I'm not writing VR off at all... but after thinking about it I don't see myself as an early adopter. Have there even been hints of a price? I know I was betting on 300 and so are a lot of people.. but I've legit seen nothing on it.. And doesn't this thing launch in the spring?

Maybe by Christmas I'll jump on... but I'm just not sure I'm ready yet.

I think there was a rumor going around that there will be a bundle for $300 that includes the headset and a ps move controller but NOT the camera (which basically is required and is another like $60)

All the rumors I've seen are saying $600, which I think would be way too expensive if true.

Just about every place I've gone. I think they're giving that price point, because that's how much Oculus will cost.

I like Colin and Greg's reasoning (PSILOVEYOUXOXO/KindaFunny) for it being 250 or no more than 300. They don't see Sony pricing what is an "add on" more than the actual system. Even though it's not as simple as an add on.. that's what a lot of people may consider it.

can you post a source? because everywhere I've seen isn't going higher than $400

Yeah.. I mean lets be real.

VR is probably the future of how we'll game. I'm not saying controllers will go away.. because they won't... But Sony needs to be MIGHTY careful here. IMHO they have to be willing to take major losses if they have to to get this thing out the door at a cheap, affordable price.

$250 is the sweet spot.

Realistically, though, can Sony really afford to bleed huge amounts of money on a product that really isn't proved and may end up flopping? Several years ago maybe, but after the massive losses they have taken from hardware sells in the past contributed to Sony's overall weak financial situation, they're finally getting back on track, and with the PS4 actually selling at a profit, I'm not sure they're willing to go back to hemorrhaging money again in this division.

First look at Golem for PlayStation VR

Published 3 hours ago. 5 comments.

Become various Golems that range in size, shape, and ability.

Golem-PSVR-First-Look.jpg

IGN has gone up with a new preview of Golem, the December-announced PlayStation VR game from the former Bungie and Sucker Punch developers at Highwire Games, as part of its IGN First stories about the game for March.

Get the new information below.
Setting
Golem is set in a world unlike ours. You play as a girl bedridden by injury, who can interact with the world via her ability to possess Golems, which range in size, shape, and ability.
The girl stays in bed, in a small hut. Her crutches are laid out in front of her on the bed. Players can look around inside the hut, and do things such as lean over to look over the edge of the bed.

PlayStation Move
Rather than a DualShock 4, Golem uses the PlayStation Move controller. The controller is represented as a large pink crystal in your avatar’s hands.

Gameplay Demo #1: Six-Inch Golem
The first demo played by IGN’s Ryayn McCaffrey saw him stare into the pink crystal and transported into a six-inch Golem on the floor of the hut, from there wandering around with the headset-based movement system (details coming later this month). Different from the girl’s perspective, in six-inch Golem form you’ll notice things you didn’t before, including nails that hadn’t been hammered all the way into the floorboards and dead cockroaches.

Descending to the area beneath the hut from the cracks in its floorboards leads to a dark area, which you can illuminate using the pink crystal as a flashlight. You’ll soon reach daylight, followed by another dark tunnel filled with armies of bugs marching in the distance and strange rock formations. This section ends when you encounter a very distinct rock Golem carving after crossing a series of narrow wooden planks resting atop a chasm.

Gameplay Demo #2: 20-Foot Golem
This time, IGN’s Ryayn McCaffrey became a 20-foot-tall Golem in a sunny desert area. Here, you can move, swing, or twist the Golem, whose wide sword is controlled with the PlayStation Move controller. Walking forward leads you to another giant Golem, ready to duel.

To attack, you simply swing your sword. But you must first block your opponent’s attacks in order to break its defenses. This may include lifting your sword over your head to block higher attacks, as well as sword thrusts from the right or left sides and other more advanced attack patterns.
The battle ends after you chop off one of its arms and strike it down.

Specs and Release Window
Golem runs at 90 frames per second. It is a PlayStation VR exclusive that has been in development for two years, but it won’t be a launch title for the platform.

If they want it to sell? Yes. I'm not even sure the Super hard core will jump on it at 400+. They can not reasonable sell a add on for more than the console. They just can't. I mean yeah.. They can.. But it'll sit on the shelf and not do a thing.

Sure, I don't disagree, but I think it's hard to ignore the fact that Sony relatively recently bled huge amounts of money on hardware sells that was one (of, admittedly, many) thing that put the company in a financial hole that they are still digging themselves out of. Considering how they have done a lot to make sure the PS4 is sold at profit (I personally think Sony made this a bare minimum requirement for the PS4 myself, after the PS3 hardware losses).

It just seems unlikely that they are going to now throw out a piece of hardware and sell it at a potentially huge loss again. Especially when it's something that's as uncharted and unproven as VR. I don't know, I could see it, but it feels unlikely considering their situation now.

October 2016; $399.99. HOWEVER, Camera is required for PSVR to function but is not bundled with the system, Move controllers are Optional also not bundled with the system. As it stands now, the PS4 camera is $50 MSRP, and the Move is also $50 MSRP though you can find them for much cheaper.

It's weird to me that they are requiring the camera, but not bundling. Pre-orders are opening tomorrow either way.

Too bad they didn't announce VR for No Man's Sky. I couldn't care less about a Battlefront VR experience.

Yikes, so $450 entrance fee for VR, if you don't have the camera?

bc alot of people already have cameras. This is going to be a niche product any way so it likely makes more sense to just have one SKU for it rather than multiple.

ETA:

For what its worth, there WILL be a VR+Camera bundle: http://www.techinsider.io/there-will-be-a-playstation-vr-bundle-with-a-playstation-camera-2016-3

I don't know, I kind of question if a lot of people really have cameras. The fact that they wouldn't specify any numbers in that article tells it's more their version of "a lot" than what most people's are. Having a bundle like that is basically essential, really.

I don't think Sony is banking on this being a niche product, though. The industry as a whole seems to be behind VR being the next big thing.
