Pixar's Brave - In Theaters Summer 2012

Cars is mediocre IMO. Cars 2 is just......well I have no desire to see it again.

Cars was on tv last night. Watched it. Forgot how much fun it was. Still a very good movie. Just not one of Pixar's best, which isn't a bad in the least. It is like dating the 12th most amazing man or woman, depending on your preference, on the planet. Not much to complain about.

Exactly! The Avengers and Spiderman are in that manly section of the Disney Store.

The best bit? Spider-Man was literally made to hold on to those toy rights. :funny:

I love Cars. The second one I wasn't crazy about, but the first one is a really good movie.

They just opened Cars Land at Disneyland last week. I heard there was a 4-hour wait for the Radiator Springs Racers ride. :wow:

Yup. And I'm pretty sure Disney didn't buy Marvel just so they could make better comic book movies. Merchandising, my friends! :oldrazz:

I guess I expect too much from John Lasseter and company. I mean Lasseter IS this generation's Walt Disney, and Disney didn't always hit it out of the park, so I am being harsh. Mater just makes it so hard to enjoy the Cars franchise . Plus cars themselves don't interest me really.

And their current plan is to release 2 animated films a year and 2 Marvel films (plus Fox and Sony releasing a Marvel film every 2-3 years) a year so they'll have the majority of merchandise sales for children for decades to come.

I also loved the soundtrack to this. The new opening song is awesome:

Yeah it was. Like I say I really wish they would have explored Doc's death in the second movie and how it effected the others. That would have been more Pixar-esque.

I can only immagine how cool Cars Land is. Can't wait to take the kids there.

I think that would have been way too dark for a Cars sequel, especially considering the ages of its biggest fans. The tribute they had was fine.

Cars Land looks amazing. They made a total replica of Radiator Springs so it looks just like the movie. The main ride is essentially the same thing at the Test Track ride at Epcot, but Cars-themed.

Seriously? Because there are no toys whatsoever for The Avengers, Spiderman, and Dark Knight Rises.

Action Figures! :argh:

Those movies are designed to sell toys too, but it doesn't mean that the story is not the focus. Most likely not the writers or directors themselves design with the intention to sell toys, but the execs when greenlighting movies do see how many different toys and merchandise can be made off the movies as it is a lucrative business. They may tell them they want more kid elements in the movies.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if WB wanted Nolan to add the Batwing in TDKR just to sell toys.

Cars is okay, but I have no intention to see it again. Cars 2 I never saw so I can't say anything about it, but that movie felt like a cash grab than a legit Pixar movie.

A cash grab is exactly what it was.

The whole "This movie was a cash grab" thing is getting really old.

Movie studios make movies to make money. Every film is a "cash grab".

LOL, is anything in the entertainment industry not a cash grab? I don't see musicians or directors/actors doing this **** for free.

I really enjoyed cars 2. It was really fun. I loved the spy elements too

There are only a few Pixar movies that I like. Toy Story, Incredibles, and Wall-E. Every other one eh, not that great to me. Id take How To Train Your Dragon over just about every Pixar movie.

I used to babysit when I was in high school. One of the kids saw their mom pay me and she asked "Why did my mom give you money?" Her mother answered, "Do you think she does this out of the goodness of her heart?" :oldrazz:

It was a four hour wait for all the rides, my sister went opening-day.

I'm pretty much in the same boat on this one. I like the Toy Story and the Incredibles but for the most part the reat of the Pixar movie to me are ok but they're not movies I care about I guess you could say.

I loved Brave and I'm a dude and I'm man enough to admit that I shed a tear at the end of the movie. I was interrested in Brave from the first trailer I saw compaired to most Pixar movies not interresting me at all to star with if ever. Brave is also the first Pixar movie I've been to see since Toy Story 2. I do have to say the reason I didn't go see TS3 was because I either couldn't find the time to go see it or something would come up. I thought the 3D was pretty good. I can't compair it to anything because this was my first time seeing a cartoon in 3D. I give it an 8/10 and I'll buy the Blu Ray when it comes out.

Brave is good, but plot wise it has a lot of problems.

The transformation plot is horrendously derivative and IMHO doesn't work very well which I think is why it was such a big secret in the marketing campaign.

The witch subplot was also too much of an afterthought.

I loved the characters and found the movie enjoyable, but it just didn't have the fun that most Pixar films have to get me to eagerly watch it again soon. The movie seemed pretty dark as well, even its choice of colors were dark most of the time. Something I loved was when the Bear-mom told Merida to get her bow off of the table. Even though she was roaring, you could still clearly tell what she meant because that was already established as apart of her personality. I wish they would've included the witch more, her character was one of the highlights of Brave for me. The arguments between Merida and her mother were very realistic, and how both of the characters were portrayed in their point of views was fantastic.

One of my favorite scenes was when Merida and the Queen were arguing back and forth, but not face to face with each other. Loved the way that was done, and it was pretty emotional. I just hope for Monster's University, Pixar balances the drama with the humor and fun. Brave had the drama and great characters, just not enough humor and fun.

7/10

Who doesnt want more than what is fated to them?
Beautifully animated, great voice work, charming and cute.I was completely pulled in by the films high spirited heroine
Princess Merida, with her flowing red locks, and skill with the bow and arrow.
Brave's heart is in the right place but the film does falter when it goes down a path i have seen in about a dozen
other fantasy and sci-fi films.
Scale of 1-10 a 7½

I think people are way to quick to start complaining about an end to some "golden age" of pixar, or original films coming from their direction just given from the slate of films on the way in the next 4 years or so, with the dinosaur movie, the one described as taking place inside a child's mind and a day of the dead film (I am most intrigued by this one but by all reports it is several years away)

More on topic however, I think a major part of the reason Brave worked so well for me was how they handled the mom as the bear, retaining her manneurisms and personality without resorting to letting her speak.
