My problem with Joker being held up so high is that I don't think it's the best film about mental health issues, don't think it's as good (and certainly not as original) as the films it's drawing inspiration from, don't think it's the best film to feature The Joker or the best depiction of The Joker.

That said I still think it's a really beautifully shot movie with a great performance at the center that pushed the boundaries for the genre. I'm fine just leaving it at that and letting history decide the rest.

Yup, I'm in the same boat. When I left the theater, I loved the movie and still do for what it is, but I don't think it's a masterpiece and I do feel some of that has to do with how derivative it is of other films. Phoenix did an amazing job of course, and i do think he deserved the oscar, but I don't really have an urge to rewatch the movie much. I still consider it sort of like a "TKJ" in film form though, even though it's really not much like that book and it's also why I don't think a sequel is necessary. But when you look at the money it made, it's inevitable really.

Ledger is easily still the best live action Joker in my opinion. I think Phoenix is #2 or 3 for me.

Just my personal preference. I know B&R is not a good Batman film, but I absolutely love watching it because it’s so ridiculously fun and funny.

Returns is a weird movie. It's technically better than 89, visually gorgeous and catchy, but at the same time so ridiculous and stupid lol. I guess that's the charm.
