Is a 300W power supply unit good for a PC? I'm building a computer for my senior project and the case I like has a 300W PSU.

Sure, though it depends on the MB that's attached to it.

It depends on what you're trying to power with it, but for most standard desktops 300-350 watts is adequate.

My own thought on this would be-If you're building your own box,why go adequate? A high end 700 watter is what, 90 bucks?
Unless you're just trying to build a smaller machine(with a smaller case).

It depends on the Motherboard, the video card, the hard drive, and just about anything else you might be slapping into your machine. Go to google and search for "Computer power calculator." There are numerous tools out there that will help you pick the minimum required power for your machine...if that's what you're going for.

i.e. http://www.schrockinnovations.com/powercalc.php

I have a 480 Watt PSU that came with the computer case and that was the cheapest case that exists out there. What kind of case nowadays carries PSU's at 300 Watts???

The case I wanted is now out of stock. I'm probably going to buy a case without a PSU and a 450W PSU now. Spend a bit more but I get a $10 rebate on a better PSU.

The case I planned on buying didn't have information on the type of connector for the PSU so I went with a different case that has a 350W PSU. I might buy a more powerful one later.

300/350 is fine for someone with 1 hd, dvd, intel processor and an integrated motherboard with sound and video on it
