Poltergeist Remake Coming on November 24, 2010!

As long as you can see what the negative have to say. Some just complain, but some have points. (remember it's the internet where logic and reason don't apply)

I personally don't mind remakes because the theory of the new movies canceling out the old is false to me.
Yeah, I agree. I mean, there are remakes I hate, and some that I REALLLLY hope don't hapen, but still. I Mean, John Carpenters' The Thing was birlliant, Tom Savini's Night Of The Living Dead was great, Rob Zombie's Halloween was cool, The Last House On The Left remake was good, and Friday the 13th (2009) was awesome as well.

oh, well, honestly, I do think it eeded a remake. I think it could work very well as a remake in present day. Also, yes, I agree. Didn't the director of the original say he was going to direct the remake?

Tobe Hooper? Nope. It's going to be the director who did The House of Sand and Fog. But they need to get new writers, or I hope that the director was hard on them because they did Boogieman and a bunch of C-level crap.

For example, people still talk about Burton's Batman films, along with the original Willy Wonka.

I think a lot of the times, when there's a remake going on, it's being made for the wrong reasons. Instead of making it fresh take, it's just a dumbed dumb modern version that looks nice. Like The Taking of Pedum 123. The original one is ten times better.

Also, there is an over-saturation of remakes right now. They need to calm down on it. It's nice to have a movie like DISTRICT 9 out there.
But for the better part all they do is complain and say how Hollywood "rapes" those movies.

Oh, he's directing? Hmmm.

well, because right now, it's a weird time in Hollywood where they'll greenlit a project if they know they can make a profit out of it. That being, remake, sequels, and adaptations.

But fanboys love adaptations of comics, so we'll exclude that. But there ARE certain movies that they CANNOT remake. Movies that are actually cinema, like The Godfather, Taxi Driver..movie that tell good stories from certain eras that you cannot deplicate. A movie like Dog Day Afternoon is not only a great movie, but a window to the 70s; to their culture. A remake of that would be useless. (for example)

I think remakes are starting to become the big thing. It's funny, I actually watched this happen, lol. I mean, we've had remakes for a long time, but still, I think it's more powerful now than ever. I also think we're bound to get remakes of history making films in the future that I don't want to mention.

Oh, he's directing? Hmmm.

He's a good director but he hasn't done anything in a while. So I'm still standing by this: If the script doesn't get punched up, I'm not expecting much from this project. The original Poltergeist was (and still is) great because of the atmosphere and everything..just worked out in the end. So Vadim Perelman has a tough task in front of him.

I don't think Drama's much have to worry about remakes, cause its mostly always old horror movies that are being remade.

I'm sure 20 some years from now a remake of Jeepers Creepers will be made. I mean if remakes are still around then, which i'm sure they will be.

Yeah, I agree.

Speaking of scripts, where the hell is the Childs Play remake? I mean, I know Brad Dourif is reprising his role as Chucky, but is there any more news?

But I wouldn't call it a powerful movement either. You're staying that as if this type of film making has artistic merit. No it doesn't. I mean, some movies might be remade and remade well, but the ratio of that is like 2 out of 10 movies.

Remakes are happening because of the economy, man. Because it's easier because the foundation of the story is already laid out, and it might be a recognizable title already.

A real 'powerful' thing would be the emergence of comic book movies, then remakes.

True, but still, I do think we're gonig to get remakes of films such as...ummm....[BLACKOUT]Jurassic Park, etc.[/BLACKOUT]

Stars Wars Meets Godfather!:hehe:

Jurassic Park has already covered whatever they needed to cover, Spider-man. And it's such a ground breaking movie, why even bother?

That's a fact, if you ask me. They're just going to keep getting bigger and bigger. 2011 is going to be one crowded year.

You make a good point there.

I think the original creators are still working on something yet.

To get that last god awful movie out of everyones minds.

True, but it could happen 20 years from now. A remake that I think is bound to happen is a remake of Evil Dead.

They can't just remake something because they can. I mean, you might be right, but I doubt it.

The Evil Dead remake is an example of a remake where they don't understand what made the original trilogy so good. It wasn't the special effects or the acting: it was Bruce Campbell and Raimi's low budget style that made that film special. Especially with the sequels.

I mean, if they do a remake, don't put a new Ash in there. Just put in teens or whatever. Bruce Campbell is Ash. Period.

I think the track record for remakes of horror films is actually better than the track record for sequels. For every great sequel like Bride of Frankenstein, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead II (which raises the stakes on comedy), and Aliens (which is arguably more action movie than horror film anyways), there's about 10 sequels that are no more than rehashes of the original with the "scares" now familiar. Taking the same basic premise, but totally reimagining the details can keep things fresh and modern. The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the various takes on Frankenstein and Dracula including Nosferatu, and The Fly are remakes that work.

Thats actually been in the works for a while, but nothing really has come of it.
Indeed. Though, I think we're getting Evil Dead 4 first.

Agreed.

Speaking of remakes, I think the best one will probably be A Nightmare On Elm Street. I don't know why, but it just sounds terrifying.

Remakes are not new in Hollywood. The first major studio Frankenstein film was even a remake of an experiment by Thomas Edison. He made the first Frankenstein film. I don't really care if they're making remakes. If someone can take a story and take it in a different direction, or improve, or just give me another look at an idea, I'm in.

When I was a kid, watching Poltergeist scared the holy beejesus out of me long after I walked out of the theater. I was 9 years old at the time.
