killed them
