I accidently made a duplicate thread, and seeing how I can't find it, I assume the mods deleted it. Anyway, I was wondering if its possible to turn a desktop machine into a graphics card by installing Linux. Anyone?

I answered your question!!!!!!

You want to turn the entire machine into a dedicated graphics card using Linux? I don't think that's really possible. You could set up a dedicated rendering box, but not a machine that would function as an actual graphics card you could use with another system.

Im pretty sure you cant do that.
Linux is just an OS, like OS X or XP.

I didn't even know you could use the net with linux...

Linux provides functionality to old machines. My classmate turned an old Macintosh Centris into a firewall/router. Since a graphics card is basically a computer that calculates graphics coordinates I was wondering if anybody ever programmed a computer into an external graphic card. It would be nice if you were to get it to run and had a decent graphic card installed on your pc, you could just divide the processes between the card and the external pc.

why not? Does it have something to do with the limits of the machine or the bandwidth? What if I had a 3.4 gig dual core as a dedicated graphics card? It really just seems like a simple manner of routing the processes.

Because graphics cards are designed a very particular way to do what they do. If you figure out how to do it, you better patent it and market it because you'll be the only person on the planet who knows how.
