Politics and Comic Book Movies?

I loved that when they started it, Lex was a good President....he opened up diplomatic relations with Atlantis and Themascyra (sp?), appointed the best and brightest as his advisors and Superman couldn't do **** about it

Don't forget that he illegally traded with Apokalips for Boom Tube technology and his kryptonite armor and abused venom.

I also love that they used No Man's Land as the starting path towards Lex's Presidency.

It just annoys me when people like Mark Millar and other people completely misinterpret what Captain America represents. I'm pretty conservative, but I don't want to see Captain America act that way. I want to see him be the perfect man who accepts everyone regardless of race, sexuality, ideology, gender, etc., fights for the ideals of what America stands for, and stands against injustice.

If he fell under any political spectrum, I would put him under a Roosevelt New Deal/Truman Fair Deal Democrat :oldrazz:.

I agree completely, I also like Ultimate Cap, but that speaks to my inner 12 yr old so I don't take him too seriously

yea...there was that

I remember the issue where both Lex and Bruce Wayne go to Washington and basically have a pissing match on Capitol Hill

The arc was incredible, it felt like the perfect place for Lex Luthor to be - inside teh White House! And the echoes on the other medias just cemented that fact. I'm still looking for Persepolis (no hits!), but as for the Superman/Luthor angle I just had a big-time problem with the way they ended with his eyes all a growin' green and the mecha SupaBat. Yeah, that was just cheesy. But everything else was brilliant.

I liked Lex Luthor's alternate presidential history (and legacy) in "Red Son" as that seemed more fitting for someone of his genius. If Lex didn't go nuts near the end of his presidency, I think even Superman would have had to admit his successes.

Luthor's a villain.

However that said, I was HOPING for a swerve here, have Lex grow from being President, realize he and the country he represents NEED heroes and especially needed Superman. The result was that Lex left office as an ally and one of the good guys. Marvel did it with Magneto for a while. Could have worked.

I had real high hopes for the Luthor presidency, that's still my favourite incarnation of the character, it went south, real south with that OGN. What was Loeb thinking?

Persepolis is awesome...it just isn't a superhero comic so most comic book fans ignored the movie adaptation. It did win the Jury prize at Cannes...and was nominated for the Oscar for best animated movie with a solid 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. The comic is even part of the curriculum in some American school districts. The movie deals with Iranian government, Islamic extremism, sexism and culture in a touching way...but there was no flaming skull or Jessica Alba in a skintight outfit, so comic fans just cant get up the desire to see it. I just think that it's a shame that comics most important works are generally ignored by comic book lovers.

See the movie...even though there are no superheroes...even though it's in French...it's better than almost every superhero movie ever made.

Just added it to my Netflix cue. Seeing the cover of the film I remember it now, back when it was nominated on the Oscars(I think it was the Oscars).
