Sorry if this has been posted already, I have tried to find it elsewhere.

Question: Does anyone know if it will be explained why Dame Judy and John Cleese will be playing there rolls in a prequal, when it was Desmond and that other guy (name escapes me) that played Q and M?

I obviously know that it has to be Judy and John because the other two have passed away, but as far as continuity goes the characters are aware that they are replacements to the original rolls (John and Des are together in one of the movies) being newbies from Golden Eye and The World is Not Enough. In GE someone clearly states "I hear the new M is a woman" new being key word here.

John Cleese isn't going to be in it. As for Judi Dench, I think they're just going to have her being M from the start without explaining her promotion or her predecessors.

CASINO ROYALE is not a prequel, it's a reboot. There's a difference. This isn't the same continuity as the previous films - Judi Dench is playing a different M than she did before (this M not only has a different personality to the M Dench has played before, but a different history as well - she's been around during the Cold War).

Dench was great in Brosnan Bond movies since cR is reboot or whatever it is they should've cast someone else.

I still see no reason to keep her. It's not such a radical thing since multiple actors have portrayed M.

It'll definitely confuse audiences, who assume CR will be just like every other Bond but a wee bit different.

1. Your attempt at a joke wouldve made sense if you used ;azenby, conners first 007 replacement.

Roger Moore also replaced Sean Connery, my friend. I could've done it for Dalton aswell. It doesn't really matter who replaced who, it still works.

They were trying as hard as they could to distance Moore from Connery, continuation or not.

That being said there's only one continuation OO7 film (FRwL) and even that is only a passing reference.

Yeah but if its a reboot, why keep her playing the same role? It would be like having pat hingle from B89 play gordon in BB. I just don't understand why they didn't recast M. And oscar wins don't mean jack to me - look at marisa tomei.
