I have a question, is Casino Royale a sequel like all the other JB films, or is it a prequel like in the book series? If it is a prequel why is a lot of the older characters in it (i.e. M-Judy Dench, and R-John Clease) Please someone answer the question.

It's none of those. It's a reboot, like Batman Begins. All continuity is thrown out the window, although there was very little in the first place.

Also, Cleese isn't in the film.

Because Q isn't in the CR book so that's why he isn't in the film too but I think John Cleese as Q will return in Bond 22.

Yeah, continuity has been vague and has rarely come up in the series.

Which is why I'm taking Casino Royale as a prequel-of-sorts, despite the presence of Judi Dench, the modern setting and whatever other continuity problems there are. It doesn't matter.

Bond has been timeless and ageless to be able to continue through the years, so if you can accept that the 00 agent losing his wife in 1969 is the same guy getting hurt on the Millennium Dome, I don't think it takes much more a jump to just go along with a film where he gets his 00 in present day.

So, with the lack of a realistic timeline in the series already and with the folks behind CR always saying things along the lines of "it shows how he became the man in the existing films", it's a prequel to me.

Are they going to show his parents being killed in the climbing accident?

No. It's mentioned in passing, but that's it. And thank god, too. This isn't Batman.

Exactly why this should work so well. The Bond series has never had any continuity, especially from actor to actor. Where CR falls in the timeline is irrelevant.

So, how do they recruit him?

I always thought when a new actor stepped in it was like a reboot?

Umm, well his recruiting had nothing to do with his parent's death, so I don't know how that follows.

But he's already been recruited before the film begins. When the film begins, he's just about to gain Double-O status after having been serving in MI6 for eight years. Check out the dossier on the official site - it goes into his record prior to that quite thoroughly.

I dunno, I never thought of it that way. I thought the producers wanted it to be the same guy. But like was said before, there wasn't a whole lot of continuity anyway.

Well EON has always kind of viewed each actor as a reboot. The characters are give different birthdates in the context of their films. Dalton's Bond was born Nov. 10, 1948 as stated on Dalton's Bond's passport. Brosnan's was born June 5, 1961 as stated on his medical sheet in TWINE. They are *not* the same, and thus continuity and chronology has always been rebooted.

hi, first post here at the hype. :)

by the looks of what this film is based on, i'd say it's a prequel.

not a prequel, but a restart of the franchise, like Batman Begins.
