Playstation 3 review by The New York Times - It ain't pretty.

Beautifully crafted article. Anyone who denies the authenticity of the problems brought up, and the fact that Sony's PS3 = power without brains, needs to really find a new hobby.

New York Times or not, they addressed issues in such an eloquent way that you could only dream to be able to make your mind function at such a level. :o

Actually it reads like it is written by a Microsft Exec or someone with an agenda that includes bashing Sony.

I would be curious to sit down with a machine at my house and compare my experience to his points in this article.

Yes, except he's already clocked several hours on the PS3, and all of this is written from the view of a critical consumer. If it was written by a Microsoft Exec, it would've been slanted to make Xbox 360 look like King while PS3 was a lowly piece of crap. Obviously he doesn't do this, he just points out that the PS3 has several flaws that rank it behind the 360 in ways of usability. :o

Get over yourself, you're just trying to protect your precious 'Sony'. There is no rhetoric you can spout that hasn't been said before, and no faux-reasoning you can point to that hasn't already been disproven ten fold.

As much as I love New York, I hate to admit that most New Yorkers aren't the brightest.

That's mature... :o :whatever:

That's to be expected. One of the reasons they're between a rock and a hard place is because they over-promised and under-delivered. As always. :o

Multi-media machine? Pshh. A bad excuse for a $600 console with multi-tasking problems.

You know what,- the PS3 is a pile of s-hit comparred to the 360.
Just look how lame the launch line up is, all wank EA sports titles and other reshashes. I hope 360 continues to be the leading system into next year.

Yes, Sony should be REAL proud to have such a fine launch title like "NBA Live 07."

Gran Turismo is coming to the rescue!!!!!!!!!.....but wow...I a big sony fan but this doesnt sound good but come I'm still getting it...my friend told that PS3 was suppose to cost more than 600 cause of the bluray disc thing.....but sony put a lower price tag out on it.....

Umm... PS3 is $600, with the 60 GB hard drive.

$500 for the 20 GB model.

Don't bother, telling by his speech pattern he isn't what you'd call the 'sharpest tool in the shed'. Or the cleanest dish in the cabinet.. or the brightest crayon in the box.. :D

I think you friend am wrong about price. Sony lose money on console sells, get back from software sells.

Gran Turismo no rescue. Game empty. Download for $40000000.

thanks alot for your answer...and not being childish..anyway I knew something wasn't right just wanted to make sure....last GT game was empty, but sony are gonnna fix it...hopefully

Pretty much what I expected... Not that great right now but give it a year or two and it should rock.

Those are some interesting points, but I've already decided that I will wait on the PS3. The $600 price tag just doesn't seem worth it to me, as most of the new features the system boasts are either things I have little interest in (online play), or just completely 'meh' (Blu-Ray HD BS).

My roommate bought a Wii this weekend, and we're considering buying a 360 come January, maybe in a year, when the PS3's price comes down and there's a more extensive game library out for it, I'll get it. But not now.

What do you think of the Wii?

It's quite fun, even with just the Wii sports games that come with it. I'd rank the bowling game as the best because it pretty much duplicates the game exactly, even down to the ball responding to how you move your hand when you release it.

Amen, brother.

Timestuff I take it you are a viewer of Fox News then? Please.

Anyway, I said short end of the stick because they are not meeting their quotas and there is a negative buzz surrounding the system.

I'll be getting one, but gonna wait a month or two. In all honesty Sony hasn't let me down yet. I bought a PS1 with ppl saying Sega Saturn was better, I never regretted it. My friend bragged his N64 was coming out and it'd blow my PS1 out of the water, I stuck with my PS1 and enjoyed every minute. My friend bought a dreamcast bragging it was the best ever, I eventually got my PS2 waiting and enjoyed it, his system went out shortly thereafter. X-Box came out and my friend said it would put Sony out of buisness, I stuck with my PS2 which still has games coming out, after 4 years or so his X-Box is basically done as the 360 is out.

Fact is a Sony system lasts longer you will prob end up buying 3 X-box systems in the time you buy 2 PS's. Playstations internet is free, X-box's costs you $50 a year. I'm playing it smart and trusting the system that's yet to let me down as it's the best series of systems I've played yet. Not to count you're basically buying a blu-ray player, fact is for every PS3 that sells that's 1 blu-ray disk in a home, and blu-ray is supported by, what 7 or so major movie companies out of 8? While X-box 360 supports HD I don't think it plays HD movies, but I could be wrong, atleast not out of the box I don't think, maybe with an attachment. If it doesn't then that means more blu-rays will be in homes than HD players with more supporters behind blu-ray, PS3 might win that fight which can help it in the long run.

To tell the truth PS3 will be cheaper in the long run. $600 + free internet = $600 5 years later. X-box 360 $400 + $50 a year internet = $650 5 years later, and by then X-box will probably be introducing the next X-box system meaning you'll have to plop down another $400-$500.

I don't care what the NY times says I'm getting a PS3, and I'll be enjoying my free blu-ray player, MGS, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and so on and not regreting a second :). Every system has had problems when it came out, including the horrible X-box 360 problems I've heard of. Ppl having to get their system replaced 3 times or so in some cases. If buying a cheap cable is my worst problem then oh well, and the internet problem should be expected. X-box had X-box live for years and only had to tweak it or basically leave an existing product alone. It only makes sense the PS3 internet might take a month or two of tweaking to get it up, but it won't be having this problem a year from now or anything, hardly the end of the world lol.

PS2 only beat the dreamcast because it had a dvd player, something that was rare and expensive at the time. Gamewise and graphics wise the dreamcast owned PS2. I don't care what anyone saids. It owned PS2 hard!!!! But idiots bought the PS2 because of its dvd player thus sega went bankrupt.

Yeah... Pitty you didnt factor in the constant need to download content for games via microtransactions or the hundreds of dollars a year needed to power the ****ing thing.

Dont delude yourself that paying $600 now will save you in the long run. Thats the kind of slow minded crap SONY is counting on.

PS3 is not cheaper in the long run. The simple fact that SONY are taking a $250 dollar hit on each console and the hundreds of millions it has thrown into CELL is all the proof you need.

They need to make back that money and the only place they will make it back is from PS3 owners.

All the games you listed as wanting wont be out for well over a year, so why the need to get a PS3 now. It seems like a much smarter proposition to wait for those games to come out and for a price drop on the console.

What the ****?

So you never heard of the MAJORITY of PS2 owners that are on their third or forth system then?

How many Xbox owners had to replace systems last gen?

Yeah... Not a hell of alot.

Playstations internet is free, X-box's costs you $50 a year. I'm playing it smart and trusting the system that's yet to let me down as it's the best series of systems I've played yet.

Yeah its free... If you ignore the microtransactions SONY will be assraping users with.

Blind trust in a company and system... Im thinking of a word... Its something like 'FanMan' or 'SomethingBoy'.... I cant quite remember the exact term :o

Great way of showing no understanding of the current situation with HD media

Just because you have to have BR-DVD with the PS3 in no way means people will buuy the movies for it. The DVD Player in PS2 worked because the market was ready for the format and most importantly WANTED the format.

HD media is a huge mess and shows no signs of getting any clearer for years.

Microsoft give you the option of moving onto HD Media. While SONY give the majority of people with no HD TV a big **** you!

You are not 'Getting a free BR-DVD player'

Good luck 'Enjoying your console' next month with games that wont be out for years.

'Horrible Xbox problems you have heard of'... You probably havent heard of ANYTHING WRONG with the PS3 yet... Am I right?

Microsoft have basically left XBL alone? Where the hell do you even come up with this ****? Probably the official sony forums.... Breeding ground for ignorance. XBL is in a constant state of development... They have been working at it for years now and no, its still not perfect.

SONY have a well established online model to go off. They can see where the mistakes are and how to avoid them. Instead they go and do the same stupid things Microsoft were doing back when they introduced XBL.

Good luck if you think its going to magically take SONY 'a month or two' to get an online service sorted.... Thats just ******ed.

But hey, if you believe that crap then more power to ya

Honestly, reset your brain. Remove all the crap Krazy Ken and the other SONY guys have filled you with, enjoy your PS2 for another 12 -18 months THEN grap a PS3 when its actually worth it. Not because its new and it has PLAYSTATION written on it.
