Plot holes/poor storytelling discussion

Who cares about the box office? None of us are getting the money are we?

I think it's more to do with Transformers 2 being an absolute pile of crappleberries.

And before anyone says it... I did like the first one. But this? This was just a catastrophe.

And I think it's safe to assume that Scott had the ruby glasses. We don't need to show him getting them or him discovering his powers because it is not called X-Men Origins: Cyclops.

Meh. I look at it this way. It should speak volumes to Fox and to even fans of Wolverine that their film gets mixed reviews and makes modest numbers, Transformers 2 gets pretty bad reviews and grosses opening numbers that rivals The Dark Knight.

Whether it's crap or not should speak volumes for the fans and Fox. If Wolverine, which is supposed to be a "good movie", cannot beat a supposed "horrible" film then I truly do fear for the likes of future X-Men films with Fox.

But I loved Transformers 2. I know when to go in and shut off my brain. It took me back to my childhood again and I loved every minute of it.

I believe it was poor storytelling to include Cyclops, Emma Frost, Gambit, and Xavier into the picture. Yeah, yeah, I know they're bridging the stories that eventually led to the first X-Men film. But it doesn't help that it was just another attempt of providing cameos just to provide cameos.

Or it could be that the first Transformers film made more money than any of the other X-Men films (despite bad reviews), the second film was expected to be even bigger (despite worse reviews), and there are really no surprises about any of it.

I don't think anyone wins here - both films could have (and should have) been much better.

I loved the first Transformers film, and I couldn't wait to see the 2nd one. Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be 2-1/2 hours of noise that seemed like it was written by a group of obnoxious 12-year-old boys on a sugar high.

I'm all for shutting my brain off during the summer movies, in fact, I look forward to it. But this movie? Yikes.

Wolverine had its issues, but I'll take those over sitting through that nonsense again anytime.

I'll start with one of the things that bothered me: Cyclops glasses. What? he got glasses that can stop his optic blasts? where did they came from? That's pretty WTF, I was expecting him to be discovering his power in the movie, or something like that... But in the movie, it looks like he either somehow got special ruby glasses, or any red glasses can stop his optic blasts...

They were probably Amber Vision glasses. High fives, anyone remember those? ...anyone??

I actually have two different working theory’s on this issue

a) this was the fist time he used his powers
the fact that he happened to put on a pair of red sunglasses that morning after waking up with a bad headache,(which was probably a side effect of his powers developing) was just an ironic coincidence

or
b) if they were the ruby glasses...
perhaps Xavier was using Cerebro to track Scott, and sent him the glasses (anonymously) after Sensing his powers were forming, knowing he would be unable to control them, but, didn’t think he was ready to be approached, just, yet
(maybe, even used his power to give him a mental suggestion too not take his glasses off)

Gavin Hood actually gives an explanation on the DVD commentary.

He states (he believes it is from a particular version of the comic books - I cannot recall this ever happening in the comics, but perhaps someone with more knowledge than I can confirm or deny) that Scott begins developing these headaches, and sees a doctor about them. The doctor, secretly being a mutant himself, is aware of what is causing the headaches (Scott's mutation), and is able to discover what the powers are. He develops the glasses for Scott, which will hold back his optic blasts, and tells Scott that the glasses will help with the headaches.

However accurate that may (or may not) be, at least there is an explanation to how he got his glasses.

And as was stated, because it's not X-Men Origins: Cyclops, or even X-Men: First Class, we don't see it explained in the movie.

thanks, I didn't know that was mentioned in the commentary

maybe, that should be a flash back scene in first class

a) How would Stryker know that he was then a mutant and how would Stryker know his power?

b) This is a little plausible. But, his glasses didn't cover his entire eyes like the visor that Cylcops wears.

My guess is that Cyclops has that power and it is functioning normally. He hasn't yet had his accident where he cannot control the power and needs the visor. I guess Stryker's experimentation on his eyes made it to where he could not control it anymore. But, that cloth wouldn't stop his eye beams so I really don't know. This movie has too many loose ends.

You people seem to forget that this is Wolverine's story and not Scott's. If they had to explain every side character in the movie, then they needed to make the movie 1,5 hours longer. Not that I personally would've minded, but maybe it would've made the story incomprehensible and complicated.

Didn't you know? Before the movie came out everyone was complaining about the cameos and that they would take focus away from Logan and Creed.

After the movie came out everyone was complaining that the cameo characters didn't get enough development...

I don't know about that Ace. I was only focused on Gambit being in it at that time. :p

Sounds to me like a good way of introducing Mr. Sinister.

I would take a 6 hour X-Men movie before I would take a 90 minute one:o

good point, but, idk, the way the scene played out it, there’s just nothing to suggestion he wears those glasses all the time, it really seemed like this was the first time he were them

idk, maybe this was monday morning, and he just developed his power over that weekend, or just started showing signs, accidentally shot off a beam in public, something enough for strykers men to have heard of it

edit: although, this could also almost be explained, by my freinds magneto theory, that I posted over in....

I still don't fully buy into this idea, but, still...

Transformers 2 was way more fun, and so much better then Wolverine. In my humble ****ing opinion.

Wolverine is the biggest pile of ass i've see this year. Hands down. Mainly because of how disappointing it was. And I like Jackman's Wolvie...

Agreed, I loved TF2 because I knew exactly what I was getting before I went in, I went to see TF2 4 times actually as I love Transformers and have since a kid.

Loved Wolverine as well but just knew it wouldnt be that good, still saw it twice of course!

I was looking forward to TF2 because it looked at least as entertaining as the first one was (I wasn't into Transformers as a kid, but I loved the first movie)...but I just thought it was dreadful.

Between that and the awful remake of Friday the 13th, I just want someone to punch Michael Bay in the face. :cmad:

I watched the new Friday the other day. I thought it was better than the originals to be honest. The originals ain't good movies, they are just popular because of Jason himself.

Jason was a stupid zombie in the originals. I liked the way he was in the new one, like a hunter. He was smart, using victims as bait and setting traps and what not.

You do realize Bay didn't direct Friday the 13th right? He's just producing it.

Yes, I'm aware of that. :cwink:

It's just the impending sense of dread I have that comes with him being attached to any film. Definitely worries me about the upcoming Freddy remake, because that actually looks halfway decent and the JEH casting was genius.

The new F13th wasn't even remotely scary (yes, we get it - he's behind you). It was just the same type of brain-dead characters that made up the original films getting themselves into the same stupid situations where Jason really just couldn't show up fast enough.

I'll tell ya a genuinely scary film...Funny Games  Well not scary in the traditional sense, more disturbing in a psychological way. And barely any blood in it atall.

Not a plot hole, but I could've swore in the last scene I saw Kayla move when she was suppose to be dead. I'm pretty sure she did, unless it was the lighting.

What the heck? So weird. Either a case of my eyes, poor editing or poor acting.
(Or maybe I'm seeing things after having a little to drink.)

What new could they do with Jason?

Why would Stryker send Sabretooth after him if all he had were headaches?

Xavier showing up without Eric(Magento) bugged me.....don't care for ifs, buts, and maybes he should have been there...
