Pixar's Brave - In Theaters Summer 2012

Saw the movie friday with friends,we all loved it

I think a major part of the reason Brave worked so well for me was how they handled the mom as the bear, retaining her manneurisms and personality without resorting to letting her speak.

Same here, they really did a good job with that. The "no bows on the table" part when the mom was a bear was great.

I love Cars. The second one I wasn't crazy about, but the first one is a really good movie.

They just opened Cars Land at Disneyland last week. I heard there was a 4-hour wait for the Radiator Springs Racers ride. :wow:

Correction: Cars Land is located at California Adventures, right across from Disneyland. You need to buy a separate ticket to go to CA, unless you buy a Park Hopper ticket which is priced outrageously. I plan to take my kids there, once the hooplas died down a little because there's no way I'm going to let them wait 4 hours for a ride.

Yup. And I'm pretty sure Disney didn't buy Marvel just so they could make better comic book movies. Merchandising, my friends! :oldrazz:

I think Disney originally purchased Power Rangers to do the same thing, but they sold it back to Saban after realizing the limited potential of this property, plus they didn't know how to handle making a new PR series every year. With Marvel, they may have spent 4 billion for the company, but The Avengers already made over 1 billion and the merchandises always sell well consistently. As long they keep Marvel more or less independent creatively, it is a perfect union.

Little boys and some girls will always be into Marvel superheroes, so they didn't exactly make a bad purchase. They'll get it all back over decades.

The whole "This movie was a cash grab" thing is getting really old.

Movie studios make movies to make money. Every film is a "cash grab".

I don't think Cars 2 is a "cash grab" per se, but I felt that the people over at Pixar didn't exactly think the ideas through thoroughly when they decided to make this sequel. The whole movie feels like an attempt to make Mater relevant, with some spy action involving Flint McMissiles and car race competition between McQueen and Francisco on the side. I couldn't stand Mater in the first Cars movie, and I got even more tired of Larry the Cable Guy's voice in the second.

I think people recognize that all movies are "cashgrabs" at least from the studio's point of view but with Cars 2 I think people felt it was just too obviously and cynically motivated by profit, whether it was true or not.

Lasseter wanted to make it considering it's supposedly his favorite franchise, so hey.

I don't know why people thrash on Disney so much. Tangled was incredible and was something I'd expect to see from their renaissance era.

And Tangled may have been considered the birth of a new Renaissance if Disney hadn't butchered the marketing. From the commercials, I was expecting your typical "hip" pop culture referencing feature. What we got was definitely a worthy successor of the Disney Renaissance of the likes of Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast.

Tangled was great. Really felt like a classic film. Brave and the princess and the frog were also like that.
Did anyone else really love that short film before brave? I thought it was an excellent little piece of filmmaking. Really loved the music too

I love 'Princess and the Frog' I dont quite think it was renaissance worthy though mainly because I felt the film we recieved was not the film Disney wanted to make. They were bombarded with fan and racial expectations and every time something leaked out to the public if it offended anyone they were quick to apologise and state that the story was still being worked on. I wish they would have kept the project more closely gaurded because they would of been able to tell the story they wanted. The original name was actually 'The Frog Princess' which makes sense because shes a frog before she ever becomes a princess but of course without even seeing the movie black people objected to that and other original ideas and Disney not wanting to offend anyone had to change their title and at times story to please people who had not even seen a single frame of the film nor read the script. The final film is pretty good but I wish we could have seen what Disney really wanted to do its not like they didnt have black people working on the story and animation as well as fricken Oprah involved to make sure nothing was offensive, it also came across as a movie for adults who grew up during the renaissance era.

Brave was alright I give it a 6.5/10 it wasnt at all the epic adventure they made it seem like it would be instead it was actually small and flawed yet possessed some good moments and heart, you cant go wrong with heart, and visually the film is a beast.

Brave was ok. 7/10. My little girl, my son, & my wife loved it, of course.

I meant "Disneyland" meaning the entire resort, not an individual park. :cwink:

I really enjoyed Brave, though I wish they went with the original storyline/what Brenda Chapman envisioned before Pixar decided to change stuff and finally fire Chapman from her own idea.

*sigh*

I'll be seeing it again (with my nephews this time) - I gotta get my hands on some Merida plushies.

"Och, watch my movie or I'll be puttin' me arrow through yer wishbone."

My wife took our daughters, 4 and 14, to see this today. They all three really enjoyed it. The wife and teenager were totally blown away by the animation. Especially Merida's hair!

Tangled is a lot of fun. And another amazing advancement in hair animation.

By the way, what the Hell is your avatar?

My nephew loves Tangled. He's 4, and he calls it "Tangles". He also tried to clock a kid in his preschool class with a toy frying pan after watching several hundred (it seems) times, but other than that he really likes it. :oldrazz:

Just saw this. It was pretty good, another good film from Pixar. I was completely and utterly disappointed with Cars and didn't even bother with Cars 2 so Brave definitely got me rooting for Pixar again. I'd give it a 7/10. The 3D was pretty good too, nothing too amazing though.

Quasimodo ringing the bells. lol

I thought the same thing about the commercials, which is why I was so surprised to love it after watching it during my senior year in class. Regardless of the poor marketing, I think Tangled is a classic that's worthy of the renaisance. If Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen are hits then I think we're due for a second Disney Renaissance.

I think people calling Merida bratty and unlikable really shows how unconcerned our society is regarding women lacking automomy. It's a kids movie, but getting married off has serious consequence so I thought she was justified in her actions. But misguided, because she's young and saw her mom representing societal oppression, instead of the tradition itself. Which I think both daughter and mother learn at the end.

saw it the other night
i thought it was a step in the right direction after cars 2
the lesson at the end made it feel like a classic disney movie imo

the bear animation for the mum was hilarious, i laughed everytime she did anything

7/10

haters can gtfo and watch crap like Cars and the Incredibles. Brave was endearing and inspiring. no love interest. at all. praise Mary.

I don't know. You don't have to like The Incredibles, but hell no, don't put it with Cars.

Even the crappiest Pixar film is 2x better than your average film.
