Susan Heyward Lands Female Lead In Sony Playstation Series ‘Powers’, Max Fowler & Adam Godley Also Cast
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Coming off a recurring role on the Fox drama The Following, Susan Heyward has been tapped as the female lead in Powers, the Sony Playstation Network series based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Also cast in the direct-to-series project, whose first two episodes will be directed by David Slade from scripts by Charlie Huston, are Max Fowler (The Killing) and Adam Godley (Breaking Bad, Suits).

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir and police procedural, Powers, produced by Sony Pictures TV, is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below. Pilgrim is described as equal parts beauty and sarcasm, a wunderkind detective with edgy style. Fowler will play Krispin Stockley, the son of Walker’s murdered partner, a disaffected teen still struggling with the death of his father at the hand of a rogue Power which starts him on a dark journey that will warp him both physically and emotionally. Godley will play Captain Cross, the solid steel in a frail frame captain of the Powers division, bookish, respectful and loyal but may harbor a secret agenda that could lead his beloved department into a full-fledged conspiracy. In the project’s previous incarnation as a pilot at FX, Pilgrin was played by Lucy Punch, Cross by Charles S. Dutton.

Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner executive produce Powers with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies), along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners. SPT will sell internationally. Heyward is with Harris Spylios of Davis/Spylios Mamagement and Abrams Artists.
*waits for reaction to race-changed Deena Pilgrim*

Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor & Olesya Rulin To Co-Star In PlayStation Series ‘Powers’
by Nellie Andreeva

Eddie Izzard is set to co-star in Powers, the Sony Playstation Network series based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Also cast in major roles in the direct-to-series project are Noah Taylor and Olesya Rulin. Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir and police procedural, Powers, produced by Sony Pictures TV, is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers, who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below. Izzard, repped by APA, UK’s Conway Van Gelder and Morris, Yorn, will play Wolfe, the bogeyman of the POWERS universe — a top-level Power who has spent the last two decades incarcerated in the Shaft, his terrible abilities kept in check through a brutal regimen of surgical procedures. Before that, he was a mentor of then-up-and-coming Powers, Walker. Taylor will play Johnny Royalle, a criminal mastermind Power with the ability to pop in and out of locations at will. He owns a cutting edge underground venue, the Here and Gone Club, that may be part of a dark and deadly conspiracy. The role was played by Vinnie Jones in the original pilot for FX. Rulin plays Calista, a teenage Power wannabe with street smarts, attitude and vulnerability who is always seeking out her next move. In the FX pilot, the role was played by Bailee Madison. David Slade is directing the first two episodes of Powers from scripts by Charlie Huston.

Sharlto Copley Set As Lead Christian Walker In ‘Powers’, Michelle Forbes Is Retro Girl
by Nellie Andreeva

After a few weeks of on-again off-again negotiations, Maleficent co-star Sharlto Copley has been cast as the lead, Christian Walker, in Powers, the Sony Playstation Network series based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Also cast in the direct-to-series project is The Killing and True Blood alumna Michelle Forbes, joining Eddie Izzard. Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir and police procedural, Powers, produced by Sony Pictures TV, is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers, who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below. Walker is described as a dapper and charismatic faded hero who lost his powers in a battle with a super-human mass killer. The role was played by Jason Patric in the FX pilot. Forbes plays Retro Girl, the undisputed super star of the Powers community, an icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen. She also recurs on the new A&E series The Returned. WME-repped South African Copley is currently shooting Hollars.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. In the first official photo from Powers, the new TV series coming to the PlayStation Network from Sony Pictures Television, Sharito Copley and Susan Heyward show off their serious faces. The pair (and others, of course) are filming now in Atlanta, with a ten-episode season one commitment, USAToday reports.

They also got some comments from Charlie Huston, EP on the series, about what to expect. After praising Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the comic’s creators, and their original concept, Huston got into the individual characters a bit.

”[Deena] knows nothing about this world. She’s really young, she’s really inexperienced, but she’s a completely instinctive, awesome detective,” Huston said. While that sounds pretty close to the comics, her partner might be a bit more changed. When they auditioned Copley, Huston said, “I don’t know what kind of Walker that is but I totally want to see it.” He also said that he hopes “the show and the book almost run in parallel universes as they explore the same themes,” so expect some more changes as things develop.

Retro Girl, played by Michelle Forbes, will likewise be a bit of a shift form the book. “I love the idea of a mature Retro Girl, someone who's been at the top forever and ever and ever, and having that not just be an internal thing but be something we're fully aware of the first time we see her.” Of course, that might not get explored too much, if the comic gets followed at all.

Good old Hollywood, a book made in the last decade with (gasps!) blonde white women must be changed! Race must not be important to the character, after all they are white!

After changing Deena Pilgrim and Zora, the blonde women in question, I wonder what the shows plans are for Enki Sunrise?

The trailer for this was released last week. Looks REALLY good. I'd post a link, but there are some F-bombs in there. But definitely check it out if you haven't yet. Looks like another knock-it-outta-the-park performance from Copley.

neither Walker nor Pilgrim feels much like their cb counterparts to be honest.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this show looks good at all?!

I haven't been following this at all, so I just popped in to check out the trailer... it's not very good.

I just watched the Pilot 2 Episodes after that and I gotta say this actually isn't that bad. At 1st the Pilot was a little boring and I thought I wasn't going to like this series but the 2nd and 3rd Episodes both got better IMO and I think I'll probably watch the rest of the series. Course this is coming from a person that has never read the Powers Comic series so take that with a grain of salt. Give it a shot if you like it you like it if you hate it well than you hate it.

I'm a huge fan of the comic series, and I watched the pilot via YouTube, here's my thoughts:

I watched the pilot via YouTube since I don't have Plus. It was solid, a good start. I'm a fan of the comics, so my biggest issues came with not caring much with how they changed some characters (especially the two lead characters who are very different from their original counterparts). But I'm not dogmatic about adaptations, so I'm open to that. I will say the effects look pretty awful. I mean, it's a TV budget, and I'm guessing a fairly low one considering the very limited avenue, but I was a bit surprised by how bad some stuff looked. I was thinking of getting a month or two of Plus, but I think I'll just wait for the Blu-ray release and get it then.

I agree. Episodes 2 and 3 didn't look as cheap to me, or maybe I was just used to it by then.

Never read the comic but I liked the pilot enough that I'll check it out if it gets a dvd/blu-ray release.

Man, that Calista is seriously starting to piss me off.

Anyone still watching this? I haven't read the comic but I've really enjoyed the first six episodes so far. The show may have a low budget but because of the story story and acting it's better than most comic book/superhero TV series out there.

I would be watching it, but I don't have Plus. I could opted for the season pass, I suppose, but I think I'm just going to wait on the physical release.

Has anyone from Australia seen the first episode pop up on their ps4s? Apparently it's out already but I can't find it. Is there a licensing issue?
