Take 'em all with a grain of salt. I am doing that.

- The Surfer is somehow "summoned" by Doctor Doom, as in, in his quest to get his hands on more Power Cosmic, he accidentally makes The Surfer aware of Earth's existence.

- Doom steals the Power Cosmic from the Surfer and plans to use it to destroy the FF, but then Galactus appears and Doom switches sides, helping their enemies to defeat the Devourer.

God i hope not, well at least with the part of Doom teaming up with the F4.

Yeah, I don't buy any of that.
Doom's got to be freed from his "carbonized" state before he can "summon" anyone. My guess is the Surfer will be the thing that (unwittingly) frees him.

HMMMM well it sounds better than Surfer just Happening to find Earth. I don't know what to think about the Doom part.

MY guess is that it's not Doom himself who "summons" the Surfer, it's Doom's scientists who do that while trying to revive their leader.

Just a guess based on a premise that may be false, mind you.

The Surfer doesn't "just happen to find" Earth.
He seeks out viable planets for his master. That's what he does. It's on his W2.
If they've got Doom or anyone "summoning" the Surfer, my hopes for this movie will go down considerably.

Unless Doom already had a beacon in place BEFORE he was rendered inert.

Remember; he was obviously already interested in outer space.

So you're saying he could have been beckoning whatever might be out there, and if it happened to benefit him first and foremost...
And the Surfer, after seeking out the source of the beacon, ends up helping him more than he'd imagined, by freeing him from his Han Solo state, there.
Hmm.
And a scene showing Doom setting up the beacon in the past (which would have to be in Latveria, since that's where he is now) could allow McMahon some "unscarred face" screen time.

I'm really hoping they keep Doom's face covered throughout the film, unless getting further scarred is part of the story.
Doom's remaining ever unseen was a big part of what made his character so compelling in the comics.
Anyway, he was lookin' pretty dang bad by the end of FF1, and that was before he got "carbonized." No way he comes out of that mess all GQ unless...maybe the power cosmic? :cwink:

I think that maybe Doom himself is the beacon. He's probably giving off a cosmic ray signature, especially because he's contained in whatever that state is...
So the Surfer simply investigates what he's sensing and ends up freeing Doom.

I can just see the newly freed, GQ Doom showing the Surfer around his mansion and high-tech facilities...until he figures out how to steal the Surfer's power. What an ingrate.

I read in another thread that Story has said the new Doom has "three looks" so...wonder what that means?

Have we got an official "speculation" thread?

3 Dev Adam, I'm confused. why, and I mean this in the most unoffensive way possible, would an insider be emailing you?

Bingo. Then Doom befriends him, turns on him, steals his power....and we're off and running!

The Surfer freeing a mind trapped in metal has it's roots in comic canon.

This is how Quasimodo became humanoid.

Cause I'm a journalist as well. And, as such, I get TONS of bullcrap, fake news and stuff. You should see my growing collection of fake pics of Saddam Hussein's body. He appears clean shaved in half of 'em.

Nah, it's okay.

This would follow the wedding and chase scene of course.

I'm guessing we get a 5-8 minute origin of the Surfer for an extended prologue. This would allow us to see at least some of Galactus (as as been indicated) establish who the Surfer is and that he once had a conscience...So we the audience have the whole picture from the get-go.
I can see the titles come up as Galactus sends the Surfer forth to find worlds...Maybe we'll get to see a world consumed; that would certainly establish how serious a threat Galactus is.

I just don't see the origin being done any other way...As a flashback, it's too cumbersome. But as a prologue it would establish a hell of a lot in just a few minutes and start the movie out on a cosmic scale FF1 never had.

Cutting from scenes of that scale to Reed & Sue's wedding preparations, and our other familiar characters, that would be dramatic in itself. I would cut from dramatic credits to something humorous, like Ben and Johnny picking up the wedding cake or something like that. I seem to remember reading about a scene like that being filmed early on.

We know from the MTV online article a few weeks back that there's a line of dialogue in the film from the Surfer, something like "I was once called Norrin Radd."

Wresting the power cosmic back from Dr. Doom is plenty to do in this movie. Doom and Surfer both need fleshing out as characters and of course the Four can't be short-changed.

I think the threat of Galactus will be left looming, so there can some sense of closure.
Probably a second wedding scene, with vows actually exchanged, then cut to the newly-reformed Surfer, floating above the Earth, vigilant.

Kinda the same feeling we got at the end of Spider-man 2. That last shot of the obviously worried Mary Jane...

Just theories.

Well that's a relief.

See, when I read others giving the "Ultimate Extinction" Galactus a big thumbs up, it's like nothing surprises me, you know?

I agree... and a bit OT, I was disappointed to see that Marvel has licensed this new bust of Doom from Sideshow. It has a removable mask and it shows a sculpt a face that looks pretty much like Deadpool. And get this part... the nose is removable so you can, to quote the ad "choose how hideous Doom appears" !

Makes sense to me since we did see there was some power fluctuation on that handheld device at the docks (nice cameo by Ralph Winter there). I wonder what is the lapse of time from the end of the first movie to the wedding scene in the sequel? Six months or a year maybe? Would the Surfer confuse him with one of his own kind? He looked a bit like him at the end of the movie when the transformation had become complete. I would prefer that Doom end up back in human form somehow because I never liked that they decided to go the Ultimate Doom route in the movie and not use the classic, armored Doom.

If they could pay homage to that scene in FF#57, I will be a happy camper.

Has Story actually said that somewhere? He hasn't been adding to his blog all that much. I keep thinking about a couple of times when Julian McMahon has made jokes about coming back as a fembot and it makes me wonder if early versions of the script have Doom's robotic replicas show up.

As for Doom teaming up with the FF, that's not so far fetched if you've read Fantastic Four #116, in which Sue has to recruit Doom to lead the team against the Overmind.

Am I the only one who thinks that this might actually make for a decent movie?

Nope, it certainly has more of a plot than the first one.... and one that's not that far off from FF#57-60.

Yeah, this bust does not make me happy.
Though I like the design otherwise.

Doom is not Freddy Krueger.
Marvel's run by greedy idiots. My opinion.

Sounds a bit like what they did in Heroes Reborn.

I think Doom in this case was not like Magneto was for the X-Men films where they had to bring him back for the other movies, he was so part of the greatness of what those first two movies were. Mainly because the first FF movie was less than memorable, especially Doom. I would rather Doom vanish for some time than be in this film. And when he returns down the line, it's revealed that it's a Doombot doppleganger(like in the comics) that fought the FF in the first flick. So instead of being just a businessman and typcial Magneto-like rip-off with super-powers, the real Doom would have been this crazy guy hidding in a secret lair somewhere in Latveria. While all the things related to Doom in the first flick like the skin shedding, revealing silver and the character transmeting electrical energy could be attributed to a super-robot. Doom in his castle has so much unreal super-weapons that a jacked up Doombot would not be surprising. How about all those similar boxes that were on the ship that transported "Doom" back to Latveria? There were hundreds of them. I presume those could be all Doombots that were used at one time or another in America. I think their could be clues leading to that before Doom's return. Like realising that people with the same characteristics and looks of Julian McMahon would have been spotted at various times at various places. They could push this back further by saying that the man that went to school with Reed Richards may not have been Victor Von Doom because there would be evidences of the same being having been in the 1930s. That way they could recreat Doom as this mythic sinister character that influenced a lot of people and had his hands in a lot of what happened in the last centhury. Making him more formidable. Paving the way for another actor playing the "real" Doom. Somebody definitly more intimidating.
