Even since I brought the wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 console, I've had minimal problem with connecting to Xbox Live, but the recent flurry of problems really puzzled me. A couple of nights ago, I started up my console but noticed that it couldn't connect with our wireless network (we have cable modem and wireless router), and after checking our PC, I discovered that it is also offlined. So I reset the router and both PC and my 360 could connect to the network (our PC is connected through the ethernet cable, not with wireless adapter).

Anyway, last night I turned up my console, and found out that it couldn't connect to Live again. But our PC could log on to the Internet. I reset the router anyway (which is one of the things suggested by the Xbox 360 help tips). Well, even after the router is reset, I still could not get the console to connect. I could detect the network when I activated the 'scan for network' feature, but when I tried to connect to that network, it failed over and over.

Just wondering if you guys have encounted this kind of problem before, and if there is anything else I can try. Thanks.

Every once in a while your router and cable modem need to be reset, so that would explain the first issue you encountered and got it to work.

As for this time, were you doing anything with your router settings lately? Did you maybe turn on the encryption feature of your wireless network? That could cause you to have access on your PC via the ethernet cable but prevent a wireless connextion. If so, you'd have to input one of the encryption keys into the wireless setup for the X-Box in order for it to be granted permission to access the wireless network.

After I reset the router a couple of days ago, I didn't do anything with the setting, so that's why I'm baffled why it happened again. And I have turned off the security as a test to see if my Xbox can connect to the network (it can detect it just fine), but it still doesn't work. :csad:

Right now I'm thinking about resetting the router one more time, to see if it will work. Or use the ethernet cable (because the router isn't that far away). I just like it with wireless more because sometimes I'll move the console to the living room for extra space when friends come to visit to play.

Yea, mine does this periodically also. It usually involves me resetting my router due to what Hulk said. Sometimes it just needs the reset.

It's irritating, but an easy fix.

It could also be an issue with your router's wireless signal. Is it an older router? Are you able to connect any other types of wireless devices like a laptop to it? That would probably be my next step. If you can connect to your wireless network via another wireless device,, you know your router isnt the problem

Since the X360 is finding the Network it leads me to believe that your X-Box Live wireless is working correctly on that end but it could still be a source issue with your router.

I had 2 Netgear routers crap out on me. They just kept losing the signal.

I'll do some tests with my other PC that uses wireless network, but the router is quite new and I brought it late last year. I just think it is strange how the adapter can detect the network but cannot connect to it.

I dont think this problem is the same as the ones stated above, but my sisters console cant stay connected. It'll connect at first then lose connection in about 15 min. The funny thing is, my console has no problems connecting and staying connected. We are using a Motorola wireless cable modem.

do you have any things that would interfere with the signal near your router or xbox? such as a microwave, radio, etc... or do you have fluorescent lighting? It's most likely just EMI dropping your signal

If that is referring to my question, the answer is no. We called the cable co. and they said u just cant gave 2 360s running off the same network(which i think is BS cuz we've done it before).

that doesnt make any sense at all. I work for a cable company and know it's BS. As long as you have a proper router you should be able to connect to the network with as many nodes as your router allows Now if you have too many things going it may slow your speed but your connection shouldn't just drop like that.
