Powers General Discussion

This show is kinda terrible, I feel like they spent the majority of their budget on Sharlito Copley.

It has terrible effects, but if you can look past that and the often terrible acting it is enjoyable :)

There is something about the story that keeps me wanting to see what is going to happen next.

I find it funny that it says "The most watched show on PlayStation Network" Isn't it the only show they've put online yet as part of Playstation TV?

No, you can watch any show on PlayStation Network. Powers is the only exclusive show, but you can buy and stream shows on the service just like iTunes or Amazon.

And I'm not sure what you're saying with the PlayStation TV thing. You can watch it on any PlayStation device as far as I'm aware, not just the PlayStation TV (the PSTV is just Vita hardware that you hook up to your TV as opposed to it being handheld; it's actually called the Vita TV in Japan).

Quiet Pixen, no one must know about that part they 'forgot' to mention. :o

I'm just saying that it wouldn't be hard to be the most watched show on PSN. Its the only original program so it wouldn't be that hard to be the top watched show... That's all.

I don't know, I see what you mean, but when you consider that almost any other non-streaming service exclusive is on there I think it might be more of an accomplishment than you imply. Now, the fact that it's free to any PlayStation Plus subscriber now, that might be a fact that warrants pointing out its omission a bit more ;)

Yeah, I guess I was going for the the latter part of your reply. I applaud the attempt to make the comic work as a show but after 3-4 episodes, I can't get past the cinematography/look of the show. It just looks kind of cheap and oddly lit at times.

Finally got around to watching the pilot last night. It was okay. I'll watch a few more before bed tonight and see how I like them.

In any case, I'm glad it's renewed. iZombie, Flash, Gotham, Daredevil, and Powers all debuting this season and getting renewed is positive; it means comic book adaptations are still finding an audience. Arrow is also renewed, and SHIELD is a sure bet. Agent Carter is a question mark and Constantine is probably gone.

But to have this many Marvel/DC (or their imprints) shows in one season and only have a maximum of two cancelled is great.

That one hurts.

That one hurts.

I call them as I see them.

Constantine was destined for trouble when they re-shot the pilot and delayed the debut until mid October at 10:00 on a Friday night. A move like that indicates that NBC didn't get nearly the quality they were expecting with the pilot.

I like the show and I'd be psyched if another outlet picked it up, but it isn't hard to see why it was the only one of the nine DC/Marvel shows to fail this season.

But back to the show at hand.

I watched a few more episodes of Powers yesterday.

The characters and the world around them are interesting.

The effects are cheesy and the acting isn't very good

Sony product placement all over the place. Sony tablets, laptops, TVs, phones, headphones, PS4... not exactly subtle there, guys. Even more noticeable than the Microsoft and Lenovo stuff plastered all throughout early episodes of Arrow or Flash.

Over all it's a pretty decent show. Nothing special, but certainly watchable so far.

I really wanted to like the show. I love Bendis as a comic writer (Alias, Daredevil being two of my favorite comic series he's written) but just can't get into this. Part of me hopes that the second season takes the first season and learns from some of the less stellar parts of it.

I really hope they get a better cinematographer/lighting specialist as I think that's what bothered me most about the show. It felt and looked like a 90's comic series. I also am not a huge fan of Sharlto Copley's overacting and hope it gets toned down a bit.

At the very least, regardless of what you think of the show, I do highly recommend the comic series if you're a fan of Bendis and haven't read them. They are, honestly, probably his best work to date.

I call them as I see them.

Oh no, don't misunderstand or anything, I wasn't contradicting you or anything. I know Constantine is toast; I just enjoyed the show a good deal.

Charlie Huston, the showrunner, has left because of "creative differences."

Halfway through the season now.

So far, it's just good enough to keep me watching.

Still seems really cheap but it's growing on me.

Its strange the show is not horrible but at times the acting and effects are just bad but story is very good and now it has room to grow for its second season.

Why did everyone ignore the fact that Calista basically murdered Olympia?

About time the show got a subforum. Hopefully more people will check out season 1 before the premiere of S2.

I finished watching the show tonight and I don't really understand why
Crispin
wasn't arrested.

Still, it was decent. Better than Gotham, SHIELD, or Carter in my book. I'll watch season two.

The plot developments of the show and the fixations of the characters make no sense.

Like we can't kill these psychotic killers because we're cops...except when they are on the loose, then I guess we have no choice.

So I was just wondering. I've been contemplating whether to start watching Daredevil a second time through, or give Powers a try. To those of you who have seen it, is Powers worth the trouble of hunting down for non-PSN subscribers?

I think Powers is worth seeing, but it's not close to the level of Flash or Daredevil. Watch those two and iZombie first, then come back to Powers.
