I would hope this isn't right, but as far as anyone can see, PS3 is getting a $40 price increase in Canada. Doesn't bode well for our neighbors up north, if this is true. :( :down

Conflicting info as far as I can see. Best Buy, The Source, and FutureShop all list their prices at $700, but multiple other stores list the console at it's original launch price. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but it's definitely confusing me.

It's true.

Score another for Sony.

FYI exchange rate is more or less the reason. Apparently.

I was all set to buy one to, what with the fixed BC and the big firmware update coming in the European launch in march.

Would you honestly beleive something called Xbox360Fanboy.com?

The rumor about an increase is true, though it isn't Sony's fault. So yes, they were correct in a way but Sony didn't jack it up, just a few retailers. GameSpot cleared it up with a Sony official though, so it's not like it matters anyways.

Apparently EB Games or GameStop hasn't changed their price. So if you live near one, hope is still there for you, yet.

Thanks, FYI I know we aregue about everything all the time but you're actually ok by me. :o

I'm a nicer person outside of arguments. :)

That being said, I just sometimes let my dislike for certain things make up my mind about someone prematurely. I figure it's not worth the wasted time/effort to try to fight someone all the time over something totally insignificant anyways. You aren't so bad yourself.

..Anyways, aside from our thread hijacking.. I guess this can serve as a thread to discuss why those few retailers have decided to up the price. I saw a comment that made a good point that Best Buy sometimes ups the price on hardware before they hold a discount sort of affair, so as to make it seem like they dropped the price more than they actually had.

That sounds like my local K-Mart, they jack things up $5 from Walmart, then offer a $3 discount like it's a huge savings, but your still paying more.

All I can really add is I feel for those up north. Hope the price increase doesn't hurt anyones wallets too bad as it was already expensive to begin with.
