I feel bad now because my Dad used to love building models when he was a kid. He even built his own working electronic robot cricket!

So when I was a kid, he kept buying models and I was like ":confused:Wha?...I don't want crap I have to put toGETHER. I want action figures, yo."

So he bought me Star Wars models, and I'd just slap 'em together in a couple minutes, all sloppily with the glue gushing out between the seams, etc.

Now I realize that he was trying to find some way to bond with me, and I wasn't goin' for it.:(

And the cats and the cradles and the silver spoons....

Anyone else into building plastic models? I was really into it as a kid. Used to build just about every plastic car or airplane I could get my hands on. Now that I'm 35, I got the urge to revisit those days, so I've been scouting for models on Ebay that I once built as a kid. So far, I've found some nice stuff. I was really into the big 1/8 scale Monogram car models, like the vettes, the camaro and the jaguar, to name a few. Just won this one off Ebay and can't wait to build it:

Yeah, me and my Dad used to build them together all the time, so that's probably exactly what he was trying to do :(.

Your Dad still living?

i knew some one who made airfix models. models are pretty cool i guess depending on what it is a model of.

I love model building :D I used to put together models Star Wars ships and various cars. I still have a Corvette model I need to put together...

I kinda strayed from that hobby due to lack of space to keep them. That and they're way too expensive to buy from the hobby shops. :(

I almost finished an R2-D2 model when I was in JH, it got smashed by some ***. I have a snowspeeder and an AT-ST Walker I need to build, I got them dirt cheap at K-mart.

I built a small bi-plane and a few other things. There weren't any father- daughter bonding moments or mother-daughter for that matter.

I think my real desire would be to build a radio controlled helicopter, but this will take some serious time, dedication and funds. So I can dream until then.

Also, I've toyed with the idea of boxcars with a buddy, but were both lazy bums. They have annual races here.

used to make fighter jets

My proudest model was an F-16C Fighter/A It was painted nice and evenly with various model spray paints.

It was the first time I was old enough to realize to paint the parts before putting them together. Unfortunately, I was all done except when it came time for the missles and bombs, I had outgrown model building. It remains forever slightly unfinished.

All the ones I built before it, a few corvettes, etc, are peices of crap with things like wheels falling off.

god no. i was out climbing trees, mugging the elderly and infirm, firebombing warehouses, all the usual high jinks a british kid gets up to

That's a whole other thread.

My closet in my parent's house is filled with several unfinished models.

As a kid, I thought it would be neat to have the completed version on the cover. When I found out how much work was involved in getting there, I set them aside and went back outside to play some unorganized baseball, since little league baseball sucked ass.
