Elfquest is Coming to the Big Screen
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
July 9, 2008

Elfquest, the cult comic by Wendy and Richard Pini, is heading to the big screen courtesy of Warners Bros. and Rawson Thurber.

The Hollywood Reporter says Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) will write, direct and produce the feature, whose format is undetermined.

The original comic, which the Pinis initially self-published starting in 1978, followed a tribe of elves known as the Wolfriders in their attempts to survive and link with other dispersed elves on an Earth-like planet with two moons while on the lookout for tribes of humans and trolls, both of which acted as allies and enemies.

That's quite possibly the gay'est cover for a comic book I have ever seen.
I hope this is a decent movie, I like fantasy movies.

There's a better chance of me walking outside and finding Paris Hilton washing my car while eating a hamburger than WB ever getting around to making this movie.

P.S. Wrong forum T.

How so? They were with Marvel, than independently owned, then to DC, then back to indie. Now they're just a name brand with an RPG.

Aren't they a video game now an whatever happened to Warcraft the movie.

Wow, those images really bring back the memories. I still have that Marvel issue 1 (reprint of the earlier black and white series) and a large chunk of the subsequent series as far as meeting up with the Gliders.

A movie would be very cool, although given the long and tangled plot I wonder what parts would be focused on aside from the obvious escape from the trolls and start of the quest.

Huh they made speedracer, they made a freaking dragonball movie what makes you think they wont make this into a movie. In other words they already opened that can.

By the time all the money trickles in from those mistakes there will be even more reason for them to avoid something this risky. They have nearly a dozen superhero titles forever stuck in development hell that would be more feasible at the box office than Elfquest.

better luck next time i suppose never read series but i love me some elf's
Wendy Masque, an employee at Warp Graphics has posted a somber update on the Elfquest Official Facebook Page:

"After close to four years of suspense - and longer than four years of your much-appreciated interest and support - the word has come down from Warner Bros. And the word is "no." Their simple explanation is that they don't want to compete with "The Hobbit." This was a possibility, among several, that we were prepared for. It is a relief, at last, to know.

So...where that leaves us is that Wendy has done all she can, for three decades, with regard to an Elfquest movie. There is nothing more she can do or wants to do. As for Richard, he will continue to manage Warp Graphics' properties and pursue publishing and licensing opportunities.

Thank you so much for all your love and encouragement. Believe us, it has not fallen on bare rock. We will spend the next few years producing Elfquest "The Final Quest." Then, who knows? Our capacity for dreaming big has not diminished.

Are the Elves in Elfquest midgets ?

PS it is a genuine question.

Elfquest isn't as relevant as it was back in the day. I could see why they dropped it.

I'm not familiar with the property though i have to ask , why did WB pass on the project. I can understand them not competing Elfquest with Hobbit but that doesn't mean that they could make a movie once both hobbit movies are released.
Or is it simply a case of them just not seeing anything profitable in the property ?
